I bought one with a 6 speed manual transmission. I am very happy with the car. 40 mpg with gas up at $5 + a gallon is a godsend! Just a good, honest and simple vehicle. I think it was a mistake for Toyota to drop it from their lineup. We need more cars like this.

I literally fill up the car once a month. Epic MPG. If anyone has one, and the factory tires go bad, get the 185/60R26 Yokohama Ascend GT. I got 3.4 mpg upgrade just from changing tires.

Had the Yaris iA for a couple years and........ I miss that dopey slow car. I had just as much fun with it on the street as I did with my (former) 17' Mustang GT and 17' Camaro SS. The body roll. The peppy engine. The feeling of a nimble 2,300 lb car that, at best, puts down around 87hp to the wheel... It's the kinda car you can fling around corners, drive aggressively while averaging 40mpg, and feel like you're breaking every law out there only to look down and realize that you haven't even reached the legal speed limit yet.. :D Alas, it has a look that only a mamma whale can love.

87 hp? My Scion iQ is 94 hp there’s no way the car that replaced it as the Scion iA is only 87hp especially being a rebadged Mazda 2 and a larger car. Don’t get me wrong I throw my iQ around corners and it does great on the highway especially for being only a foot longer than a Smart car so I don’t doubt the iA is just as good but there’s no way it’s slower than the iQ.

People needs to stop saying it’s slow cause it’s not a race car. I drove it to New York and back home still have gas left. When I drove my 4 cyl suv it took more gas and I had to stop for gas on my way back. I enjoy driving it more it just more responsive and fun to drive.

I have a 2010 Yaris. Not fancy, but loads of head and leg room (two big selling points for me-I'm 5'10" and am sick of being squished sitting in more expensive cars) and still going strong. My insurance rates are low (who'd want to steal a Yaris?), great gas mileage, and it doesn't spend a lot of time in the repair shop. One down point for many people, I do have to use my eyes, ears, and brain when driving it. There aren't any computer controlled gadgets. I have to check for my mirrors when passing, look behind me and around when backing up, and I have to gauge the distance of the car in front. You definitely have to use your be on your toes. The car doesn't do all the thinking and driving. I love it.

Whereas the Mazda powertrains have been tried and proven now, bulletproof 6-speed transmissions and engines. The CX-3 has actually been rated as one of the most reliable cars because of the non-existant issues with it - and that car is basically a Mazda 2. And if you're still in doubt look at the older Scion iA or Yaris iA, you won't find that they had any issues with them.

That outs this car at roughly $250 to $277 a month depending on milage. 0 down with only the 1st month down, tax, tag, title. Go up to the camry and pay the extra 30 a month. I don't know. This car is small lacks the get up power to merge on highways should you have two passengers. It's a good NYC or crowded city car. But In States like Texas Florida etc etc. You need a car with more substsnce. Better sound insulation and more power.

I love your honest reviews. Really wish Toyota had kept the sedan body style as an option for the Yaris. Some folks like the security offered by a lockable trunk. Also, no turbo-charged option? The biggest competitor for the Yaris is going to be the Chevy Sonic. At least on the LT RS trim, Chevy offers a turbo. It may not look impressive with a 0-60 time of 8.5 seconds, but that's definitely better than over 10 seconds for the Yaris. I love the front-end looks of the Yaris, but in the sub-compact class you have better options for the money.
Also.... Not even a folding arm-rest?? Even a Chevy Sonic offers a basic folding arm-rest for the driver. Yaris has Push-button Start but no arm-rest. I don't get that. Makes no sense.

Bought a Toyota Yaris from Motor World (Wilkes Barre), got a good price on the car, and it has been a wonderful little get around car. It is comfortable, easy to get around in, excellent for shopping and great fuel economy. Put it in the sport position, and the car changes attitude, it wants to move, now if I need something bigger, well my Toyota Tacoma handles that, I have liked Toyota's since 1977, but found out the only thing that destroys Toyota's more then anything is other drivers on the road. One other best car I have owned was the Ford Fiesta, and had a GMC truck during that time. the GMC truck quit at about 124,000 but the best truck I ever had was a Ford Ranger, it gave out at 348,000 and sort of happy that if finally died, the seats gave out at about 220,000 miles. Yes, I am one of those guys that drives a car until the wheels fall off or until someone hits and destroys it.

There are several pluses you mentioned with this being a rebadged Mazda. The six speed traditional automatic vs. a CVT (amazing to find on a small car these days) and Mazda's emphasis on handling. Some bemoan the fact that they don't think it will have Toyota quality and reliability, but I've owned several Mazdas in the 2000s and they had quite reliable drivetrains. Plus the interiors and paint held up very well after years sitting in the California sun. If they're still that good I wouldn't worry.

Sometimes I wonder why collaborations between companies, like the Isuzu original Honda Passport, and the two series of FWD Chevy Novas, that were actually Toyota Corollas. But Mazda seems to have increase quality and reliability, as opposed to Nissan, and having a non CVT automatic transmission, and their good handling, it's a plus.
