He was considered as a replacement for Roger Moore, but deemed too young. Interestingly enough Timothy Dalton was a possible Connery replacement but also deemed too young at the time. Finally Roger Moore was considered to play James Bond for Dr. No, however he was busy with his television commitment.

There is a saying that each Bond actor gives his best performance in his 3rd film, so that wouldn't be surprising.
It was an added final season to Remington Steele that resulted in Timothy Dalton starring in The Living Daylights instead of Pierce Brosnan.
@@tank3143 The audience asked for one last season of Remington Steele. It was a massive mail in petition for one more season. That wasn’t the entire point. NBC also offered to help Brosnan travel between NBC and MGM filming locations to take care of filming if MGM was willing to work on the schedule. It would be a tight schedule. MGM said no.
Agreed ! Pierce Brosnan was the BEST Bond ever ! I like them all, but this guy was number one.

The Bond film starring Denise Richards as a scientist would also wind up laying the groundwork for all the best aspects of Craig's era (same writers). Ironic.
Yea, it's one of the better films of the 90s. In fact, this one is always in the TOP 3 list when I rank the 90s Bond movies.

golden eye isn't just an all time classic movie with Pierce Brosnan as 007 but also an all time classic movie game based on that film but the world is not enough was on another level.

Convention Detention it’s been better received in recent years but back in 1989 it did poorly at the box office due to its poor market campaign and went against hits like Batman Indiana Jones 3 and Lethal Weapon 2. The serious dark tone of Timothy Dalton was ahead of its time and fans were not ready then after being used to Roger Moore’s light hearted approach and style as Bond in 7 films over 12 years.
GoldenEye is underated amazing film.

You are aware that literally everyone in every generation always says the world's gone to s**t and was best whenever they happened to be young, right? Yeah, there's a viral pandemic, that happens every once in a while. Look up the 1918 novel flu pandemic - it was WAY worse. People were dropping dead within hours of catching the thing after it had gone around the world and mutated badly due to the awful unhealthy living conditions during WW1. Our grandparents had 6 years of a horrific world war which even included the detonation of two nuclear weapons on civilian targets, the evil fire-bombing of residential Dresden and the mass torture and slaughter of 6 MILLION Jewish people. They had over a decade of rationing and awfulness, conscription and so on - so by comparison what we have to deal with here is nothing at all.
Yes, there are corrupt politicians... welcome to the human world. That's literally always been the case and in fact most of history was far worse. Yes, "kids these days" are different because we've made a very different technological world for them to grow up up. That's literally always been the case too. Parents once all thought rock and roll and young people wearing colourful and comfortable clothes was the devil's work. Incidentally, The World is Not Enough was a terrible POS movie (though granted, Spectre is way worse for other reasons).

This film is probably my favorite of the Brosnan era. The context around the "I never miss" line is one of Brosnan's best moments in the franchise.

Most stylish bond of all time
Roger Moore still is my favorite bond, as I grew up watching his movies. HOWEVER, Pierce Brosnan is the best one in my eyes. He has the class, the wit and does delivery the action.
One of the best. Rounded, fascinating characters, excellent music, moody cinematography, intriguing story and thrilling action sequences. Top 10 Bond film, and the best Bond film of the last 20 years.

@@eddiejoewalt7746 Every Bond girl since the 90s is marketed as such. Take it with a grain of salt. What happened with Richards in TWINE, in her secondary Bond girl role, is she ends up having a bit of sass, she’s a bit of fun and a good point of difference to the elegant Elektra - which Bond himself registers. He treats her much differently to how he interacts with Elektra. He’s much more cynical with her and helps show a different side to Bond in the same film where he’s also more emotionally invested with the lead Bond girl - that dynamic rarely happens in Bond movies.

Love this entry, one of my top 3 Bond films.
Reasons: So many good one liners and action sequences. Both Bond girls have the wow factor - with Sophie Marceau being I'd say, my favourite Bond girl. Robert Carlyle is a great actor and Renard has a good presence as the villain.
Brosnan is terrific, switching from brilliant quip timing, to edgy tough Bond.

I grew up with Connery and Moore who were both great, but I must say Brosnan was fantastic as Bond. He fit the part like a glove. I liked all four of his films, and this one is particularly good. Die Another Day was the weakest and perhaps a sign that his time was up.
Not him. Just the writing and insistence on Halle Berry. She really wasn't the best choice as her acting is not up to spec on the scale needed to be a Bond co-conspirator. Take her character out and the movie goes on with minimal rewrites. Lucy Liu could have played the part better.
Love the trailer, also think its one of the best bond movies ever made. Vic Armstrong's work on the boat chase makes for the best opening of all 24 movies!

First bond movie I ever saw and still is my fav
I remember that it came out at the end of 1999 during the Y2K scare and getting excited by the teaser "as the countdown begins for the 21st century, its good to know theres one number you can count on (007)". As much as I look forward to the Bonds, it was probably the last time I was actually excited and felt like a kid anticipating it.
Same here! I was 38 when this film came out and felt that anticipation as I had for every Bond movie since The Spy Who Loved Me. The three year lag, Halle Barry (whom I don't like as an actress) as the main Bond girl and perhaps advancing age dampened my enthusiasm for Die Another Day, even though Brosnan was great again in that film. I like Daniel Craig and his films have been mostly very good, but this movie marked the end of an era for me.

The crux of the subplot of The World Is Not Enough, personal revenge against M...is the main plot of Skyfall! I laff at people that call Skyfall a better film with a more personal edge than any previous Bond film. Skyfall rips off TWO of Pierce's movies. The villain, Silva, is 006 retread from GOLDENEYE, and as I said, the revenge angle on M is this film. Wonder what SPECTRE will steal from Pierce, who indeed WAS one of the best Bonds ever.

Thank you, Craig is a great Bond, but Brosnan is the Bond I grew up with so I noticed those similarities too and scoffed a bit. Forget that people didn't like his 007 movies, I enjoyed them a lot, GoldenEye and TND my favorite, his acting is always beyond Boffo :)b
+Dizzy247365plus If Skyfall is really just a ripoff of the world is not enough.... well, at least it's a much better version of the world is not enough. It had some good ideas, but for the most part, it kind of sucked. After Goldeneye, none of Brosnan's Bond movies were very good.

Every bond film borrows something from another one. I laugh at you for not knowing that Goldeneye is basically the same plot as moonraker. What matters is which Bond film is actually the better film.

I don't think any other year than 1999 produced better movies..... The Matrix, The Mummy, The world is not enough, American pie etc. What a great year that was for media and cinema!

The World is not enough: my favorite bond's movie. Denisse Richards: the sexiest bond girl ever, despite she actually doesn't have a beautiful face. I was so angry after notice about brosnan's departure because, with all the respect, he's the best bond ever. He has all of the typical bond characteristics and people loved him for that. But I get his time was already over and the directors and producers had to look for his replacement but, when he retired and Daniel Craig was selected, not offense into his fans, James bond died.

Brosnan was at his prime in this film . He looked his best on this film and Sophie was a hot as the bad girl and Denise as the girl one . It had decent action scenes though the scene in the missle silo then Bond gives his signature line it reminds me of a Batman film.
Not gonna lie but I saw him first as Black Adam and then came to know he played Bond. What an excellent actor !

GoldenEye was his only good movie as Bond, but I think Pierce was great in all four. Hell, he's the reason why I can still watch and enjoy Die Another Day, simply because he's such a great Bond, the only one better is Sean Connery. As much as I also like the others, they don't hold a candle to these two.

I agree with you. When you actually think about it, the Daniel Craig films feel more like Bourne than Bond. When Daniel Craig leaves the role I hope the producers decide to go back to fun of the classic Bond formulas. The Kingsman films have proved that a Roger Moore style Bond film still works in the 21st Century so I don't see why the producers can't go back to the fun classic Bond film formula.
