  • We changed the oil, oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, gasoline and the battery on the Volvo 850, to try to start it up for the first time in seven years. She really needed some maintenance!
    - Project’s Background Story -
    On February 21 ’09 our dad bought this ’96 Volvo 850 2.5L 20V estate.
    He always maintained the car accordingly and had many parts replaced. Luckily, the full documentation is still with the car and only a month before passing away in December ‘11 he put on the winter tires himself.
    The Volvo has a big emotional value for me personally as I drove it with him on his final journey. Seeing the car sitting still for so many years and watching nature taking over broke my heart.
    Now after nine years I finally got my hands on the car and brought it back to it's home where me and my youngest brother will restore it to its former glory and make our old man proud.
    We intend to make a road trip once it is restored and keep it in the family for as long as we can.
    - General Information -
    We intend to document the whole restoration for ourselves, for people close to us so they can follow our progression and for other people interested in restoring cars or specifically a Volvo 850.
    We are new to shooting video’s and editing so please bear with us while we learn!

    My 1995 850 wagon was in the shop for 14 years on a lift. After we pulled it down I acid washed the tank, replaced the fuel pump, injectors and fuel filter and it started right up. It’s been running fine now for 2 years. I’ve owned it since new.

      The 850's got a steel tank on them as never had a 850 only Phase 1 V70's and they plastic with steel straps...

    I was always taught to connect the live on a battery, then the negative to stop arcing.
    I always pre fill the new oil filter with new oil to speed up oil circulation on start, to stop metal grinding for the first few engine revolutions as the filter fills.

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  2 года назад

      Absolutely right about connecting the positive side first on the battery. Mistakes happen I guess😅 we'll pay more attention the next time😊
      I was tought filling the oil filter does not really matter as there is still oil left in the engine. It does make sense though. Might as well do that the next time. Thanks 🙂

    • @Twobarpsi
      @Twobarpsi Год назад +1

      It really doesn't matter. If it's going to arc, it will regardless of which side is connected first.

    • @Britainsgamers
      @Britainsgamers Год назад

      pre filling the filter is recommended against in most manuals because of introducing a higher risk of contamination of particulates to the engine, lies maybe; but its recomended against

      @@MusTRitch Turned out the car was way too far gone. Did not take it, mold, Rats had been under the hood, parked for over ten years. Too much to list which also discouraged me. Sticking to my two 240 wagons for now

    I just looked at one of these an awd wagon and wouod start and stall right away swapped fuel pump relay and ran fine. Relay box was full of water and relay was corroded. They left the hood partially popped for a year and hood is what seals around fuse/relay box.

    Why do Dutch people always love Volvo's? Greetings from your southern neighbour.

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  2 года назад

      Lol, good question. Maybe it has something to do with Volvo taking over the passenger car division from DAF in 1975, and therefore we feel some kind of "dutch" connection with Volvo. Other than that, I have no idea 🤪

      @@MusTRitch No problem! I waited way too many years before installing my own. When you take out the original from the 850 you will notice a thick plastic semi circle that was added by manufacture. Possibly to tame the reponse for it's initial "target audience" back in the 1990's. My wagon is a 5 speed manual and it did make a small but well noticed difference.(along with new exhaust)

    • @MusTRitch
      @MusTRitch  2 года назад

      Yeah, I noticed that thick plastic thing. Maybe the reason for it is indeed the target audience at the time but still I wonder why... lol.
