    Hi Everyone,
Just to let you know that I've just posted Episode #33 of my weekly show.
Since posting my MYSTICAL WORLD picture online I’ve had quite a few questions asking how the coloured rim lighting effect was added onto the two girls seeing as it doesn’t come from original in camera lighting.
Well of course it was all done in Photoshop so today I’m going to show exactly how to do it; hope you 'Like' it and of course feel free to 'Share'.
    Thanks for looking in,
    Glyn :)

Thank you, Glyn Dewis! I was already familiar with the basics of this technique, but I had some trouble restricting the effect to select areas. The "creat layer" option will definitely be handy next time ;-)

Hi Glyn, Just a quick note to say thank you and to let you know you are an EXCELLENT teacher. You go slowly and deliberately...very clear and very thorough. There are many super talented folks out there, but they sometimes do not convey the info well--they go too quickly or assume we are all at their skill level. You, on the other hand, are awesome. Thank you so much for the tutorial.

    Hi Glyn,
I saw this completed image at the Birmingham NEC a couple of weeks ago and it took my breath away (not good if your 67 years old ;-)
It is a fabulous piece of work, I think it was on the Loxley stand.
I was convinced that the rim lighting was created by a light behind the image.
    Kind regards.
    John Stanley

Dude! I was watching this thinking, "This is cool, but I already know how to do all this." and then at the end, you totally blew me away... and it was an afterthought on your part!
Even after more than a decade of using Photoshop, I had NO idea you could Shift+Click with a paint brush to draw a straight line. When I saw that, I felt like such a dunce...lol
Thank you! That will be very useful going forward.

This is just fantastic... I've been working with ps for a bit over a year now and have learned so much but there are things that have just evaded me... just recently I learned of the amazing versatility for fantastic effects from the layer style box and feel rather silly that it's taken me so long to discover this, ha ha! I did not know how or that we could even make another lighting layer from a mask... brilliant! There are tons of tips and tricks, info (and yes, I love color dodge and soft light as my two faves, lol!) that I am so very enthused about learning. You go through it very slow, demonstrating as you go, not racing and are a wonderful teacher too! I have subscribed and can't wait to go through your vids and learn as much as I can from you. Thank you so much, again.

The only trouble with this technique is, that the end result , really does look total fake. That's just my frank opinion. Putting a light source of any kind , behind the subject works much better.

  • @Santainho

Subscribed because of the art, unsubscribed because of the pace.
You could and probably should assume that people who want to do advanced techniques like this knows the basics of photoshop.

Sebastian Nordqvist Can't please all the people all the time...and shouldn't try to either. Shame you feel this way but for me as someone who uses, and teaches photoshop I'll always learn something new..no matter if the tutorial is based at beginner or advanced. Also there's no where that I state the videos are 'advanced users' only because that would be unfair to exclude folks. If you know the basics then great but me as a 'pro' I would never and will never know it all. Finally there are no 'advanced' techniques in Photoshop...there are just techniques; the advanced part is knowing what techniques to use and how to combine them to get a final result.
