I say that every time I hear Ms. Ella sing. She could sing my execution notice and I would go to my death in bliss. Ms. Ella and Papa Louis Armstrong are the only artists that I will listen to when they scat.
One of her nicknames was the First Lady of Song, and man she earned that title. Impeccable interpreter of great songs, she helped define the Great American Songbook. Ella is THE QUEEN!
Ella was and is one of the best of the best of the best. Classy, bold and beautiful style, like you said. Javon, it's great how you wander around among decades and styles. Thanks so much.
Oh my Jovaughn, you truly have an old soul. It is so apparent that you are enjoying much older singers and their style and talent. Enjoy the journey. Thanks for this Ella memory.
"Ella you doin' something to me right now!" She's been doing that to folks ever since she stepped onto the Apollo stage in 1934 as a more-or-less homeless 17 year old kid with a raggedy dress and a magical voice that, just a few years later, the whole country would be able to recognize instantly. When she and Sinatra finally had a chance to work together, he summed up the experience this way: "I try to work up to what she does. You know, try to pull myself up to that height, because I believe she is the greatest popular singer in the world."
Best of the jazz world. Ella has some great clips of scatting in mid '60s. C-Jam Blues and Cottontail with Duke Ellington or Mack the Knife are must see for jazz fans. How did we get from those times to now, sad.
I love her “Mack the Knife “ in Berlin where she forgets the words. So Classic it was on the album and released as a 45 And ended up in jukeboxes in the ‘70’s
Ella recorded a long series of albums where she sang some of the greatest songs of America's greatest songwriters. Collectively they're called "Ella Fitzgerald sings the Great American Songbook." Each album featured different songwriters: Ella Fitzgerald sings ...the Cole Porter Songbook; ...the Rogers and Hart Songbook; ...the Jerome Kern Songbook; ...the George and Ira Gershwin Songbook; etc. Many of the cuts from these albums can be found on youtube. Here's a search which will lead you to many of them: ruclips.net/user/results?search_query=ella+fitzgerald+songbook+albums
J, sometimes referred to as the Queen of Jazz. I love her "Something's Gotta Give" and I've Got My Love to Keep Me Warm. She's the Ella referred to in Stevie Wonder's tribute to Jazz great, "Sir Duke". She also is a great scat singer.
Jayvee there's a song, since you appreciate these old beauties,.. it'd blow you away. It's from an Oscars and Hammerstein musical on slavery called Showboat. William Warfield sings *OL MAN RIVER* . Possibly the most beautiful song I've ever heard in my life. And that man's voice is staggering.
Just a warning, if you do listen to this song try to find a version that is audio only. Some people have made some very upsetting videos to go with it and the images are traumatising. The song is about black people being lynched in the South.
I have a live recording of a song where Ella forgets the lyrics in the middle (a version of Mack the Knife) and it's still a stunning performance. She's an absolute legend.
This is the music I heard in my childhood... Ella, Mills Brothers, Ink Spots, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Etta James & many more.... Thanks for this !!
@@Diovanlestat true. The lynch mobs of the deep south were beyond evil, and it is horrific that so many innocent African-American men, women, and children were their victims in the 20th Century, solely for the color of their skin. Billie Holiday's beautiful voice contrasts so extremely from the evil she sings of in that song.
@@cathymerchant9768 A book by John Grisham really brings this home. How everyone was involved even their little kids were watching. It was the entertainment of the day. Horrific.
Ella & Louis Armstrong (amazing trumpet player) were magic together. The two Jazz greats!! 🔥 Ella's voice was flawless!! These singers were the real deal. No auto tune!!

The one and only Miss Ella! You can hear her whole heart and soul in her voice. There's no separation at all between what she's feeling and what she's singing; it's one and the same thing.
Another beautiful voice from my childhood. My mother never watched soaps on tv it was always music on the radio. Other great artists were Dean Martin, Sammy Davis, Jr., Perry Como., Harry Belafonte,, Nat King Cole, and Johnny Mathis. Hope you do many more reactions from this era, such wonderful music.
Ella Fitzgerald was my first concert. On July 4th, 1984, a new outdoor concert venue in Cincinnati opened with a patriotic concert by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, with special guests Ella Fitzgerald and Neil Armstrong. My parents took our whole family to see it. I was only 10, so I had no idea who Ella Fitzgerald was and couldn’t have cared less. Now, I get to tell people that Ella Fitzgerald was my first concert! Not many people my age get to say seeing a legend like that was their first show!
MISS ELLA!!! You've stepped into the world of a true legend now, my friend! One of the greatest female singers in the history of recorded music! THE greatest female scat singer of all time! You are absolutely correct, class at its finest.
Jazz Royalty - this is the QUEEN...total class, ultimate vocal control, passion, style....Ella had everything...it simply doesn't get any better than this...
This woman could sing, a shopping list, and yet make it sound special. My friend saw, her live three times, she was about 75 at the time. My goodness she was some kind of wonderful. Jovaughn’s clearly loving it.
My favorite Ella Fitzgerald songs- But Not For Me.... and... Someone to watch over me. I put these on and slow danced with my intended to let him know I was ready for love and it worked. What a pure voice she has. No wonder they called her the First Lady of song!
This is the TRUE Diva of song. She was a HISTORICAL figure in the music world. When I met her I was just as struck by her genuine character as I am by her musical talent!! This was REAL music and REAL talent, love me some Ella......MUSIK MAGIK!!!
Ms Ella.... she is incredible, amazing, wonderful!! For Christmas/December you should go and find all of these older artists and react to their Christmas songs... seriously. Ella had that voice... jazzy/bluesy sooo spectacular.. her voice, none like her!! Your reaction .. it’s great!!
I remember listening to Ella singing this when I was young in our kitchen sat in a chair near the fire. I had the mumps and was drinking soup in a cup. Isn't wonderful a memory just comes like a flash from hearing some music. A wonderful voice and the song is great. God bless you all love hugs and peace Mary-Ellen UK

Same. She's my absolute favorite singer.
You know it. She had liquid silver voice. Silk and velvet
Agreed, and that musical arrangement, WoW !!!
She has one of the most clear and pure voices ever in music. Sooooo good.
Her collaborations with Louis Armstrong are something else.
Their version of "Summertime" is a masterpiece!

Right !!
Everything Ms. Ella and Papa Louis did together was 🔥!
"Man, woman or child, Ella's the greatest." - Bing Crosby (not a fan, but he was RIGHT)! I think that was Joe Pass on guitar?

Ella was truly the Queen of the Jazz music! Her voice was pure.

She is one of the best scat singer there is.
She's the only scat singer in my opinion. Others try it and don't even come close.
You found a diamond
Ella was Frank Sinatra's favorite singer, and he would know.
In the days of Ella and the other greats of her era, people did get dressed up to see them perform and rightly so.
Yessss!!! Ella's is a legend!!!!
There's scads of beautiful music. From many decades and centuries. But there's nothing on earth like the blues. ❤❤❤❤❤

My favourite songs by Ella are "Every time we say goodbye" and "Someone to watch over me".
Every time we say goodbye... brings tears to my eyes every time.
mine tooo- someone to watch over me just melts my heart
Ella was never flashy or showy. She was always easy, effortless perfection. Johnny Carson said she was the best performer he ever had on his show.

I was lucky enough to attend dinner parties at ' Uncle Bills' back during my college days at the University of Illinois. Great and kind man.
In the 70’s toward the end of her life she did a scat jazz vocal vibrato that shattered a wineglass. Amazing vocalist.
Ella had the best voice ever! Julie London sang this too!

@@mst1740 Thanks for giving the subject, I hated hate him for him to be unprepared.
