I just came back to guitar after a 10-year break and this is the beast I picked up. This video popped up in my recommendations and man it's nice to see it's full potential. Can't wait till I can shred it like you man.
I just my new one 2 days ago and I love it...I have put 2 different eq pedals and a 20db boost pedal in the effects loop..with either eq pedal turned on by its self it just sounds killer..I set mine with the gain on full..Bass at 1 o'clock...mids just below 12 o'clock and Treble at 1 o'clock and channel volume dimed..add the Master volume in and it just produces an awesome high gain sound. Running into a 4-12" speaker cabinet..and Damn for a solid state amp head it sounds awesome ! To save on tubes I put my 2 tube amp heads in my closet and just run the Super Crush head.
After watching this video the first time, I bought one of these a couple days ago. I used to hate solid state amps. but this one kicks ass. The more I play it, the more I like it, and it might take pedals better than any amp I've owned.
The tube snobs complain about the gain. Owning valves and SS I will agree with them you can't achieve the level distortion you get with valves. But I had to make them realize that if you add a valve distortion pedal to the mix and just disregard the amps gain you can basically achieve identical results . I've never have solely relied on an amps gain channel . They are either to thin, too dark, and almost every case the amp is way too noisy and requires a noise gate to kill the awful hiss made by overdriven pre-amp sections... After over 12 yrs with many blackstar amps. I finally gave up on them do to the noise levels of the dirty channels.. I use a TC sentry as a noise gate
Ty Tabor of King's X did a demo on this amp. He's been using the Crush 120 for quite some time. He really praises Orange solid state amps and few will question his tone!
For the price this amp just simply can’t be beat imo. I had both of my tube amps shit the bed in the last 6 months, and instead of getting them fixed right away I was pissed off so I just went and bought this thing hahaha. It’s a great amp, let alone a great solid state amp. I will say it’s not as dark and fuzzy as I’d like on it’s dirty channel, definitely a little brighter and tighter than the classic Orange sound. Almost like an old Orange and a Marshall had a baby. With a boost you can get old school thrash and death metal out of this thing all day. The clean channel takes pedals pretty well, I like running my rats and different fuzzes straight in.
I run Two Orange SC100’s and Orange PPC 4x12 cabs in Stereo. Usually, Run thru the clean channel, I have Frost Giant Electronic Soma, Massif, The Mountain and Architect of Reality, Earthquaker Devices Special Cranker, MXR Phase 90, MXR Analog Delay.
I need to fuck around more with mine - I've been mostly running pedals through the clean channel or into a preamp pedal into return of the fx loop.. these take pedals REALLY well...(also haven't tried the direct out yet) 🤘🎸💥
Ive been looking at that super crush, man it sounds really good. you are right, don't need to spend a fortune to get a great tone. nice job!! sounds killer. I was sensing some Monolord with the rat pedal ,,, so good!!
I don’t like doom metal at all but the tone you got at the beginning of the video sounds great for just about anything lol. I play BlackThrash and just picked one up so I can play live shows.
Thank you so much for cranking it all the way on the clean channel, I was hoping it would have that breakup. This might be a dumb question but if you cranked up the volume all the way on the clean channel so it distorts some, does the master volume control keep it distorted on low volumes or does it clean it up? I have an orange crush 35rt combo amp, and I have the volume about where it breaks up nicely before I add my fuzz pedals into it, it gets really loud because it doesn't have a master volume. I'm hoping that if I buy this I can have a similar effect but at whatever volume I need it to be at so sound guys don't get pissed at me haha. Thanks again for the video, this really helped me get a better understanding of the amp!
I had this amp for six months, but didn't rehearse of gig it, so never really took it through its paces. It definitely does the metal, but I found it very treble, but would like to given it a road test again. Top video, as always, your knocking it into the park now.
I was waiting for you to come out with this video..I have one on a pickup list and it just went straight up to the top...I have to grab one of these now...your videos are fantastic demos...thanks.
thanks for this video! noob question (despite 25+ plus years playing): I have this amp and I'm happy with the clean channel + big muff triangle pedal. When I try the big muff in the dirty channel, though, it sounds quite bad, I don't mean "nasty sound", it just sounds wrong. The best tone I got is with the channel gain maxed out, but even that way it's not really usable. I have pedal volume at noon, sustain/distortion almost at max, tone barely past noon. My idea was to keep the dirty channel with a light crunch and use the pedal on/off to add distortion. am I doing something wrong? thanks!
The way i like to do it is set the amps gaon to 2 oclock. Then take muff. Max the volume , turn the tone all the way off. Turn the sustain all the way off as well. Then maybe turn the shstain up a little but if you want it heavier
So you don’t need a cab to play this amp head direct into an interface? I read another review by someone saying it had to be plugged into speakers to use the DI which made no sense to me lol
@@TheDistortionPrinciple Exactly! I also think it would just be awesome to play an Orange, I've never owned an Orange amp, and haven't had a solid state in over 15 years.
The Orange circuit changed the world and The Distortion Principle is changing youtube
For the worse lol
@@TheDistortionPrinciple not at all your demos are straight forward honest and I actually look forward to them
@@joshferguson9703 thanks!!!
@JDavidFall thanks glad yoy enjoy it!
Yes!!!!! I love my Super Crush head. Best bang for the buck out there.
Does it gave a built in noisegate? If it doesn’t, do you find the need for a noisegate pedal with this amp?
Thanks
It does not. At high gain it will naturally introduce noise bit not really more noise than other amps
@@TheDistortionPrincipleCool. Thanks.

Welcome back to the family! Lol
I got an Orange after my ten-ish year hiatus. No, Im not joking.
The best demo of this on YT. Period.
Oh wow thanks!!!
Whole lot of amp for not a lot of money. I don't think there's an amp with better price to watt ratio outside of maybe no name stuff.
Exactly. I used to rehearse with the 120 as well. These amps can't be beat for price to tone

It really is a great pedal platform amp and its dirty channel is great as well

Yea! Pedals on a clean channel always seem to have less noise in my experience as well

Thats pretty much the same takeaway I have from it. At first the brightness had me a little offset until I put it in a mix and thought ahhhhhhh 😆

Who says solid state amps suck? Pure nonsense. I have the Pro Crush 120, best amp I have ever bought.
