Excellent choice... Here's one of those you had to be there to believe it stories: I was out in Tucson to play in a Michael Landon Tennis Tournament years ago and a friend who lived there took me took an old blues bar that had about twenty people in it. I sat down at the bar and the older lady next to me turned out to be Miss Etta James!!!!:) Fantastic night just sitting and talking with her for a couple of hours....:)
When Etta James sang a song she made you feel each word deep in your soul. As soon as she starts singing you start to sway, close your eyes and it’s like you’ve gone back in time. A time when you had to have talent and songs had meaning.
At last, “At last”!! This is from 1960, so it definitely sounds like both the 50s & the 60s, just like you said. Can you believe this was her first album?! 🔥🔥🔥
I smiled through this reaction, such a classic song! when you said you felt like you should be wearing a tux- a lot of people use this as a first dance song for their wedding (at least weddings I've been to!). She has such a strong beautiful voice, love Etta James!
This is the song I walked down the isle to my husband in 2016 after a 16 year courtship. 👰♀️💙 Everyone got up & cheered. A magical moment wrapped around this song.
Ooh nooo...😢 My mom wanted this played for her memorial. We did. It's tough to listen to but I love it more anytime I hear it now. Im crying and thinking about her as you said, "They dont make em like this no more.." No Jovaughn they surely do not. She was a rare jem. Evelyn Margaret Lujan 4/24/37-1/2/19 I miss you Mom.⚘💔
Loosing a mother is always such a hard thing. We had Elvis' "How Great Thou Art" played at my mom's. She wanted us to play "Ding Dong The Witch Is Dead", but we opted not to!
I'm sorry for your loss. Losing anyone is tough but when its someone you have such a close bond with it is that much worse. I like to believe my parents are watching over me from above and it does help. I still talk to them out loud xx
@@dianelindall1153 She sounds like a hoot! 😄 That would be such a funny thing to play at such a serious moment. She wanted people uncomfortably laughing! I love that.😆
I've never ever heard anyone sing "The Blues" with such REAL soul as The Lady....When I watched her singing "Fine and Mellow" surrounded by, probably, the greatest group of jazz musicians ever assembled, I was in awe.....You could almost feel the reverence that Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins etc. had for her. RIP Billie. Link to that performance.......ruclips.net/video/TaPIyo51cr4/видео.html
I knew that I knew this and the moment Miss Ella start singing I remembered from when. We were young, there were 6 of us then, so late 1960 to early 61. Mum said be quiet and listen and this song came on the radio. We were quiet and I remember Mum rocking the baby in her arms in time to the music, a special memory. You are so right sweetheart, the art of perfect voices that need no help seem to be a thing of the past sadly. Take care and stay safe please everyone God bless you all my friends love hugs and peace to you all Mary-Ellen UK
This song has quite a history. Written in 1941, Etta's version is from 1960. Glen Miller, Celine Dion and Beyonce have had chart successes with this song.
Beyoncé played her in the movie “Cadillac records“. She did this song in the movie. It was a good rendition, but… Etta James is the original and the one and the only. She gets down into your soul and your heart and this was 1960, and it still gives you chills when you listen to it. She was way ahead of her time, great respect for this vocalist👏👏👏‼️
Etta James does sing the definitive version of this song but this is not the original version. The song was first recorded by Glenn Miller & His Orchestra for the 1941 movie Sun Valley Serenade..
At my wedding reception we had both sets of parents first dance songs after our first song. This was my in-laws song and my parents song was Our Day Will Come by Ruby and the Romantics.
Miss James biggest best hit. What a beautiful powerful voice. She killed this song. Elegance is a great descriptive term for her. Lights low dancing with your lady....oh the wonderful emotions this evokes. I love this song from the first. Great song...great react J. More plz!#!
There is more to a life in music than auto-tune and drum samples. Excellent choice to bring civilization and harmony back to the world. You are quite right - They don't make them like this any more, but we humans still have the capacity for greatness. Thank you.
At Last, no one has done it better than Etta James. Her voice is a gift from God and we are all blessed to be able to hear her incredible voice. A true American icon.
I would love to hear you react to The Commitments singing Try a Little Tenderness. I guarantee you will love it and the lead singer, Andrew Strong, was only 18 when he sang this. He also does a classic version of Mustang Sally
This is such a great song... I think this is her most famous! It is so elegant for sure. Famous for girl friends, boyfriends... couples... it’s so amazing!! Her voice is so incredible... this song was made to highlight her beautiful voice. It is in so many love story movies....I adore your reaction!!
I grew up listening to Etta. She was a favorite of my older sister and mine and we had all of her 45s. "Sunday Kind of Love," "Pushover," "Something's Got a Hold on Me" and "Tell Mama." Later, I had her "Greatest Hits" album and if I couldn't find it, it would be in my daughter's room. We were an Etta James family.
My heart almost stopped when I saw that you reacted to this song!!! Thank you!!🎶🎼🎵💜 the song was written in 1941 but Etta made it popular!!! Perfect wedding song!!!
This came out around 1960. Etta, Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday... three ladies that moved your soul with very different voices. What I wouldn't give to have seen them perform live. Thanks for venturing out in your reactions!
This song is one of the greatest songs in recording history. The version on her Burning Down The House album recorded live at the House of Blues is even more compelling than this version because it is. Peace.
It's been a while sorry Jay. But what a nice song for my birthday i love it so much. Love your reaction. Listen to that voice o my gosh so beautiful. Stay safe respect Jay. 😊😊💖💕💖
This has always been my number 1 favorite song. Always. #2 is Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street. The sax makes me stop in my tracks. Both songs take me away...some place, I don't know. My #3 usually depends on what my mood is so its subjective. Lol! But At Last and Baker Street...they're solid. 😉😎
Elegant. I think that is a perfect description of this song Jay. She's a legend and this track is amazing. It's always been one of my all-time favorites. Thank you for reacting!😍💖
I remember seeing my parents dance to this just before leaving to attend a Military ball or cabaret in downtown DC. Her classy, elegant voice was undoubtedly a favorite of my dad's who listened to her quite often. Please listen to her songs Trust in Me, Sunday Kinda of Love, All I could Do was Cry and even her more playful tune Pushover. Surely you won't be disappointed with either of these classic gems.
Jay your just fabulous...during this whole crazy trip I'm calling my life right now.....my friend you have kept this old gal company many a long night....thank you for your friendship!!!!
This song makes me tear up every time! This was my brother and sister in laws wedding song! She walked down the aisle on the beach in Dominican Republic! And this song instantly takes me back there every time! A GREAT song can take you back in time to a memory you’d otherwise forgot! ❤️
My God this woman's voice. She hits those flats and sharps like nobody's business.
Etta James had such a unique beautiful voice. I love all her songs but "At Last" is The Masterpiece!
WOW BEETHOVEN and now ETTA JAMES You My Man are "WAY" ahead of the curve !!!!
And he appreciates them all for what they are rather it’s his style or not! I love that!!
Good music is good music, and he gets it.
Etta James is one of the all the time greats. It’s nice to see you enjoying her. She’s timeless.
One of the things that makes this song so fabulous is the wonderful arrangement. Not to mention Etta's voice.
Miss Etta James, nobody better
One of a kind.
Finally! (Yes, the 60s, do more of them)
Yes one of kind is right. I love her voice.
Plenty of covers of this, but none compare to Miss Etta James.
Can't get no betta than Etta!❤
I wonder how many couples have danced to this at their wedding through the years?
Such a classic! ❤️
At least six.
Me!!
I sang it at a co-worker's wedding!
My niece did!💓💓💓😎😎😎
Most soulful female singer in the world! ❤️❤️❤️
I hit like before the music started!
Thank you
This is the way.
Yeah
Me TOOOOOO I knew you would love her Jay!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
I did too! Sometimes you just KNOW it's good, you don't need to wait to hear it before clicking the like
How much emotion does she put into two words: At Last!
Etta James...a classic. From 1960. I’m so impressed that you responded to this one. You have such a deep soul!
100 percent 👍
This guy is something else. Deep old sold that has been back and forth since the 60's
Love Etta ❤️
Etta James' voice is so smooth like liquid gold in my personal opinion!
I bet Etta James never expected this song to ever be called "a banger" lol
"They don't make them like this no more"!! Truer words were never said!
40's, 50's,60's,70's and 80's you will find great music.
Yes, Ms Etta James, a legend in her own time. This song will never go out of style. You picked a classic this time!🥰
A timeless classic. They'll be reacting to this in exactly the same way 100 years from now.

I used to sing that song every day.
Along with some Johnny Mathis (Chances are) and
many other deep feeling songs.
Her voice is transforming. 🥂💕
Oh, YES! Johnny Mathis!
Amazingly...so did I. Just great singing to yourself song.
I have been waiting for him to do Johnny Mathis for ages!!
Others by Johnny Mathis: "The Twelfth of Never", "Wonderful, Wonderful" and "It's Not for Me to Say".
“They don’t make ‘em like this no more, I’ll tell ya that!” Amen to that, Jovaughn. Truer words were never spoke! 👍
This is the song I walked down the isle to my husband in 2016 after a 16 year courtship. 👰♀️💙 Everyone got up & cheered. A magical moment wrapped around this song.
Most critics regard her as one of the TOP 10 Voices of ALL TIME!
Etta James calming her sound to fit into those early 60s pre-motown charts. But she just couldn't hide the soul could she?
Ooh nooo...😢
My mom wanted this played for her memorial. We did. It's tough to listen to but I love it more anytime I hear it now.

I've heard this song at so many weddings. Never get tired of it.
One of the most classic legendary performances ever..
OMG! Ive been waiting for THIS forever!!!
Nobody does it like Ms Etta James. A legend. Played as the first track at many weddings.
Miss Etta was such an original. Check out her live performance of 'I'd rather go blind '.

She's the link between the old school style and the motown. I get chills everytime I hear her. Superb!
the example of a perfect voice. No one comes close to her sound
This woman was in a class of her own. She knew it too! Nov 1960. She died in 2012. She was a powerhouse.
