My nerdy ass loves the Japanese mythology the game is drenched in. There's just so many youkai, gods, important figures, and stories that the game features, even if only for a moment sometimes. Care like that hasn't been used often, like... God of War recently did well with bringing the mythos to life, but many times it's just the names or maybe one single story, isolated from the greater mythos.

I suspect one of the reason it wasn't talked about much when it came here would be the cutesy nature of the characters, that and how much culture is presented in the game.

I find it staggering how not just the AVGN but James and Mike themselves have yet to cover so many SNES,GENESIS, NES titles let alone dare touch the likes of PS1,N64, and the later generations. They've been doing this for quite a while and there are just so many more games that I'd love their take on: Mystical Ninja, Gargoyle's Quest, Ristar, Illusion of Gaia, The Magical Quest, and so on. They've far from exhausted the library of games.

It's amazing how a lot of SNES games aged so well. Chrono Trigger, for example, is still gorgeous to this day. So is this game.

Rocky is not a raccoon actually.
    it's a Tanuki!
It's both real animal, and mystic entity in Japan.
This gave Nintendo the idea to Mario the power to become
a Zizo statue in Super Mario Bros 3.

I played that game when I was a child (I think I exchange it for some game I had, for a few days) and what caught my attention, was how the music was heard, has a quality and sound very different from the snes games , like it was with other elements (I know he doesn't use any extra chips, but I was impressed with what he could hear on the console.)
    Greetings from Chile.
