Dude I just had this done on my truck and had seen the 8020 casting number on the cover which I had never seen before. Made me think they put a cheapy on the low…until I saw your video! This is the best install video I’ve ever seen but I might add don’t forget to run Dex-Cool (Orange stuff) in any Duramax or else you will erode that brand new cover. The properties in the coolant keep it from doing that.
diagnosing a fluid leak is easy... wash n dry suspected area an spray athletes foot powder over suspect area then run it .... first drop will show like a stoplight
Thanks for your support! I used to always pronounce it as you described but was corrected many times lol. Truth is I have no clue which way is correct I just know I have several tools by them and they all seem to work well.
@@TCMOutdoors Haha, yes me too.. I'm gonna go watch Dr. No, the first James Bond. And I'm a little drunk cuz the GF is at her parents. Take care, my man! Cheerio!
@@TCMOutdoors Did you tig weld it? I don't believe distributors do this anymore because the shafts break. Edit to say that the impeller is the part that fails/slips. Once upon a time the impeller used to be metal and could be welded too. Now they're composite.
@@TCMOutdoors Sorry to break the news to you man, but, I verified this...Merchant stopped selling these like 3 or 4 months ago because of the high failure rates. It's the exact same response I've gotten from everyone else. Try to order one now, I bet you can't. Great "how to" none the less. Thanks for sharing.
the ones I installed on the new pump housing? If so they were the original bolts I saved from the previous time in there. The ones I removed in this video were from when the old housing was stripped and I had to drill and tap a larger bolt into the old housing. I hope this answers you question.
You say you do not have a oil can ??? i have about 6 of them for different types of lube, yes RTV means Room Temperature Vulcanizing , just so you know... it can get into you oil system and plug it up... but if you use the sealer called Three Bond 1184A100G/BC-US Gasket sealer it will not flake off and get stuck in the oil system it will break into super small pieces and get caught in the oil filter, unlike RTV which will stay together and block the oil system and have a blockage,,, this happen on my motorcycle engine the lifters were getting no oil someone use way to much RTV and it blocked off the oil not good...
Best Duramax water pump install on You Tube! Thanks!

Best video out there man. Thanks.
I appreciate that!
Have you heard of any issues with welded units debating if I should just go oe.
the merchant automotive water pump is a huge upgrade over oe kinda a one and done type deal. the oe units come apart thus the reason for the welding

Merchant Automotive is the only company that tig welds these pumps. This exact pump is still available and does not have a composite impeller.
Interesting. Merchant, Danville, Dmaxstore all said the same thing. I’m really surprised you got one from Merchant.

I trying to put the thermostat pipe back in the housing and I’m having trouble getting the o ring back in. Any tips?
lube it up. It's a real pain
where did you get the bolts for the bypass tube?

I'm 14 its 130 and I'm watching this so I will have something to drive
Awesome! Let me know if you have any questions. I'll reply as I see.
Where did you order the kit from?
Merchant automotive but it's my understanding they no longer carry the welded water pump but by all means feel free to check there
Like #1!
