When people say that Nash, Melo, Tmac and Yao were overrated because they didn't win anything need to understand why they couldn't make it past the first, second or third round of playoffs.
When you've gotta face either the Lakers or Spurs in the 2000s, it was difficult to advance. Your best hope is to have them eliminate another.
Same could be used about players in the 90s and going against Jordan's bulls

Lol Gasol, y’all have been brain washed Gasol was nowhere near Webber’s level, Gasol made 1 all star and led a team to the playoffs 1x and got swept as an 8 seed, Webber led a team to the playoffs as a rookie and basically every team he was on in his prime
Kobe made Gasol, he led a team with Kwame Brown and Smush Parker as the starting center and point guard to a 7 seed and a 3-1 lead over the Suns, obviously if you replace a bum at center with a low level all star and a bum at point guard with a championship level role player you’re going to see a huge improvement but don’t get it twisted Gasol was just what gave Kobe some help Gasol was nowhere near Rasheed, KG, Duncan, Webber, Dirk, Amare he was the tier after them prob a lil worse than Jermain O’Neal and a lil better than Carlos Boozer

The Eastern Conference in in the 80s is as close as you can get:
    Best Teams
Celtics with Larry Bird, Kevin Mchale, Robert Parish, and Dennis Johnson
Average Record from 1980 to 1989: 59-23, 5 finals appearances and 3 titles
76ers with Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Mo Cheeks, and Charles Barkley
Average Record from 1980 to 1989: 54-28, 3 finals appearances and 1 title
Pistons with Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, and Bill Laimbeer
    Average Record from 1980 to 1989 42-40 (52-30 from 1984 to 1989) 3 finals appearances and 2 titles
Bucks with Sidney Moncrief and Marques Johnson
Average Record from 1980 to 1989 52-30, 3 conference finals appearances
Atlanta Hawks with Dominique Wilkins and Doc Rivers
    Average Record from 1980 to 1989 45-37
The Bulls with a young MJ and Pippen would be a strong playoff team in the later few years
    The First Seed Averaged 62-20
    Second Seed 57-25
    Third Seed 53-29
    Fourth Seed 48-34
    5th Seed 44-38
    6th Seed 42-40
Considering there was only 11 teams int he Eastern conference at the time the next few seeds are not to great
I would argue that the East in the 80s might be the most top heavy conference ever with usually 3 or 4 contenders, 1 or 2 decent teams and 6 awful teams
The West in the 2000s was definitely better but this is the best I could think of unless you want to argue perhaps the current west. west of the last 8 years

@Shawn Kemp Well that's mostly because of this Michael Jordan Guy, but out side of the Bulls is there really a team you can look at and say that is one of the greates teams of all time the same way you can for the 83 76ers, 86 Celtics, or the 89 Pistons? Maybe the Knicks, or Magic, but both failed to win a championship which really holds them back. Part of greatness is being competitive Jordan dominating is awesome, but there were only a select few times he was really challenged in the playoffs as the Bulls was always the favorite to win every year they won

    • @Professional_Dirtbag_Hippie
      @Professional_Dirtbag_Hippie 5 лет назад +5

@Shawn Kemp So your saying that not only are the 90s Knicks and Magic better than the Fo Fo Fo 76ers who swept the Show time Lakers, the 63 win Bad Boy Pistons who swept the Show Time Lakers, but also the 86 Celtics possibly the greatest team of all time? So if you want to say that the Knicks got unlucky with calls and suspensions fine, but can you really say that that makes them one of the greatset teams of all time? And yes you are right basically no one could guard Shaq, but that doesn't mean his teams were unbeatable who on the Jazz guarded Shaq in 97 or 98 when the Lakers lost in 5 and 7 respectively? Who guarded Shaq on the Spurs in 99 or 03 when the Lakers got swept and lost in 6 respectively? So Shaq is not an instant win every time, because I think Robert Parish would have a much better time stopping Shaq than Greg Foster, Greg Ostertag, or a 33 and 37 year old David Robinson.

I don't want to argue that it's better/greater since it's so early in the season but this years Western Conference has been amazing so far. All of the teams except the Suns have a realistic shot of making it to the playoffs and can end anywhere between 2 and 14. All of those 14 have their own brand of basketball and narrative as well; Warriors with perhaps the greatest team of all time once Cousins comes back, Nuggets with a Center as their primary facilitator, Kings finally being exciting again, Mavs with Luka and incredible potential, Jazz with their Defensive identity, Grit & Grind of the Grizzlies, ISO game of the Rockets, Lakers very little 3 pointers and a rapid paced transition, Wolves with all the off-court drama and so on.... Every Western game is exciting to watch since its a clash of basketball styles and 1 win can move you 4 spots in the rankings! I don't think I've ever enjoyed a regular season so much!
