2002 Bmw E46 Cluster/electrical problem

- Need help with diagnosing this problem. Cannot plug up to scan codes, gauge freezes, car computer rests it's self, cannot see fog & head light icons. No trip, mph, mpg or time keeping.

I finally DC battery for couple hours. Connected and since v then it's been all good! Back to normal.

Holly shit, should have watched the whole video before commenting. Definitely something different than I thought.
did you disconnect your battery? when you do that, you have to re calibrate everything. turn the car ona nd turn the wheel all the way to lock position to the right, then all the way to lock position to the left. all the lights should reset and turn off, and you should have full function again

Question... what did you do after open and close the connector on the left side for the diagnostics port ? why suddenly the cluster started working ?

@@Le-professeur I ended buying a used cluster... But be careful it must be the exact part number .. it is still working fine.. and my car went back a few thousands miles. Good luck.

Check your instrument cluster fuses, my fuses looked fine but after replacing it worked again
Hi, I used to have the same issue because when I travel out of state I always disconet the battery. You just have to disconet it and put it back in order to reset it
What is the order?

Blown fuse at #43 or your car had been through a major rain storm. Roll down your windows on a sunny day and let it dry on the inside of your instrument cluster. I have no idea of why and how this happens on these e46s, but it does.
Same thing on my e46 , but my fuse did not blow. Heavy rain and cluster stopped working.after a few days of sunshine it went back to norna
THANK YOU SO MUCH - I DID AS SUGGESTED - BOUGHT NEW FUSE PLUGS AND RESET / UNPLUGGED CONNECTOR AT DRIVER'S DOOR - PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

i have an E39 2003 and habe the same problem! i see nothing on my cluster. do i fixt it? Disconnected the battery?

Unplug the battery for a little while. That worked for me.
I've not long upgraded my LED's to blue then when I reconnected the cables the same happened, I just drove it a couple of miles and the car must of reset it self all now fine, not sure if will help

The Correct answer is that there is a solid brown wire where the rear lights are unplug the connector. You will find that the brown wire has melted. Cut brown wire connect it to ground on the light cover. The other possibility is that the licence plate lamps are burned out check that first 2.50 for two new lights at Auto Zone.

dude, i have the same prob with you, when i instaled the battery again and drive until the gauge on the engine heat reach the midle, the battery light comes again and then my instrument cluster is totally dead, but i still can start the engine without any light come on the cluster, but i was freakin out driving without any lights on cluster. please help me :(

Dude, I have the problem that my instrument cluster is going crazy, it first happened 2 months ago with a light indicator on right headlight, but my headlight still good but sometimes it's blinking, then a month later my cluster going worse, when the gauge engine at the middle (engine running for a while) my cluster start showing the gearbox light, but I feel that my shifting is good, and at the clock instruments going so messy. and now when I run the car and engine is on that temperature, my cluster show battery indicator and finally, my cluster is dead.
And then i watch so much video that most of them suggest to DC the battery and I done it, when I instal the battery again everything is normal until I drive the car and the gauge on the engine heat reach the middle, the battery light comes again and then my instrument cluster is totally dead, but I still can start the engine without any light come on the cluster,
I've check battery voltage when engine not running and it's 13V and when the engine running it's 14V and it doesn't drop even I turn on the headlight, music, and AC (can't do cold blow)
My car still can do a crank and start but I was so scared driving without any lights on the cluster. Anyone, please help me :(
BMW E46 318i 2003 with N42 engine
I had a problem where my battery light would flicker on and off and all my electronics would go haywire
And the rpm gauge would be delayed or wouldn’t work at all
Turned out I forgot to connect my ground wire to the car when I did my headers I have an e46 and my ground wire was located on the passenger side motor mount You’ll see it. It’s connected with the block and the frame of the car
@@americosanabria964 mine is e46 too, where is your battery located? On the back trunk or on the enginr bay? Dude i will upload a videos that showing all my errors, would you see it, and hopefuly my error is same as yours and i can use yout suggestion. Thank you for reply 🙏
yokanan pamungkas I have the battery in the trunk, but I would look at all your fuses to make sure they’re all good, and if they are look for your ground connections. Anything that’s bolted from the Motor to the frame of the vehicle
@@americosanabria964 thank you so much, i will check all my ground wire on the engine bay, but i don't know i have a problem with my wires inside the interior of the car, will it affect on the problem i have?

i have the same problem and I can't find the solutions..Did somebody find the solutions then pls help me out! :D
I found the problem, Check Fuse no. 10. And replace this one. After I did that mine started working again.
