I usually like Matt's reviews, but come on! We had had several Yaris in the family over the years, I just drove my wife's back from town. Dead easy to drive smoothly, brake smoothly and no tyre squeal on roundabouts. It's a bit noisy on coarse surfaces, not bad on the motorway. As a runabout and moderately long trip car it is fantastic. Light controls, easy to park (reversing camera standard - not like my BMW) and lots of safety kit. Toyotas are dead reliable as a rule, this one a 1.33VVTi does mid to high forty/gallon. I would agree that the lack of a movable boot floor is weird, the lack of rear door bins poor, as is the lack of a seat back pocket, but the odd storage holes work fine in practice. I never have trouble with MY humus salad :-) and with a five year warranty and for what we paid for it, it is great value for money.
You might moan about the "quality" but I bet you it will look and work exactly they same in 20 years time which is something you wouldn't bet on the likes of a Bentley. I think we need to define more accurately what we call "quality".

I was surprised by the final verdict considering how negative the entire review was! One point I would like to make is that the Yaris in its current format is sold all around the world and only EU journos are obsessed with soft plastics and perceived quality! Why should Toyota waste their money just to please them when they can concentrate their efforts on actual quality and reliability. Anyway, I am personally fond of this car not because its the best or worst in class but because I rented one on a winter holiday in Iceland and it coped admirably well with the snow despite its skinny all weather tyres, totally dependable, 8/10 from me.

The car was rusting in many different places. All my family drive Honda or Toyota,s now, very rare we get a problem

Okay that is fine. But for me I want more than just reliability. It needs good looks inside and out, have plenty of tech and a punchy engine (at least 0-100 under 10 seconds). This has none of that for me. As long as a car has average reliability I am fine with it. I am interested in Toyota, but most of their cars just seem kind of dull sadly. The new corolla seems promising though.

UK has a stupid way of keeping the lights on the left in a right hand drive car i have no idea why. The reason the indicators and lights are on the left of the steering column is because of EU regulations. The EU won't make an exception for Britain even though we drive on the left. Previously all British cars had indicators on the right so the driver's left hand wasn't doing everything. Bring on Brexit.

Unlike some other "fancy" super equipped systems out there that never re-connects your bluetooth now and then..or looses you contact information all of the sudden...or the navigation sends you weird ways...etc...this one just simply works brilliantly..
I agree Pe - it is a great little car, it just works well and £ for £, € for € it is as good value as my BMW. It consistently meets (or exceeds) our expectations. When you consider how much it cost, it is going to have some nasty plastics in place, and the seat/trim colours could be brighter, or you could buy a German brand that is also black inside, with black plastic and a big step into the boot..............for twice the money
Toyota is a firm that is just sensible. It understands what the average person wanting a Yaris cares about and gives it to them. Granted they aren't the most exciting/innovative etc, but it doesn't mean Toyota isn't capable. It just plays safe. That said I wish this was updated under the TNGA, considering this is among the brand's most popular vehicles. Maybe then it would spark some life.
Toyota Yaris has been announced as most reliable car in uk. Yet this idiot just criticises it to death. Calm down fella, people buying in this range aren’t looking for all these nit pick shit u on about. I’ve had one for 5 years as a second car and I haven’t found any of these points he makes an issue. Bottom line is that it’s a great little city car and it’s more reliable than the “fun to drive” fiesta which came very low down on the reliability list. Choice is yours.
This is just so out of date now. They can change the bumpers and lights as often as they want, doesn't change it being way out of line compared with the current rivals.
I have a recommendation for automakers. If they are going to give you a budget car why don't they eliminate things instead of putting crappy ones instead? Its a great car and if mine got stolen today i would def buy another one. Btw, the infotainment just WORKS! (typical Toyota i guess) yes its not fancy and no its not the most equipped system out there. But it IS super intuitive and most importantly: it WORKS! Its not very well featured, but the features it has just simply works, every. Time. Period. Unlike some other "fancy" super equipped systems out there that never re-connects your bluetooth now and then..or looses you contact information all of the sudden...or the navigation sends you weird ways...etc...this one just simply works brilliantly..
It just shit plastic everywhere but hey if that's what you like and can afford why not
@@rickyhernandez6195 LOL
Brilliant ? It's a piece of shit.
Good little car the replacement 1.5 engine is a lot better, great engine, smoother and bit quicker 👍
This thing makes my Honda Jazz look exciting
This is just so out of date now. They can change the bumpers and lights as often as they want, doesn't change it being way out of line compared with the current rivals.
I have a recommendation for automakers. If they are going to give you a budget car why don't they eliminate things instead of putting crappy ones instead? Just have a touchscreen with android auto and apple car play and don't have anything about maps or crap like that, easy way to save money and save your customer from some painful and unnecessary headaches
I have exactly this car and I really enjoy driving it ! My 1.3 petrol engine 99hp is smooth, does the job and is overall quiet. I recommend without hesitation ! :) #JapaneseQuality
do you have the icon tech?
Is it a 5 gear?
Matt, who ever shakes the centre console like that? 😂😂😂
Did the guy just recommended a Fiesta?! The one that is closing the plants for not selling there cars?! The one every mechanic shop loves?!
Yeah the same ones with the Eco Boost engines with coolant problems.
The ones with automatic transmissions and class action lawsuits?
Why the hate on the Toyota Yaris I believe your getting a massive bang for your bang
The hell is that design??
You design the car with one hand as you play thumb wrestling with a sumo.
A remake of a remake. This is the 2005 model that they redesigned and ruined 10 times in a row.
Take a look at Asia Yaris, much better
@@AmongUs-mb4qx Drunken design = No design at all, horrendous car in every aspect.
I love the design. No idea why people hate it. I am not sure I would buy one but I have driven a lot of them as rent a cars and they were very relaxing cars to be in.
This is such a fun little car, drove my aunty's 2016 hybrid recently. It felt like a go-kart
0:09 Why? 😢
I come here for the great car reviews. I stay because of the vegetable dip ideas.
you were being very harsh to the toyota :(
I love the Yaris.
My 08' never let me down and just basic maintenance in it's 114,000 mile lifespan. A manual transmission is a must though.
I agree. Strangely picky review. A lot of nonsense really. Not an objective review at all.
My first car I bought was Yaris
@@brog534 how was it?
No one asked
I especially like the debris hoover on the front end, sucking up all the leaves for better aerodynamics! smart
I've the 2009 Yaris. Honestly? Not the best car I've ever had, but believe me when I say that I did 570 km with only 20/25 litres of diesel. It's not a wow car, but economic AF! 😂😂🙌🏻
I've just bought this car second hand I'm happy enough ☺️

This comment needs more attention
The back seat flat floor really provide freedom to legs and it is a no cost luxury.
A rather fine looking car!
Matt Watson my favorite RUclipsr ❤️ ❤️ ❤️
That explains their new slogan.
"Toyota: Have Some Hummus."
Very nice car.. I like this Toyota yaris 👍👍👍
Why is Every car compared to a Racing car. If you drive at Speed Limits you’d never worry about screeching anything. Going around a roundabout like a maniac would squeal any cars tires.
A Dacia Sandero is better in every mean. And cheper.
and james may loves it
@@vlip8334 dacia what a stupid brand its also too cheap and so hideous not every one needs a sport car btw
@@carholic-sz3qv it was just an example from the other side as the main comment was complaining about the comparison with sport cars. I drove a rental Sandero recently and it looked sturdier and the infotainment was more responsive. It also had alot of space in the language compartment. I don't know why you would name it a stpid brand. In germany they sell very well. .
Domy Do When people are ignorant they use words like “Stupid” it reflects off themselves for not knowing the rest of the information and to lazy to look it up before they speak.
Lol I died when the vegetables came out 😂😂
There are people who care about 2 things: Reliability and cheap maintenece. They are the same people who buy Toyota. Nobody gives a s**t about touch screen and acceleration. I`m one of them. I don`t need cutting edge voice commands. All i want is a cd
Agree and happy enough using Bluetooth.
In had one of these for ten years (12 reg) It never ever went wrong, ever. Just looking at a newer one (icon tech) Perfect town car and odd long journey...
2:15 that’s what she said
For some parts, I thought I was watching a bad comedy sketch by the way of presenting a car review.
I fkin broke down when he started eating a salad in the car 😂😂😂😂😂😂
It's not a bad compact car, I have one in South Africa, I'm surprised this video is out so late when i have my Yaris for 1 and half years. Perfect car for campus. Unfortunately South Africa late switched to the Asian model yaris which I personally don't like due to quality issues.
perfect vehicle for pizza delivery job
Tim Wynn or uber
@@JDMHaze god no, your passengers would not be very happy
@@Ross6041 You will sit pretty good in the back seat of a new Yaris if you are only two people. Wouldnt be any problem.
3:34, thats because the NAV and the infotaiment itself isnt the same box, its two different boxes, so it switches inputs, its slow AF, but thats what its doing.
And 8:04, to be fair, same does the Polo... Same interior trim thats visible from the outside with the window down.
why the hell the south east asian market doesn't get this kind of Yaris? instead we got a bigger Yaris with a weird face lol
We called it yaris lele. Lele means catfish. Just looked at the grille.
@@yodaeee The new one is called Joker not Lele. Lele is the pre-refresh version.
@@yodaeee and the newest one, Yaris Joker, because the grille looks like Joker's mouth
Southeast Asian market Yaris has always been awkward. If you had the previous gen's grill in matte silver finish it looks like it has a mustache.
@@yodaeee in our culture, Lele means something else...Its penis. Lele means penis
When is the new one coming out? In Asia, the Yaris is bigger and looks better, which is a surprise.
Man, people should treat food with more respect. It is honestly sad to see this from Mat.
Karnold Pelegrino well deserved.
Yes, a pig died for that sandwich
2 days and I turn 17, this will be the car I learn in!
Who else is waiting for the 3-Series BMW review ? lol
Can’t wait for your review on the new yaris
