My father passed away and left me his 69 convertible cougar. It has a super worn out 390 with a automatic. This would be the ultimate swap. I know quick 6 makes a controller for a 6r80( im using in my 12 mustang). My father dreamed of breaking into the 11s his best with the 390 was a 12.2 @ 111. Im sure with a circle d convertor and the 7.3 with just headers would do it. I cant wait to pick one of the engines up
I remember reading about tests in the early 80's to see which made more power, carbs or Hilborn style direct port injection. They found that carbs on tunnel ram intakes made more power than that type of injection. Having a computer making adjustments will probably change that story, today.
With the right tuning injection should make more power. If it doesn't you aren't at the limit yet, in terms of compression ratio and timing. Carbs always have trouble getting the same mixture quality in every cylinder, usually cylinders further from the carb will run lean. So if you set the overall mixture for best power the lean cylinders will be limited by knocking while those closer to the carb are running too rich and not making the max power possible. Port injection (or a seperate carb barrel for every cylinder, as is often done for hotted up inline engines with side-draft carbs) corrects this.
@WDMtea yes it will I don't know what you're talking about. Everybody is not a modular head. The same thing you said they said about the ls thing. People like easy. 7.3 can be done at home. The coyote,4.6,5.4,5.8,5.2 all take real knowledge to bacyard boogie 7.3 is way more easy to mess with.
Overhead cam isnt space age alien tech. Its not rocket science. In fact OHC has been around for over 100 years. And the Modular Platform has been around for 30 years. @ranware9071
Everyone selling these dual plane intakes with a 90degree dogleg on the lower plenum to intake port should have to post a dyno graph of their intake vs a stocker. The same style intake is sold for a gen 3 hemi. These engines have a very high intake port angle complemented by the factory intake manifolds. Please show us a dyno test where these dual plane intakes with a 90degree port intrance on the lower plenum surpass the output of a factory intake??? Godzilla and gen 3 hemi dual planes look like an enormous hp compromise to buy hood clearance for swappers and sell substandard parts for profit. Tell me I'm wrong
The ECU capability is really cool. I'm assuming the ECUs are for offroad use only... but have to ask if they can they be used on a street car and pass an emissions check where they plug in to your OBDII port and make sure everything is a pass?
I have been thinking of getting a 1967-85 Ford 2WD pickup truck. Eventually a 4x4 truck as well. I saw this video and wondered what I could expect if I dropped in a stock or upgraded Godzilla like this one & a manual transmission. I've had 4 street 80's carb Fox bodies under my belt.
Since I don't have a good feeling on how tall this engine is, I'm wondering about Hood clearance on some vehicles? Like do a picture overlay with a Ford small-block and a Ford 390 Ford 460, to get a good visualization on the size differences.
Do they make something like this for SBF? If not, I’m sure there’s a market for it. I myself would love to have one. Using a factory cam sync and maybe MSD crank trigger.
The weaks points of the 7.3 are the connecting rods-need to be replaced with alloy. Headgaskets are notorious for popping as well when adding more power. Other than that seems like a solid platform, yet the Coyote 5.0 can easily match it...😏
We made about 1800HP with stock head gaskets, so can't agree with your comment on "notorious" for popping. Agree need to replace stock rods and pistons if you are going after big power.
Not really they are designed for different purposes The coyote is for light duty trucks and fast cars. Hi revs and horse power. The Godzilla is designed to do work like a diesel for low end torque and pulling power.
the 7.3 is awesome I agree but the coyote is better in every way, the 7.3 will not match the Coyote. Even in stock form. As for the guy saying the 7.3 doesn't bust head gaskets is crazy. Im a mechanic here in Florida every other week im replacing the head gaskets on the 7.3. Yes its on big trucks that are use for pulling and hard work. I almost never do a head gasket on a coyote equipped f150. Its either the cams and mds on dodge ram or head gasket/turbo issues on the (2.7-3.5 & 7.3) f150.

I love the Godzilla…would love to swap one in my single cab 95 F150. just curious, what do you and Brian see in this platform that keeps y’all interested in it? I understand the displacement and push rod design from a modern day Ford engine is awesome. But, just seems like the engine is expensive and hard to get. Plus, the aftermarket just isn’t there for it (yet). So, what keeps y’all going at it? Love the videos man. 🤘🏼
Well, when you say expensive, what is your baseline? These engines make north of 600 HP and north of 620 ft-lbs with just a cam change. They are very durable and with boost, like most engines north of 1000HP easily. Package size is near what a 9.5 deck Windsor is and smaller than a Cleveland. New parts are easly available. For the aftermarket, what are you looking for that is not available?
@@brianwolfe2993 i understand “expensive” is relative to different people. It’s expensive to a 28 year old guy like my self who is mainly trying to buy a house. But yeah I gotcha! Makes a ton of horse power in a relatively small package. Maybe I just haven’t looked hard enough for aftermarket I’m just going off of what I’ve seen on RUclips. It’s not like I’m going to be buying one anytime soon but I was just hoping to get an answer from the experts. 🤘🏼Wish Ford would drop more of these into different models instead of just the super duty’s.
