Had the newest Corrola Hybrid with every optional extra you can have as a company car for about two years. Lane assist is actively trying to kill you. It would just randomly jerk you of road. What I would do, because it is active every time you start a car is that I would switch on and off cruse control and than would somehow switch off lane assist. Keep in mind that I had that car in Sweden with every road I have driven it had markings on tarmac

B mode in Toyotas is ONLY for descending mountain passes or steep descents.
It should never be used during normal driving.
I own a Hybrid Toyota. You can read it in the user manual.
It does not regenerate much more energy. Instead it uses engine brake to slow you down. That is the only purpose

    • @exileatsushi7165
      @exileatsushi7165 4 месяца назад +39

Yes, I confirm, B mode should not be used for cruising in town, it's not a regen mode. its sole purpose is usage of engine brake (for downhill slopes when battery is full). Matt should have used the D mode instead and does not use regen braking, which is the mode you are supposed to use 99% of the time.

I have had my Yaris Cross for just over a year. It is nice to drive (better than you might imagine) and frugal on petrol. Cold weather affects the main battery, so restricts fuel consumption, but I have never had below 60 mpg and 70+ is not unusual, even in British summer.
Road noise can be a bit intrusive, especially given the appalling state of Britain's roads, but the real bugbear with the car is the 12 volt battery that runs the tech that operates the doors, the alarm, the parking brake, etc and most significant, the ability to start the car.
If you take extra long holidays or use the car infrequently, the battery will lose its charge and becomes immobile. You can't even push it because of the electronic parking brake. There is a jump start point in the fuse holder under the bonnet, but my recommendation, if you buy one of these cars (and I believe the same problem occurs with other hybrids and EVs) and use it infrequently, is to buy a solar charger. Amazon, for example, will sell you the AA Solar Charger, which plugs into the EOBD socket, under the dashboard above the brake pedal, for under £30.

    • @StayReal02

The one thing i loved the most that from 2016 till 2024 there was ZERO issues with the car and i mean it. Literally nothing to repair besides general stuff like oil, filters and break pads. I have the 2024 Yaris Cross Excel fully loaded. I previously had a 2020 Yaris 1.0l petrol manual (Awesome car and wish I had not sold it). The Yaris Cross is fantastic for around town and fuel consumption around town and on A-roads is often in excess of 70mpg. On numerous occasions I have had 80mpg and even 90+mpg for journeys of 20 - 25 miles. Motorway driving is always 65mpg +. It is unbelievably cheap to run petrol wise. My Toyota dealer in Croydon is fantastic for servicing. A really slick experience all around. The Excel version has an auto parking feature and surround view. The auto parking is utterly amazing. It feels weird though letting go of the wheel. The Excel also has other safety features when pulling out or reversing out of a driveway that warns you of pedestrians and cars. It really works and is superb. The jury is out on the adaptive cruise control. For me even when setting on maximum distance I always feel it is too close to the car in front at higher speeds on the motorway so I rarely use this feature. Lane assist is good too. You can feel the wheel tugging if you stray without indicating. The visibility out of the back window is limited. I like a car with a lot more glass and thinner pillars personally but the safety features on the car compensate for this limited view (ie blind spot monitoring). This being my first (small) SUV, I personally would go back to the Yaris rather than the Yaris Cross. Slightly narrower and shorter and better suited to driving in Greater London. I also prefer the lower driving position. The boot is a decent size. We use for 2 Brompton bikes and then there is room for a suitcase as well. From a driving perspective it is as easy as it gets. Switch it on, put in drive and drive. The hold feature is brilliant and being a hybrid no changing gear all the time in traffic. It's a fantastic car but on occasions I yearn for my manual. I feel there is a little more connection when you have to use the gears manually. One bug bear is the single USB in the front. It would cost nothing to have multiple USB's. My experience of Toyota's in the last 4 years has been entirely positive. If I had to buy a car for my son who has passed his test, I would plumb for a standard Yaris with some of the extras like all round camera's and parking feature. If you have never had a Toyota or hybrid then give it a go. Just look around you when you are out driving. Every time you see a broken down car, make a note of the brand. Toyota's are everywhere. The car of choice for Uber drivers. They are literally driving all day. You'll hardly ever see a broken down Toyota if ever but you will see plenty of premium German cars waiting for a breakdown truck. I simply would not even look at another manufacturer next time I buy (Perhaps Honda).

Ive just swapped in my 10 year old Auris Hybrid for the YARIS Cross as I wanted slightly higher seating position. I loved the Auris but it did roar a bit when accelerating. I expected the newer Yaris to be quieter but it isnt. Also the roar comes from the back of the car rather than under the bonnet which is taking time to get used to. Its a similar sound to the rasberry noise you get when your exhaust blows. I use ECO mode, EV will only work up to 20 mph then the engine cuts in. Its a lovely ride. Feels like its driving itself, very smooth. Heavily tinted rear windows are dark to see through. Not sure if that was standard tint as I bought it 3 months old and had a previous owner. Its the ICON and delighted it has keyless entry. Reversing camera. Im adding parking sensors . Could see no advantage in paying 2/3k more for Design. Still undecided if I should have got the Corolla for better visability and more interior space.

Test drove the Toyota Premier, top of the range, Yaris Cross against the Nissan Juke N Sport hybrid.
The more powerful motor in the Premier was a huge improvement over the older115 BHP.
Interior was poor compared to Juke which was more solid, better seats, much better digital dashboard, storage (surprisingly large glove box, centre armrest cubby) , infotainment (the around view camera was a fuzzy affair compared to the crisp screen on the Nissan) , ergonomics (the camera button and several others are hidden under the right hand side dash, I had to open the door in order to see them 😀) etc.
Expected the Jukes 19 inch wheels (why Nissan?) to be awful and was pleasantly surprised by the better ride and body control.
Toyota 10-15mpg better than the Nissan, as well as other positives like roof rails, powered tailgate, warranty, sun roof option, through load and centre cup holders etc.
In the end the Juke just seemed like a larger more solid, planted on the road car that I would rather spend time in, showing the importance of long test drives. 👍

There's almost no point of the verdict is there? Almost all cars fall into shortlist 😅

It seems that the seats come from the previous Toyota CHR model and have some play in the floor rails from the factory, which they can't manage to fix. Additionally, these seats tend to be very uncomfortable, especially in the seating area.

I was a passenger in an older version of this car and didn't have a great experience. While the newer model might have some improvements, in my case, the transition between electric mode and the engine was quite rough. Accelerating quickly from a standstill caused noticeable shaking, and the pickup for highway merging was underwhelming, even with the electric motor's assistance. Additionally, when driving on the motorway, the car felt like it wanted to roll around corners, especially in the back seats. It doesn’t seem well-suited for highway driving and requires a cautious and easy approach in the city. Having been in other Toyota hybrids before, I expected better from this one. Personally, I don't see the appeal of these crossovers and think the standard Yaris Hybrid would be a better option.

Last years model, manual with only petrol engine. Similar experience although it does ok job, nothing glamorous though. Cross is better for shitty roads, parking on curbs and gravel... basically a normal non-western Europe experience xD

you were a passenger but you're talking like you were the driver? are you a VW dealership? can you give Toyota 10 year warranty too

@@lemcakes32422 Hey look, you don't have to get all defensive. I was just sharing my personal experience, and I know it might not be the same for everyone. Whether I was a passenger or the driver shouldn't really change the perspective I was giving. I totally get that for most people, these things might not be a big deal and that it's a perfectly good car-after all, they wouldn't sell so many if it wasn't! I was just saying that, in my opinion, it doesn't quite feel like a driver's car, and I expected a bit more since it's a Toyota. No hard feelings!

@@mkristoficit's is a Yaris on stilts. Why would it be a drivers car with the expectation of a comfort from an Audi A4?

It used to be my family car.
Easy to drive, have a simple centre console, got good mileage, and well designed. What I don’t like about it is such as, rear seats are bit small and won’t be reclined to the fullest, though these are not big deals.
Overall, it’s the most cost efficient car of all other similarly sized vehicles.

Hard plastic at touch points ? Dark miserable interior and a CVT gearbox. No thanks

It's actually not a CVT, contrary to what Mat said. It's an eCVT, and despite the name, it couldn't be more different. The toyota eCVT is rock solid reliable, apparently.

e CVT is different with CVT. similiar power delivery tough, but more reliable than regular cvt

It's an eCVT, with power split device, a completely different system from a CVT.
Yes the old Toyota hybrid has an actual CVT, but the modern one doesn't.

The extra sound isolation only comes with the 130hp version, not with the 116hp. It was said by a Toyota distributor.

Quick release seats are not good. They make it much harder, not to mention dangerous to adjust your seat on the move. A ratchet system gives you infinitesimal adjustment.
