So many demos, usually those produced by the manufacturer themselves for some reason, gloss over the cleans, off-cleans and moderately dirty tones and go straight for the flat out shredding tones.

I love how you guys demo gear. Most demos go "Here's my clean sound" then only play dreamy, ethereal stuff, then go "Here's the distortion." and proceed to only play hard rock and metal riffs and leads. You two show how the amp sounds on the other 95% of sounds you'd use it for. Well done.

I have no luck at all with tube amplifiers. My fault, I always leave them on too long, I don't use the stand by appropriately, etc. Even so, i have an old solid state Marshall Lead 12 that has always been a great little amp. I recently replaced the old Celestion speaker (it was getting a bit thin) with a Jensen green with a ceramic magnet. It was like the little amp got its soul back. Really enhanced the mids, better bass response and much cleaner highs. I watched your video because I'm looking at this amp head. Just got the head version of the Super Crush 100. Very responsive and noticeably different to the previous model Cr120 in how the controls behave.the clean channel is a little bit Fender ish and will take pedals like a dream with it being super high headroom or can be set to edge of break up. The Dirty channel will do filthy blues tone to rock to high gain and it’s does that slow controlled feedback as well it’s lots of fun.

@@Eliphas_Elric I think the mids come through more as you turn it up, into it’s second stage of gain. And that would be almost all the way up, as this channel’s designed for MUCH more clean headroom, so it can take pedals better. With the master volume that means you can get a more fender type clean and then the Orange cleans in the second stage. (Two clean tones)

      Been mainly a Les Paul + Marshall guy;
main amp is a 2000's era DSL50 head through the 1960AV cabinet.
Got to see the band Kings X live for the 1st time, 2 weeks ago.
The guitarist, Ty Tabor, who really needs no introduction, was rocking a Strat into an older Orange CR120 ( which is what these Super Crush 100 are based off of) with 2 4×12 matching cabinets.
The band that opened for them, that guitarist had an expensive Bogner tube head into a Mesa 4×12 cabinet; Tabor's tone and presence absolutely demolished this guy's setup.
I couldn't believe how much the single coil + Orange SS combination cut through in the mix and how awesome he sounded.
I'll always have a soft spot for Marshall valves, but Ty is living proof that valve amps don't always necessarily beat a quality SS amp.
Definitely got my interest in trying one of these in the near future.

The master on this amp works a little different than a regular valve amp. Since the amp is solid state, hitting the power amp section is not really the focus like a valve amp. Most of the tone/distortion comes in the preamp section which basically is the channel volume. So cranking the channel volume and keeping the master low works well. If you are worried about needing to crank it for the sweet spot like regular tubes, it is not really an issue with this amp.

You gotta mic it anyway, the sound engineer will order you to turn your f*ing volume down, with the DI Out you won’t need a cab (Remember? My back hurts…), just EQ it because cabsim tends to enhance higher frequencies and we don’t want it. Maybe on a recording you can ear the difference between SS and tubes but in the shitty clubs where you can still play rock? Come on… this amp sounds phenomenal with gain at 1 o’clock, more gain sounds too fuzzy, but you have plenty of volume for any stage or rehearsal, cleans are better than any tube amp and takes in pedals like a charm. I’m seriously thinking to get one, and I now own a VHT Pitbull and a Fender Twin!

This amp is excellent for punk rock, take pedals excellent on the clean channel too, ppl think this amp is for metal but it isnt really, it will do metal but shouldnt be categorised as a metal amp

Some solid state amps are awesome, like this Orange.
But some are not so good,
    Just like valve amps.

The head and cabinet sounds great, clear and articulate, the combo sounds not so good, too compressed. Could be the speaker they used in the combo is not very good.

Tubes SUCK. It's 80 year old tech that NEEDS to be put to bed once & for all. Today's modeling and associated SS tech is clearly superior in every respect. Class D power amps are smaller, more efficient, more cost-effective, run cooler, and basically NEVER blow. Well-designed SS and modeling gear is SO superior to its ridiculously complex outdated electronic component circuitry in terms of performance, cost effectiveness, flexibility and reliability. ANY player with even a modicum of creativity and good ears can conjure up any required tone and effect combination that would meet any live or studio need. Add to that the dismal state of the current tube market and it's absolutely a no brainer. Some will continue to pay for over-priced tube-based amp's, rather than investing in worthy places to put their money. Eventually, enough folks will make the transition to the panacea of today's huge soundscape of modern gear that they will wonder why they ever threw so much hard-earned money into dead, outmoded tube gear.

Tube amps will be put to bed when the demand for them dries up... Not when someone arbitrarily snaps their fingers and decides they are obsolete.
Modelling has indeed come a long, long way since the '90s, but so far has failed to topple tube amps in the market. Maybe that will happen over the next decade or so, maybe not. It all depends on what players choose to spend their money on.

Well just get whatever you want my friend. I think the world will be fine with tubes and SS amps. There is more argument to win. I enjoy both styles of amps and have both styles because guitars and amps are cool. All tube, hybrid, SS and even a modeling amp are in my arsenal. From 1.5 watt to 100 watts all are sweet!

@@benlogan430 Yeah, there’s seems to be a place for them, BUT there’s much less tubes manufacturers today. Gladly or sadly they are fading out!
I see a combination of SS and digital taking over real soon.
Look at what happen to analogue/vinyl, still sounds best, but the majority would rather listen to crappy MP3 😂. Convince and versatility over quality is what most people are after today.
And considering SS & digital is getting very close, I think there will soon be a zero sound compromise.

Foreshadowing ? I know you posted this before the current global events - but today (3/16/22) its possible that tubes will completely dry up. They are environmentally horrible to make, and the only places that do make them have little to no restrictions regarding the production of them. And looks like the world may not be getting any new tubes for the unforseen future. Fender has already cut amp production in half. Could possibly finally be the end of tube gear.

LOL ! I'm inclined to agree , as much as anything because Russian tubes are going to be in short or non-existent supply , and electricity cost is becoming a problem for a lot of people . The supply of worthwhile NOS tubes is dwindling too , and they cost an arm and a leg . If you look at the high-end hifi world , there's really no point in getting hung up on tubes unless you're just knocked out by the glow-in-the-dark novelty . Beautifully designed solid state equipment made with premium components sounds every bit as good as the best tube gear , and will last for life
