Personally waiting until the 16. They pushed out iOS 17.0.3 which they say fixes overheating, but the 3nm process could still be more efficient than it is. I think however, for those really due for a new phone it’s probably a decent choice.
Just wait to see how much they improve on the 16's. They'll find problems this year and make next year's models a nice refinement. I'm hoping for a 12 going to 13 situation.
I've done that with my ipad air 4, it works just OK except they still don't support multi monitor. It heated up a lot, I simply quit out of instagram and it fixed it. I also haven’t had that issue since. i could be wrong about this, but im pretty sure the pro line phones have had LTPO screens that go as low as 1 hz, not 10 as stated in the video since the iphone 14 pro line
Hearing Linus mention a possible thermal issue being caused by small factors in the assembly lines with China vs India made me remember the Samsung vs TSMC issues that the iPhone 6S had
For the battery test, they did not use RUclips video playback, they used a downloaded iTunes video though it does not state what the audio settings or brightness settings were, just that True Tone and auto brightness turned off
You should have tried and USB-C dock. I backed up my data via a type c dock from my old Pixel phone after smashed the display too many times. :D It did work. I think I can do it with my Samsung as well. So would be interesting to test an Iphone as a docked machine. Just an advice.

Two things to also note. The drop test showing the camera popping out. That was after the 3rd attempt, not the first. The MAX also has different chipset (A2?) vs the Pro. Meaning that your USB-C data transfer and battery charge will be noticeably faster on the Max.
The fact that the microphone and display through usb just worked instantly is amazing but the fact that a MOUSE worked is CRAZY. Makes you wonder of the possibilities of usb c on an iphone. eGPU? Would be very unpractical but dude imagine
apple uses usb 3 not thunderbolt for the phones, the egpu wont work due to the lack of pcie access (which would provide direct access to memory something they clearly dont want due to sideloading/hacking)

However, this does not stop me from criticizing every single company that decides to release a new phone that still doesn't have these features, including the phones that I buy. Nowadays, I go for the flagship phone that has the most features for a decent price. Last time I was looking for a new phone, I was deciding between Asus, Sony, and ZTE. You better believe that I criticize Asus or whichever company's phone I happen to be using every time they fail to include these awesome features. When I heard about the "action button," I immediately thought about the "Bixby button" on my Samsung phone, but I had the opposite reaction to Linus because the finger-scan button on my Samsung phone does single press, double-tap, and scan finger gestures, all of which can call up specific programs or do OS functions. (I think some of that is part of Samsung's Good Lock program, which adds a lot of other functionality too.) At any rate, Samsung's already got "next level" functionality which Apple seemed to think was good enough to copy. (That happens all the time. I'm not dissing Apple for recognizing a good thing and using it.) With all the varied concerns about "3rd Party" USB cables, it is good to see that Apple now has the same functionality as Android for using headphones, USB A, and video out using that USB-c connection. Having recently had to get an Apple-specific video adapter for someone else, being able to use what's already in my kit is great. Thanks for doing this feature review.
That's exactly my thoughts too. Plus Bixby can too some really advanced actions too. Then theres the single tap of the power button that can be reconfigured.

So what we need to see now is a usb C dock plugged in with KBM, monitor and wired networking.
I've done that with my ipad air 4, it works just OK except they still don't support multi monitor. But if you want to take notes, write a paper, web browse etc. in a more desktop setting, it's functional but not a true windows/macOS experience. Definitely more productive if you're trying to do actual work than using the touch interface.
I think that the usb c native accessories are the same ones that work with the lightning connector because you can just use a lightning connector to the usb a camera adapter to connect the device.
I read the title in an Indian accent
Woulda been nice to see if the ip15pm usb-c could output 120 hz 1080p. Would be cool to use with the xreal glasses and moonlight/nvidia gamestream now that they support 120hz.
same with iPadOS. still stuck in 60Hz when on external display (both on stage manager and mirrored). Also, maybe limited implementation of Stage Manager when connected to an external display on the next iOS update/iPhone? (e.g. only 2 apps at a time, and installing iPad version of an app to the iPhone to make it scale better on external screen)
Not going to happen. Apple would like to sell you a whole different device (laptop) instead.
@@kkshinichi fun fact: for the vast majority of apps, there is no iPadOS version, it's the exact same one as the iOS version, same installation file and every thing, so if Apple did decide to add stage manager to iPhone, you would already be able to run the "iPadOS version" of any app by default.

The enthusiasm on Linus' face when interacting with the action button is why I love LMG's content so much.

If I recall, you could remap the bixby button with a 3rd party app. And I definitely remember that you can remap double/long press of the power button to anything you want (in oneui at least).
yep an advantage of android, if some level of customisation isnt offered out of the box, you can bet someone will make an app for it. whereas apple users need to wait 8 years for apple to invent the functionality. i know id rather have half baked functionality tomorrow than fully baked functionality in 8 years.
Yes. I use double tap to open my Google Wallet. And the press, I changed it to power settings (never will I use bixby)

There is/was an official Apple lightning to HDMI converter and before that, even a 30 pin dock connector to HDMI dongle, I’ve had them for years, admittedly I only used them a couple of times on vacation, but Linus saying for old school iPhone reviews having easy HDMI would have been a game changer, just shows a lack of knowledge somewhere in the production chain. Yeah, missed opportunity. Would have been cool to see them drop it in a docking cradle and essentially turn it into an iOS "desktop computer".
12:05 It says video playback, not RUclips playback which would use more battery as it’s streaming the video
Good catch, it was probably measured playing local files in ideal conditions.
Last year, I upgraded from the iPhone 7 to the XS, while my kids went from X to 13 Pro. I hate the weight of their phone.
I was considering the 13 Mini when my XS stops getting the latest iOS (guessing this time next year) but, with the new Pros getting a lighter weight frame, that idea might now be redundant.
Thanks for the vid!
i could be wrong about this, but im pretty sure the pro line phones have had LTPO screens that go as low as 1 hz, not 10 as stated in the video since the iphone 14 pro line
This is correct yes.

Short Circuit isn't a review: they're an unboxing channel.
They been doing "lite reviews" for a long time though. They gather hard data about devices before they get on camera, and they've already unboxed the device at least once before filming. It's not an unboxing channel anymore. It's the review channel.

Bixby button was easily remappable with an app tho. I wont even be surprised if Apple lock down third party devs from accessing the action button to customize it further.
Ok but it’s ridiculous that a third party developer had to make the button mapping good
After a year of so of backlash from the customers...
third party devs can access it if their app is open onscreen, or provide shortcuts for the user to map the action button to.

Linus, HDMI adapters have been around for the lightning port literally since iPhone 5s. I've had one for like a decade... Oh, and they made lightning to VGA as well.
But with USB-C you can use any random USB-C adapter, not something "certified" by Apple. Options are literally endless.
I think you guys always put WAYYY too much focus on gaming on phones and believe a MUCH higher percentage of people actually base their purchasing on game performance.
Linus on previous video : i don't review phones anymore 😮
Literally hour later: I'm disappointed with the iPhone only for click bait others
Disappointed that you didn't try multi-gigabit ethernet adapter.
Two things to also note. The drop test showing the camera popping out. That was after the 3rd attempt, not the first. The MAX also has different chipset (A2?) vs the Pro. Meaning that your USB-C data transfer and battery charge will be noticeably faster on the Max.
And it was a glass phone dropped from 20 feet onto stone ffs 😂
I think the drop immediately before it was 15 feet up - never gonna happen IRL

So, what Phone do you use, as most modern Phone don't do that.
@@lupolinar An LG V60 that's on its last leg lmao. And, today, there's just no alternative to it - if you're into these sorts of hardware features, you can only downgrade from here.
Before LG(had the V20, V30, and V60; far from perfect but killer hardware), my preferred brand was HTC. Who also had nice phones and did some against-the-grain stuff. Who also quit the phone business because it was like me and two other people buying them. Ugh.
@@lupolinar You're right, most modern phones don't have all of those features, and neither does mine. I have the ZenFone 8, which only has the headphone jack of the features I mentioned, which is the most important of the 3 to me. To my knowledge, basically zero modern smartphones have replaceable batteries (really looking forward to seeing the EU's laws bring this back) and only some mid-range or budget phones have microSD card slots, and I guess Sony's flagships still have them.
Next time I shop for a phone, I will likely be deciding between the same companies, since they seem to be the only ones I can think of that release flagship phones that still have features. You better believe that I criticize Asus or whichever company's phone I happen to be using every time they fail to include these awesome features.
It would be a dream come true if the EU made a few more consumer tech laws mandating expandable storage like microSD card slots as well as wired audio solutions like 3.5 mm headphone jacks.
so far I've found several totally legit USB-C cables that are capable of fast charging on Android phones that iPhone 15 Pro simply reject. As in, you plug it in and no charge happens!
I still can’t believe people with a 3 or 4 year old iphone run out and needlessly upgrade then complain when they realize not much has changed. They’re meant to last much longer than that. Plus smartphone innovation has severely slowed down in the 20s. They’re definitely taking advantage of their customers stupidity.
I'm not dissing Apple for recognizing a good thing and using it.)
With all the varied concerns about "3rd Party" USB cables, it is good to see that Apple now has the same functionality as Android for using headphones, USB A, and video out using that USB-c connection.
Literally you are showing how iPhones are playing catch-up with Android phones 😂
End with the monitor reminds me of 2012, when I connected my ~200€ android device to my TV and used a bluetooth controller to play Shadowgun.
And now in 2023 people are hyped that a 1k+€ phone can finally do that.. what?!

Now try to change the buttons on the lockscreen or enable pocket mode, so your camera isn't turned on everytime you put it in your pocket.
Isn't "pocket mode" the standard for every smartphone? Not on IPhone?
You know there have been apps for Android that can rebind buttons for more than 10 years, right? The fact that you are amazed by the ability to rebind a button says quite a lot about what expectations Apple customers have :D This entire video is Linus being amazed by stuff Androids have been able to do since forever, what is going on.
You probably didn’t really get the point. It’s about this being implemented directly into iOS with this many features. iOS actually has quiet a lot of features that can be used with that.
You can use a kind of scripting language that can automate many different tasks for you
