For all those wondering what's the point in fixing these: if you're doing commercial work, print, or high-quality publishing, these anomalies will be glaringly visible in your final result, and the more you stylize your photos, the more likely it is that they will be pronounced. Also, you don't want to be in a position where you post or print a photo just to notice a speck of dust destroy your entire workflow.

I've been using this technique for many years now and it's a must use feature. In my case we want nice crisp white backgrounds to our images so after applying the solar curve we use the dodge tool set to highlights @100%. The reason we use the dodge tool instead of the erase tool is because the erase tool is too strong most of the time, and the dodge tool is just right. Of course there is the occasional need to use the erase, but it's the dodge that does most of the work.

Oh that’s interesting. I was doing something similar but just squeezing different tonal areas with levels so that I could see flaws more clearly. I’ve been using “viewing layers” for like 15 years. I’ll try this next time, it may make my workflow faster.

This is called a "Solar" curve in NY, short for solarization, or how it appears like the solarization effect in film based photography. There are many variations, and many other abstract transform functions like this for a number of other purposes as well.

I never knew this was the name for this! I've been doing this for years making crazy curve presets just for testing and finding anomalies, never realizing it was a real thing! Much prefer how you have your curves set up compared to mine since when I've made these testing curves in the past, I would just randomly move the points around like crazy until it revealed issues lol.

I don't know about solar light, but solar something! ✨
Great video and great tip, and I definitely will be testing that action.
That music in the end though!! First my thought was "where is the music coming from?" thinking it might have been another tab, but nope.
The next thought was "why?!" cause it felt so random to go through a music with just a sweet voice talking, then suddenly music.
And the final thought was just "it's brilliant!", cause it made me react, it made me get full attention again just as the CTA came in, it brought a smile to my face and lead to a comment.
    Well done! 😃

You can buy screen calibrators, ill not name the companies as my post will get deleted. There’s no other 95% reliable way. Although Apple monitor hardware is much better these days, not like Windows boxes whose calibration is all over the place. All default settings on monitors put FAR TOO MUCH CONTRAST into the screen. You need to reduce that as a first step

The image is going to look different depending on the user’s screen and environment. Artifacts you might not see could still be visible for other people, and artifacts like this can become more apparent with compression and degradation.
