When I played this as a kid who didn't know english and hadn't watched the movie, it felt like a very eerie and surreal game. For some reason, the levels had an apocalyptic and unnatural silence to them that made me feel like I never left the first dream stage. I felt like the characters and npcs were all ignoring something important and invisible, doing the silly things they did while purposely not tackling the bigger question of why it felt so empty and why Elliot felt like the bear's imaginary guide in this hellscape. It was really creepy
I felt something similar. The game has a lot of ambient noise and relegates its music to only certain jingles and setpieces. For me I remember feeling very calm and focused, but also very confused; it was my first game with stealth mechanics and I also struggled to time the roars correctly, so a lot of it was just wondering around the strangely beautiful areas without getting anything done.
I think the game has a great grasp of lighting and colour; especially since they set multiple levels at sunset, giving everything a dark and dusty hue. Combined with the sparse sound design it does make each area seem like it's "trapped in time". Very memorable and surreal; it was honestly a lot to wrap my head around as a kid.

Yes! There was something eerie about this game, the game just feels so devoid of any living thing, I always felt so alone when playing even though there were npcs. It also reminds me of the happy feet game, I got it too for christmas and it is just one of those weird games that make me question why I spent so many hours playing it, so creepy.

I loved this game so much as a kid. I used to play it non stop. I didn’t know the game was that short tbh.
I remember during the dam level, I always toss Elliott at the hunter near the lowest bridge just for them to chase him and have the music loop, then the hunter just gives up the moment Elliott reaches you.
Bruh me too, it was oddly fun throwing Elliot at hunters and watching him run for his life until he got back. Earning the trust and aid of the other animals (squirrels, skunks and beavers) was always satisfying too, and it actually felt better and more earned than in the movie where they all just love Boog the moment he gets a plan for taking out the hunters. Here, he gradually earns their favor doing beneficial tasks for them (retrieving loved ones, scaring off hunters, etc) which makes it more satisfying when facing hunters in the later levels with their help.

I only remember a few things about this game. A.) Throwing Elliot off of cliffs cause I thought it was the funniest thing ever. And B.) Shaws house. I was deadly scared of that level and I had to make my dad do it for me.

Man I remember playing this game, I don't remember on what console I played, but I used to be so scared on the level of Shaw's house so I always asked my mom to do it for me, and when It was time to fight Shaw, for some reason I always just mess around and never actually beat him.
