    I've been experimenting with a similar concept on FWD cars. while trailbraking, I give it a little throttle to cancel out the braking force on the front wheels, allowing the front wheels to fully focus on turning the car rather than slowing it down. the rear wheels will still be braking, so the weight balance will be towards the front like in normal trailbraking. if the trailbraking is too strong, I get a little oversteer which could be useful sometimes. this is useful in both long and tight corners like the handbrake method, but with more control over brake force.
    a work-in-progress theory that I'm not sure how to test is that if my front wheels are accelerating while doing this, it may actually be helping rotate the car in that direction.
    all of this was inspired by that stupid video of a yellow civic parallel parking by doing a burnout and handbrake pulled

    • @brokenhalo22
      @brokenhalo22 2 года назад +3

      I don't think this is a bug, per se. I think what it's doing is "smoothing" the rotation of the steering wheel, because irl you can't flick a steering wheel hard left or hard right instantaneously like you can with an analog stick. Still annoying, and definitely feels wrong when you're trying to get around a tight turn, but I see what they were going for. Hopefully they add an option to adjust the input speed so that it at least "smooths" as fast as a racing wheel can be spun.

    After a long straight with an up coming hairpin, you’ll need the entire braking zone if using abs. Those rapid fluctuations of braking force to keep from locking up are costing you deceleration rate.
    I’ll brake a little later and use a few taps of handbrake for fine adjustment between abs weak or default and abs off.

    I've been trailbraking on all of my FF and AWD cars in turns that use 1st or 2nd, some MR cars can make it work, but it needs some finesse. I'm on PS5 so I go up until I hit the force feedback and modulate the throttle as needed, on PS4 it'll be up to 20% brake. I've tried the handbrake method, and couldn't get it consistent lap after lap, but the trailbraking method clicked for me. The steering (and the body roll linked to steering input) issue definitely needs fixing. So that and also when I turn off assists, and I don't turn the wheel driving around a corner, that steering input shouldn't budge and I should hit that wall at speed, but nope, not in GT7. So many races FUBAR due to the steering making minor adjustments on controller mid corner, might help others, but it needs work.

    I have been using the handbrake for similar purpose (with less effect cuz I'm not Top Tier) and it does feel a lot easier to turn but it really depends on the level of the car. For example this circuit experience on Deep Forest sector 2 it is soooooo difficult not to spin out using steering wheel - but once you try with controller you have much easier time through these corners. Or there is always some kind of assist in the background which we dont know about.

      I'm on controller as well, but I'd highly recommend learning to drive with TCS at 0. Handbraking shouldn't change with TCS since you're off throttle while doing it, but the only way to be sure is testing it.

  • @OrangeSunshine15

    Imo, handbrake will not lead to consistent lap times & it's not available on gr4 cars & above in daily races. Keeping brake balance at the rear will force more rotation & help you turn better. Also if you're using handbrake, keeping the sensitivity to 66 will be helpful. ✌️

    • @Harmonic14

      Every top controller player uses the handbrake whenever it's allowed. It's faster and easily consistent with minimal practice. It has since been removed from Sport mode since this video was released

    You can steer with motion controls. I’ve been saying this is a superior form of input to the analog sticks for a while already. Heck, people play hardcore sims on PC with motion controls on the DS4 for the same reason (but games like ACC are a lot worse with controllers, GT7 is relatively good).

  • @monkeybase01

    I've noticed the controller's max steering angle depends on the speed the car is driving. At 90km/h (60Mph) I don't get to full steering lock anymore, at 75km/h (45-50Mph) I do. Also the angle speed is a lot slower on controller because of the 'filtering' (which I believe to be nothing more than steering aids when I compare to ACC on the controller).
    I've seen VQS_Haku use his handbrake too in short taps on the hairpin at Suzuka while watching his world record attempts on Sport.
    Great video, thanks!

    Just like in previous GT games, the max steering angle allowed on analog stick is somewhat a function of grip, and car speed. Which is why you just flick the stick if you get your speed right in most corners. Very intuitive but can be restrictive in hairpins.
    This trick probably bypasses that so you get more angles before the handbrake kicks in. I still would not recommend doing this.
    If possible please test the motion control config, and see if the steering angle is also limited by this function. Back during GTSport days I have seen people setting record laps with it. Takes training but surprisingly neat.

    Did this get fixed, I play on controller and I haven’t ever experienced being forced to slow down on turns. Are you sure your car isn’t just too low, which in turn makes your wheels not have the full turning radius do to them rubbing the wheel well during tight turns.

    • @Harmonic14
      @Harmonic14  2 года назад

      I discuss ride height causing this issue in multiple videos, and that's not what's happening here... This didn't happen with the same setup on a wheel. As shown in the video, I even had the issue on a car that has a setup you cannot change, so it doesn't matter if bottoming out causes it or not.
      The max sensitivity for controllers was increased in update 1.13, and it improved this issue a lot, but it still exists to a degree, and the wheel is still faster in tight corners.
