  • Charming maker couple, Carmen and Xaver, are converting a shuttle bus into their “haven home,” named Vinny. It’s a 2001 Ford E-450. The style is a blend of modern and vintage, with luxurious custom features like a DIY repurposed crystal chandelier, Bauhaus-inspired copper couch/bed, curly maple bookshelves, and literal throne room. It is very much a low-tech tiny home with simple plumbing-perfect for off-grid living. Carmen, aka the Tiny House Foodie, made sure to include ample room to cook and host, too.

First of a home is not for your friends to be hanging out in. You owning a house is only for the purpose of the people that live there. When you cook, eat, sleep, dress, crap, pee, watch tv is only for you and your family, the ones that live there with you. Having friends there will only give them the opportunity of stealing from you & criticizing you from all your dreams. The shuttle bus house is a great idea and a great idea to not have a problem with spending so much money on rent or mortgage. God bless you & stay safe.

Love the size of the bus. Floor beautifully done. Too many dang windows for my taste to let the AC out. Old lady with hot flashes, a good air unit is a big deal here in this hot as hell weather we've got in the summer. > . < I would take out all the windows but one on each side and add in floor to ceiling cabinets as much as I could get in, as deep as I could get them, with pull out organizers. For counter space just a bit of wood that pulls out, sort-of like a draw out table would be fine. Don't need a table if you've got a bed and a drivers chair to sit on. Instead I would want a washer / dryer combo, a fridge that's large for a bus conversion with freezer, and small drawer dishwasher is what I'm going for. Forget the couches! I would've gotten the best, most comfortable king or queen size bed I can get. Some nice cousins around the edge of the bed and a place to plug in a laptop and oh yeah.. Add in a 55" TV nearby the bed.. Yeah baby! Add in shower, toilet, a deep sink you can lean over to wash hair with a spray nozzle, really amazing AC unit, solar panels and yep.. my dream RV. I'd probably go with The Big Kahuna portable shower too. The 13 gallon one and just boil water or use a heating pad to warm it. All the extra space from not putting in the extra seating, I would put in larger water tanks! I don't want to stand over a sink doing dishes for 20 minutes after cooking a good meal. I wanna go and explore! If I'm in an RV I'm there to have fun, not work! lol Less work for me the better! Do laundry by hand? No. Deal with funky laundry mats where I would need to run bleach though a machine before I felt comfortable using it? No. (People can be gross, no idea what's been in that machine before you got there). Wash dishes by hand? Hell no! lol Love to cook. Clean for hours? Um, not so much. Prob going to make small area for kitty's litter box and a built - in pet carrier if I ever need to lock her up for any reason. I'll probably hide my gun safe too. Out of site out of mind.

What a fun couple and a beautiful home! They did say that they were still working on it, so it makes sense that there are still needs that haven't been met. I read a snippet of the book and it was very interesting. Her back story is quite unexpected. Since I want to help keep Barnes and Noble in business, I'll buy it the next time I'm there instead of on the internet. I'm dying to see how you can make interesting meals without too much electricity in such a limited space.

i might be coming in in the middle of this. First of all, I love it. It is spare but so colorful and rich. I'm not sure waht stage you are -- did you insulate floors and walls/roof, or do you have to do that in shuttle bus? How are you going to cover the windows along the sides of the bus. One reason I like the bus option is that there are all those windows but I don't reall want to cover them except with curtains with maybe an extra layer for insulation? I just realized this video was done in 2018. Are y'all still out there? Would love to see it now. Thanks.

Love your transformation. If I were you, I would find a way to become momentarily rich in order to buy a free standing copper soaking tub.

I absolutely love your kitchen cabinet! That is exactly what I would like to do to save money. How do you secure it?

They mentioned how they left the original seat brackets in the floor & that's how they secure everything. They fixed brackets onto the bottoms of the items they put in there & fixed that to the original brackets.

I love this build, and I adore these people, but I'm shook over the white couches in a tiny house. You'd think they'd get so much use as dinning/living/bedroom that keeping them white would be a nightmare. They're beautiful though!

I read you will be using a composting toilet. When I traveled with my family in a trailer RV, we had a flush toilet that recirculated fresh water like the ones they use in airplanes. I believe it was a Monomatic. Just an idea. And where is the shower? No hot water? Bookshelves need retention strips or tie-downs. Fresh water? Grey water? Will you be installing indoor plumbing? A follow-up of the finished project would be welcome.

Wish these videos on Shuttle conversions ever mentioned the drive train just a bit. gas vs diesel, fuel mileage, towing power etc.
