He really does have an inordinate amount of chandeliers if you think about it. It's kind of absurd.

Those are candelabra, chandeliers are the ones that hang from the ceiling.

I was thinking subweapons could be used but yeah there are NO subweapons just laying around on the floor.
It makes me think about how irrational it is that they are hiding inside candlesticks.
I mean the hearts are sort of an abstraction I guess. But pulling out an axe from inside a candle stick is a bit WTF.

My guess is the audio was completely blown out and distorted. Need some compressor/limiters on those audio channels specifically for Mike's deaths, lol. These are the best parts of his streams.

Sucking your teeth always makes jumps better with 8/16bit gaming
for me that trick even works with current games
And moving the controller in the direction you wish to move faster is always helpful

It would've been hilarious if there was a platformer on the Wii where the remote sensors actually sliiightly influenced the jumping distance and direction, if it was held or moved in a certain way, but with the player not being aware of it. :P
Also don't forget yelling at the tube TV
Not gonna lie, a video of James talking about the mythological and classic movie origins/inspirations for the Castlevania game monsters would be incredibly fun and interesting.

I can kind of see where he was coming from. When I read the challenge, I was assuming he'd be able to use subweapons. Unfortunately you have to use the whip to get them.

On the third level, if you go close enough to have the edge of the screen right next to the little monkeys on the platforms, by going backwards, they can die by disappearing in fact. It's a little bit technical but possible. But I don't know how you would stay alive on the long road with the birds dropping the monkeys on level 4, especially with the dragons holding the doors!
Megaman 2: no megabuster until boss
Contra: no power ups
Radracer: play in 3d mode no 3d glasses
Sonic 2: no charge spin
Zelda 2: no leveling up sword
Gyromite: play game with R.O.B.
GyroMurphy, these are pretty good challenges! I've done Contra with no power ups. I usually beat it without dying, running through with the spread gun, but it's super challenging with no power up at all.
I'm definitely down for that megaman 2 challenge
It’s not like you’d have much choice with the Mega Man 2 challenge when you get to the Boobeam Trap…

I recommend Ceave Gaming. It's a pretty fun Mario-heavy channel with a couple no coin challenges.

If the game was self aware it would be wondering what the hell your problem was
It would be hard to do a no coin challenge unless you also memorized the location of all powerups (which is certainly not impossible but adds another wrinkle.

Wht does Mike keep getting hit by the Medusa boss instead of jumping over her when she's low enough? A little patience would stop him dying all those times. Example: 11:03
THANK YOU. Was wondering when someone was gonna mention this. It’s sad that how much mike plays this game or ANY NES games he can’t discern a simple Medusa boss pattern and give it a few hits and walk back to minimize the damage. James has never progressed past “standing in the same place hitting the shoot button as fast you can and never figuring out a boss’s pattern” but I’m surprised how little strategy mike uses.
@@frickinawesome What's there to be surprised about? These guys let even basic things slip by them ALL THE TIME. Mike somehow didn't even know that P-01 on your HUD means you have one extra life left... in a game they've been playing for over THIRTY YEARS.

I agree with you guys; that music at stage 7 is awesome. Fell in love with it after the AVGN episode. Perfect use of it, just fading in after the nerd says "I love it" then dies and says "well, I didn't say it would be easy".

I just had to try this out for myself! I’m surprised to say I actually made it to the Frankenstein Monster! It gets VERY difficult by stage 9 (3rd stage of the 3rd area).

I would love to watch a serious attempt at this challenge by the both of you. Watching the clutch jumps and making it by on the skin of your vampire killing teeth is intense and draws me in. I haven't yelled at my monitor like I have to this unless I'm playing a game myself!

I'm not saying you should abuse restore points on every jump or anything, but you could just play this on NES Classic and make a restore point at the beginning of each stage. Then, you could just get right back to it some other time.
