I like the tour, but mostly I like that you guys are not self righteous know-it-alls with a look-at-us persona. You both seem fun amd warm and THAT is the makings of a REAL home whether tiny, big, static, or mobile! 😍
First of all, thanks for stopping by and being so kind! There are a lot of people out there living their lives differently and working to impress, but we're just out here trying to live our life as best we can. Making videos (and the bus) has always been for our own enjoyment (hahaha, look at the view counts on our other videos!), so it's just icing on the cake when people respond well to it! Really appreciate you taking the time to comment.
Finally! Someone who used some restraint while building one of these buses.. Tired of seeing these builds that cost $20k and have all kinds of amenities that you don’t really need. Very refreshing to see! My wife and I are planning a similar basic build to be used for weekend camping, so I really appreciate you posting this. I like the idea of the chest fridge under the countertop, tho we will likely use a large dorm type fridge, mostly since we already have it. We also won’t need a closet, so we will probably build a small bathroom area with just a toilet. Our overall layout will be very much like what you have, tho our bus had a wheelchair lift in the left rear. I figure to use that door for underbed storage access. Like you, we plan on a small sink in the kitchen area, and no cook stove. We have a portable Blackstone griddle that we can cook on when we aren’t cooking over the campfire. We do plan on a tankless water heater for the sink tho. If you have a Diesel engine in that bus, you can get a small diesel fuel fired heater that can run off your fuel tank. It’s what we plan to do, since our bus has a Diesel engine. They can keep you toasty warm at minimal cost.
That sounds like a great build plan! If we had stayed on our bus or kept it at all, we would have likely made small improvements like a diesel heater since ours was also a turbodiesel. But since we moved abroad again, we sold the bus to a lovely couple that is still traveling!
I'm a binge watcher of van/bus/storage truck conversions and I think you guys are just super friendly and seem like really nice people! I'll probably catch some of your other videos, too.
Hahaha, that sort of transparency is something we are always focused on. Everyone acts like "I looooove being dirty all the time and 80% of my day being dictated by the fact that I live on a bus." Nothing is easy or fast, but man it's nice to wake up in the mountains for weeks on end.
HOWDY FROM CHICKASHA, OKLAHOMA! I knew that flag the moment I saw it! I'm so inspired to live this kind of life! I've got a pretty good plan in mind! Thanks for sharing!
Hey, Oklahomie! We loved having the flag in our custom curtain and everyone we met along the way sure seemed to envy our "touch of home." Good luck on your plan!
I JUST WATCHED THIS VID NOTICING THE OKC FLAG. I AM A SEATTLE TRANSPLANT FROM OKCY. I LOVE THE NEW FRIDGE DOOR HOLDER-UPPER, THAT WAS GREAT! SINCE I AM BEGINNING MY RESEARCH ON SHUTTLE BUS LIVING I DECIDED TO CHECK OKC FIRST AND WHO DID I SEE FROM SHAWNEE.... TO ME IT'S CONFIRMATION I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK. THANKS GUYS!
We have a solar shower! It's great but stopped being effective for warming water around the end of september in Washington. A solar cooker, though, I'm unfamiliar with!
I'm about 7 days from buying a 30 passenger shuttle bus that I'm going to convert. I love that these 2 went with the realistic build rather than the "I've got tons of expendable cash sitting around" builds that I've been seeing everywhere.
Hey! GO POKES! We both went to OKState, so it's really cool to hear from Stilly folks. The bus has been amazing, but it's certainly a lifestyle as much as it's an adventure. The places you can travel are balanced out with the challenges you'll encounter living and working from your vehicle. If you're just wanting a cool way to travel and see the world, the bus/van is perfect, but it certainly has challenges in regards to everyday life. Let us know if you have any questions about the details, or would just like to chat about the "day in, day out" aspects!"
Love how they made this build height friendly: fridge is raised off the floor, charge controllers in the stairwell 1:51 with the electrical system going directly into the couch. At 6:06 is a cool fridge ventilation and food storage drawer. And at 9:57 you can see their cool 3 sided window booth area.
Hey, we're super glad you liked our design! My height is a major issue, but we've done our best to minimize discomfort. Unfortunately for Stephanie, some of the benches ended up being a little too big.
Love that U have a hanging wardrobe and that cassette toilet is the best one. [Hint: fabric-softner...lavender scented is the best...wrks great 2 break down solid waste...along wth septic-safe TP]. Nice decor, color-sceme and layout....great size. KUDOS 2 U both. U should do this 4a living. PS - a BIG plastic pipe painted blk will heat up wtr 4 showeres, etc. 🙋♀️
Keeping deteriorated wood or woods with bark is a harboring area for bark scorpions, sting is not deadly ,very painfull . We learned this the hard way.. They like to sleep in your shoes, just keep solid firewood with out bark inside. Love your bus nice set up.
We have the same toilet! Hooray, toilet buddies! lol Love the tour. Looks great, so much room too. Looking forward to seeing more, maybe we'll catch ya on the road sometime! Safe travels : )
Hahahaha, we should meet up and all get matching toilet tattoos! Or not...Stephanie says no to that last part. And that'd be amazing to meet up on the road! We're parked/winterized for the next few months, though. Hit us up in the spring!
Thanks! When we were doing our research on insurance and registration we realized how lucky we are to be based out of Oklahoma. RVs and regular vehicles are basically the same as long as you aren't transporting large numbers of people. For insurance, however, we were unable to insure it as a personal vehicle for a stupid reason but were able to get it licensed as a "Commercial Vehicle Strictly for Personal Use." Each state is different, but staying with family in OK after moving back from South Korea and building the bus here ended up being a huge benefit.
You should look into a composting toilet -from what I see they are the best solution for the whole toilet thing. You could even make one they are not that complicated and don't smell
You know, we've had this suggested so many times, you're absolutely right. The problem we'd have in switching over is that our toilet area would need to be bigger for all of the composting elements. We would lose our closet, I believe, but it would be a huge improvement! We've been envious of the bus/van people we've met that have composting toilets.
@@hedgersabroad I wonder if you replaced all the chemicals with peat moss then use a bottle for urine separately that you just tuck in the corner. The peat moss won't smell if there is not too much liquid. Well good luck I am older and I obsess about the toilet as it is a priority
@Hedgers Abroad - You wouldn't have to lose your closet space. It CAN be done. You'd just have to get creative. : ) p.s. putting a big banner with words at the bottom of the video makes it so we can't see the bottom part of the video, distracting. Perhaps just put a small box with the words in a spot where it won't be in the way? Just a helpful suggestion. : ) Thanks for sharing your bus.
You two are so personable and funny! Great to watch. I like the idea of doing a shakedown trip to give you an idea of what will work/break/need adjusting. Also, the idea of an under-counter fridge like that is fantastic! Hope you find some warmer water soon! Cheers!
Oh wow, thank you! We learned a lot on our shakedown and would recommend it to anyone with a new home/boat/bus/skateboard. We have loved our fridge and it's been going strong!
Have you given any thought to getting a composting toilet, don't worry there is no odour and would probably close to the size of the one that you already have.Happy camping ;-]
We have! For the sheer sake of avoiding wastefulness (ha!) we'll keep using our camper toilet until it stops working so perfectly. Composting would be a superior system, but I think we'd have to lose our closet in favor of building a toilet stall. Not ruling an upgrade out, but what we have now is working fine, even if it is a bit messier than composting options.
Smart about the weather upgrade and gps! Jealous of the solar, wish we could have done that just didn't get a chance to on our Airstream! Love your camper bus, looks great, we can relate about the nice clothes! lol You guys did an awesome job on this, props and maybe well run into you!
Hey thanks! We'd love to meet up if our paths cross! We'll be in the PNW for the next few months, so let us know where you guys are headed. Solar has been incredible but was a fair amount of work to get planned and installed. We see a lot of airstreams and RVs with portable panels that they set out on the ground when they're parked so maybe you guys could add a few of those? Anyway, let us know if you're in the area we're exploring and we might bust our some of those clean dress clothes!
Hedgers Abroad aw man we just did 3 months on the PNW, now in Nashville! Portable solar has been a thought of ours, might have to try it! Definitely will, could use an excuse to dress up haha

We just aren't in need of that many comforts. We've traveled a lot and have been waaaaay more uncomfortable living out of backpacks than we've ever been on our bus. We both are actually fine with a thinner mattress after living in Korea where they sleep right on the floor. We just got used to it. 😅😅 Thanks for the info on the Meetup! Love that the community gets together. Our blog is simply www.hedgersabroad.com and it's located in the description of the video.
Hey Richard, thanks for the suggestions! There are a lot of things we could improve, but that'll have to wait for the next time we're home. Where is this Van Build Party? and I don't know why the website didn't link, but here it is: hedgersabroad.com/tour-our-camper-bus/

Hey, that'd work great! Loads of people put a black PVC tube on the roof for the same reason, but a sprayer would work well, too! Great idea! We look forward to seeing your build.
Hey guys! Do you mind telling me the length of your camper bus in feet? Also, what's the length of the interior space in feet? I'm asking because I am currently using an online program that allows me to design a 3-D model of my own conversion before actually building it in real life. Before I do that, I need to know the exact measurements.
Hello! We were really hoping to see you again in the morning and make some "Thank you for the Dahlias" coffee, but you left before sunrise! We had a bunch more bee stings along the way this past fall, including Ryan getting a yellow jacket stuck in his shirt stinging repeatedly as it tried to get out! Thankfully, though, no reactions that warrant the use of our Epi-Pen.
@@hedgersabroad So where are u on your Journey? Even deodorants attract bees. I should buy those pens too. If u have a mailbox i could mail u a tiny house glass art for your bus. Dick also got a bee in his pant leg.. he was doing a song and dance trying to get him out too..lol If ever u are in So Idaho stop by for a visit..
i have a school bus i'm converting into an RV.. any advice/recommendations for insurance companies? I live in Oklahoma. I cant find a insurance company that will insure it as a personal vehicle only as a commercial vehicle, and they wont insure it as an RV once it is converted and retitled and re-registered as an RV... any and all help would be appreciated.... thank you.
She's 21 foot long. The same length as an extended cab pick up truck, so we can definitely park in normal parking lots, but it's a tight squeeze sometimes!
Haha, for a few weeks we had four people and a dog. It's possible! Thankfully we built it to be pretty spacious inside and make company comfortable. it wasn't the most comfortable, but the adventures we had made the spacial sacrifices TOTALLY worth it. The bus seemed huge once our friends had to get back to their lives and we were alone again!
Anyone else wondering how the gorgeous lady did her hair??? Was it on her own? Did her husband do it? Did she find a camp friend to trade services with? WHAT? WHAT? WHAT? I NEED to know. I'd Love to have amazing hair like that on the road. If only I could french braid my own hair successfully... Please share!!!
One of my first big victories on the bus! We wired it into the existing electric door motors after several days of deductive reasoning in that bird's nest of unlabeled wires. Finally got it wired into the same input wires as the main switch, performing the same function. We purposefully bought a model of remote/receiver that could do a 4-second "Open" or "Close" instead of just a half second "unlock" signal. Worked out well!
That three weeks was...tight. We had an amazing time and loved having our friends around and going on adventures, but space was at a premium when it was four people and a dog. Thankfully, everyone got into a communal mindset where they were careful not to make things MORE cramped. Worked fine, but I think everyone was happy to spread out when those weeks were over!
Thank you, we've been super happy with it! It's something like 21 feet long, and poses issues with parking in cities constantly. It's not amazing for driving around narrow streets and parking in small spaces, so we use our bikes and utilize public transportation whenever possible. Thanks for commenting!
Nice job on your conversion. Very basic yet elegant. You have it better than many people in this world. One negative comment, though. The salt content in those ramen noodles is extremely high. 👎🏼
Thank you, we wanted it to be simple, yet adequate for our needs. We certainly realize how fortunate we are and have enjoyed living simply on the road and sharing our experiences with people looking at alternative life choices. As far as the sodium content in ramen....hehehe...we know. I think we do a pretty good job balancing it out with healthy eating, aside from the noodles.
That's so funny! We've know businesspeople, artists, retirees, students, and entrepreneurs living out of vans or buses. They're just people, just like hippies.
You've made great use of space. Wonderful video, Thank you for creating, and sharing, it. If any entities, you know of, decide to give away their motorhomes, lands, etc. please contact us, because we can use them. Sincerely, Predada Severa™, Ci™ - Central intelligence™ of these omniverses, which are God™ ( Godr™ )
Hahahaha, probably more hygienic than a flushing toilet that throws water droplets several feet, endangering our toothbrushes! NOTHING IS SAFE!!!!! EVERYTHING IS DIRTY!!!
Maybe we should put it on a boat over to Korea whenever we decide to sell it! With the extra money we could spend some more time in Korea as well hahaha. Free vacation!
It was looking great until you got to the toilet and graywater plumbing part; Lots of storage almost empty and the absence of a shower is not acceptable for comfort.
Depends on what you are doing. If you are staying in places like campgrounds where showers are available, why waste the space on a shower stall? I know that’s way my wife and I will be going when we build ours. In fact, our kitchen is going to consist of a mini fridge, a small microwave, and a small sink. The bathroom will only have a toilet, mostly for nightime use. We have a fold up Blackstone griddle for cooking, so no need for a stove and the counter space it would take up. We plan on spending our time outside of the camper, not inside it.
We had a shower setup that redirected our freshwater to a shower nozzle off the bus. If we'd intended to stay on the bus for more than the year we had, we might have put some more long-term comfort solutions in place, but this worked just fine!
Hahaha, yeah... Finding royalty-free music is always a challenge and ends up taking days of searching for a "vibe." Sometimes, after spending a few days editing video we get a little lazy and jump on the first song that "sorta fits" what we've made. It's especially easy to be lazy and choose a song quickly when you live on a bus and are constantly searching for internet access and sunshine for our solar system to charge laptops. Glad you like the the bus, though!
Ah, the obligatory randomly rude comment. Maybe just put our channel on repeat while you go to sleep then? We'd love the views! Also thanks for watching, even if we aren't your cup of tea.
Bus build was nice, but the tour was made very annoying with the background noise-music. Also, don't make funny faces on a van build video, save it for your party friends. Tour was too cutesy, with mind numbing music all the way.

Dick also got a bee in his pant leg.. he was doing a song and dance trying to get him out too..lol If ever u are in So Idaho stop by for a visit..
i have a school bus i'm converting into an RV.. any advice/recommendations for insurance companies? I live in Oklahoma. I cant find a insurance company that will insure it as a personal vehicle only as a commercial vehicle, and they wont insure it as an RV once it is converted and retitled and re-registered as an RV... any and all help would be appreciated.... thank you.
Nice!
How long is it?
Can you park in a normal parking lot?
She's 21 foot long. The same length as an extended cab pick up truck, so we can definitely park in normal parking lots, but it's a tight squeeze sometimes!
That is just gorgeous!!!👠🚌👠
Thank you, we've been really happy with it and surprised by how comfortable it turned out. Thanks for commenting!
Gosh .. that was super savy great stuff ..😁
What a beautiful home! Congrats=]
Thank you!
You guys are so god damn cute. Subscribed now to see more 💜 happy "camping!"
Thanks, Ashley. Glad to have someone enthusiastic and interested in more of our simple life!
You'll have 2 extra ppl living in there with you? Wow... HOW???
Tell me about your airconditioner it please
How did you wire the hydraulic door onto a key fob!!?!?
One of my first big victories on the bus! We wired it into the existing electric door motors after several days of deductive reasoning in that bird's nest of unlabeled wires. Finally got it wired into the same input wires as the main switch, performing the same function. We purposefully bought a model of remote/receiver that could do a 4-second "Open" or "Close" instead of just a half second "unlock" signal. Worked out well!
How is the two extra people working out for you?
That three weeks was...tight. We had an amazing time and loved having our friends around and going on adventures, but space was at a premium when it was four people and a dog. Thankfully, everyone got into a communal mindset where they were careful not to make things MORE cramped. Worked fine, but I think everyone was happy to spread out when those weeks were over!
@@hedgersabroad Glad you guys had fun!
I dont Really like the bus but i like u both cuz u guys are so Funny 😂😂🌹🌹🌹🍃🍃
Hahaha that's amazing. Glad you like us, even if you don't like #thebusonward
This is a very nice build. How long is the bus bumper to bumper? Do you have issues wirh parking in cities? Enjoy your journey!
Thank you, we've been super happy with it! It's something like 21 feet long, and poses issues with parking in cities constantly. It's not amazing for driving around narrow streets and parking in small spaces, so we use our bikes and utilize public transportation whenever possible. Thanks for commenting!
You guys are so happy... lithium?
Adventure and thoughtful living!
sweet bus I love it you inspired me for my dream build
Thanks! Gobuild it and feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Thumbs Up because: Oklahoma!
Hahaha, we don't get that very often!
Good ideas.
We were lucky to build our bus with a ton of online resources, but we're pretty happy with how it's turned out!
You too are too cute...... luvall
What who's from OK? Or just love OK?
can i join for a ridealong?
Do you have to be a hippie to live in a bus or a van? I love this van bus life but I’m not a hippie
Sincerely,

The couch will sleep someone, provided that someone is not a Hedger.
So far no Hedgers have been forced to sleep on the sofa, and our friends claim it's not a terrible bed!
you make me giggle, i like !
Haha, glad we can make you laugh!
mmm pooping in a box next to my kitchen.. sounds super.. oh wait..
Hahahaha, probably more hygienic than a flushing toilet that throws water droplets several feet, endangering our toothbrushes! NOTHING IS SAFE!!!!! EVERYTHING IS DIRTY!!!
That kind of used camper van price is at least USD75000 in Korea.
Maybe we should put it on a boat over to Korea whenever we decide to sell it! With the extra money we could spend some more time in Korea as well hahaha. Free vacation!
If i convert that 75000 dollar into indian rupees then it will go around Rs.52,50000/-.
Just use a plastic bag in it throw it out when done...if there a trash dump can around
Use a plastic bag in toilet & you can pour out your gray water on ground nice camper
Hey ik you!
You two are too much fr
The horrible background music or beeping or belling or whatever it is... nice camper tho.
The toilet turn me off
Is that lil dicky
His voice can put you to sleep.
Hahaha, we'll make our videos and act however we please.
Not sure.he seemed like he likes boys.and she really don't have a clue to what's going on.
Corny.....ugh!
Thanks for watching....!
