BMW 535d 2005: won't start. Transmission Fault

- My bmw 535d has a fault which seems to happen only when the engine is cold. Every morning and evening after work. Sometimes however it does not happen and starts first time. Seems to be linked to the yellow engine light on the dash. Any ideas? ECU issue or something else?
What u need to change is the blue relay inside the Ecu box, as it’s faulty and not powering up ECU, I just cleaned mine with sandpaper put back together job done, took a while to find this out though !

The DDE uses various statuses to determine whether the engine start can be enabled. These statuses may be, for example:
EWS enabled,
Brake operated,
Clutch operated,
Preheating active.
Engine start is inhibited if a fault is detected.
Did someone manage to solve this problem?
I've got a 2008 750li and had this problem. Sometimes the car wouldn't even turn over, just nothing, and sometimes I'd get this fucking message which really pissed me off to no end. However, the good news after I did some research on this is I changed the ISM on the car. That is an integrated service module, which is roughly a hundred dollar part that sits right under the hood on the passenger side of the vehicle. It is about this size of a pack of cigarettes, maybe two packs together to make a rectangle. Knock on wood, haven't had one issue since! Very thankful about this because at first I was thinking I would need a new tranny, and I was off warranty for about a year. I was literally sick to my stomach, as the cost of that is off the charts.

Yes, That was the exact issue. I replaced that blue DDE relay (took me 30 minutes as not a genious with anything manual!) and for the last month had no issues at all. Such a small thing and such a big problem!

@@Sarper777 For me it was just a IBS cable, disconnect it from the battery -- side (blue connection )and all good

Yes i got the same issue but it started doing it 2 times in a week then stated doing it multiple times then 4 times and at the same day it started shutting off the engine and then it wont start at all !?!?!!?
Erm, Lee? I'm a BMW engineer and somehow the computers gone to transport mode, (setting for when being delivered to a dealership mode) take It to BMW to get It reset.

GoMonstor check the connection from the cable that comes from the battery to the engine, it should be near to where you put the positive of the jumper cable. It might be loose.
Money pits these old 535d's especially pre lci models.

Hope someone can help me to :P i have a bmw e60 520d 2009 model. In the summer the car start fine no warning lights nothing, but as soon as it gets cold the next day when trying to start the car same warning lights pop like you have, also handbreak, abs warning lights, it says the journey is not possible to continue. the steering wheel is hard to turn. basically the car goes nuts, windshield wippers start going of by them self. the bmw service dep. says nothing is wrong with it. and yet my brother he has the same car as me ONLY its a 2006 model and its a gear shifter ( mine is auto). and his car start perfectly fine in cold weather.
my 520d just stopped and didn't want to start.

The computer scan displays; Glow Plugs 1 to 6 NOT PRESSENT, Crankshaft Sensor NOT PRESENT.

I have exactly the same problem with mine, and ive paid several thousand to try to fix it without any luck. Would appreciate if u told me, if u found out what it was? :)
Problem was the dde relay. Little light blue relay in the electrical box under the bonnet on the passenger side. Part is less than £20 and easy to fit in less than 20 minutes. Google light blue dde relay BMW and check on RUclips too for fitting instructions.

if you have any more transmission issues forget bmw and go straight to your nearest ZF service centre.
If the DDE relay (blue) is good, then the dde control unit may be bad.

I had the same problem.I fix mine by replacing the TCM locate on the mechatronic/valve body it's the black plastic unit .Input and output and trans temp sensor is on this unit and a small cumputer also the gear selector .100%

Disconnect ibs cable, blue connection on the battery negative side. Had the same problem over a year ago and everything is still good. I can get the problem back when i connect the ibs blue connector again.
So yes this always happen to us when my dad's drives and the car turns off while he driving and he waits 4min and then starts the car

Just have it ticking over for about 10 mins, and the car should show a selected gear mode and you should be able to drive it

Yes, that is a temporary fix to start the car once. But it is annoying to do that every time you wanna start it. What could be a permanent fix? The blue relay everybody is talking about in the comments?!?
problem is with voltage regulator what you can change in 5min,I had the same problem in my bmw530d e60 2004r after change all controls light just gone and never come back 2years so far:)) good luck to all...

I find out exactly what is it and how change it as soon as I can, becouse Im not mecanic:) it looks like small electrical cartrige and the guy change me this in maybe 20min after that I never had any silly faults like" transmission fault and reduce your speed" wrrr I hope I will help:)
Artur thanks for your response. I changed the sky blue relay but that did not help me at all.
I scanned the vehicle and I got 2A94 fault Crankshaft sensor.
Had it replaced and all the messages/problems are gone!

It looks like crankshaft sensor may be broken but is easy to change so I would check it first pal..
