I always find it funny how short the age of small, consumer digital cameras was thanks to smartphones.
Bro. I've been TRYING to find a camera that's as easy to carry around as a smartphone. All of the are just too thick to have in your pocket. Do you know of any?
It's quite sad how they were almost completely abolished in what felt like months. Though, I much prefer smartphones, and I'm glad they took over.
Haha remember the samsung s4 zoom? Dankpods should review it sometime
@tjheid5414 I'm genuinely curious why you want a small camera to put in your pocket, instead of just using your phone
Just get a Sony smartphone, they have lots of camera features@@tjheid5414

Because this is a real review. All big tech RUclipsrs are only doing product showcases
Lest be honest though the newest phones do far beyond what anyone needs. Unless your playing resident evil and capturing in their upgraded 4k, you can literally buy an iPhone 13 and get the exact same thing, if you want to do film buy a camera you can get more settings for less if you want to play high end games get an xbox or pc.
As a phone every day product their is no need for there newer phones so all the complaints are meaningless to the average person. Oh i can customise my app icons, who cares.

You know, this has got to be one of the most honest and relatable reviews of that phone.
All the other RUclipsrs go into deep detail about how each feature works and how it’s better or worse than last gen, yet here’s Wade just straight up telling it how it is.
Like a wise man's mother said: "use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without" literally we've come to the point where even a old flagship phone from 1 to 2 years is good enough.
Edit: i understand that people doesn't think the same about a 100$ phone
I wouldn’t go that far 😂
Yeah, no, not even close.
Maybe not $100 but probably around $300 or $400
@pablojams5152 I mean, a cheap phone can accomplish about 90% of a flagship, sure it would not have a amazing camera, screen or processor, but using it for social media like X, Facebook, Instagram, RUclips you can.
@@RealNaomiMizushima yeah, then say that lmao. “Rivaling” is a very specific term. Because you know what, a Chromebook can do 90% of what a $4000 gaming PC can do, but people don’t buy the gaming PC to browse the web and check emails. People buy flagship phones for the features that come with, typically
It’s funny that Apple tried using Titanium on the PowerBook G4 already, and it also had lots of issues with paint chipping.
20 years later the 15 pro max that’s made out of titanium…has the same problem. XD
Hopefully they switch back to Stainless Steel in a future Pro iPhone.
The G4 had it way worse. The new ones are way more durable.

I got a 13 Pro, not Max, specifically for the camera. The wide-angle lens nearly blew my mind and has fully replaced my old standalone camera with a proper wide-angle.
I'm going to be using that sucker for as long as possible, because the changes between phones are too incremental to go year-to-year.
i don't think Apple is expecting anyone to go year-by-year
The best part of them going full USB C is the new Airpods Pro 2 case
I miss my OG Razer Phone. It still performed great and took pretty good photos even with the software i was using. But sadly the first thing to kick you in the nuts these days is simply the battery. They'll only take so many charge cycles before they start to go bad.. and replacing them isn't all that easy.
Yup. I had it too. The speakers were incredible. I always had it on battery saver within the first month of having it.
Mine broke apart easily the 2nd one too
I literally had no idea about the stereo sound thing, I was so annoyed that my voice was always so loud when I was filming even if holding the camera far away from me and that sure fixed the problem lol
I was like “aww man he’s got like every recent generation accept for mine” (I have a 12 pro) and the he just added that little segment at the end and it made me so happy
The want vs need argument is very applicable to modern day phones. I have a phone from 2016 and it still can do pretty much everything I need to. Yeah I have to keep a charger in my car to keep it topped off on battery but by the time I’m done doing what I’m doing and go back to my car I can just plug it back in in-between destinations.
03:54 bro just called the phone I am using ancient 😭😭
Look at the weeweewee little camera bump 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That's how I felt about my iPhone 13 Mini, I loved that it fit in my hand so nicely while still having all the specs of the 13 but once I got it the happy stopped there. The camera quality was far worse than the X it replaced, it glitched way more, the keyboard would go nuts for no reason, it would slow down randomly and then start deleting music out of my library. Wasn't even mad when it met its untimely death after 8 months
I’d be mad about an 8 month lifespan. Consumerism tho I guess
Interesting my girlfriend has an iPhone 13 mini, she’s owned it for a while now. It is still fairly new though, But she has had no issues with the phones and she got it
@@SidewaysN Well to be fair I was the one who killed it after the 8 millionth time it glitched I threw it straight at the wall and it shattered into a bunch of pieces, it was fully insured and the mini was discontinued so I upgraded
I concur, for the most part. The biggest gripe with the mini series is the battery life. It is the biggest reason why I'd like to switch device. The glitchiness is probably due to poor iOS updates -- the same has happened to me and many others. They don't make `em like they used to...
@@jimmyjimjims7483What was the return window for the phone?
This is a really niche complaint that probably doesn’t apply to many people but I HATE the automatic macro mode on the pro models. I have an indie makeup instagram that requires a lot of photos of eyeshadows and swatches. When I got the 14 pro the macro mode totally destroyed my pictures like it was just way too over focused everything just looked washed out. I had to return it for the base 14 and now I’m on the 15 plus. I can’t go back to pro until the macro mode is gone or able to be turned off permanently.
This seems like a camera setting that should be adjustable though, have you looked for if it can be turned off?
You can turn that off in the camera app with that little flower icon that appears when iPhone thinks you want to take a macro shot
Its a setting in camera
The fact that smartphones haven't really changed all that much is why I haven't felt pressured to upgrade my Pixel 6. Hell, the only reason I moved on from my Pixel 3a XL was due to it falling apart. The 6 does everything I need it to and I have no reason to move on from it. It'd be nice to have a new phone, but I'm not that bothered.
I go 5 years between phones. The main thing I do is keep the apps to purely what I actually use. If its occasional I just install it when I need it that one time in the year then delete it again. I dont need it then running in the background all the while. Also battery charging. I never leave my phones charging overnight and only charge them to 90%. My Mate 10 Pro still had 90% battery life after 5 years! Just gone to a Nord 3. On the One+ forums its full of people moaning about the standby battery life. But mine sips power. I go to bed with 89% power and wake up in the morning with 88%. I bet there are 300 apps on those phones...all constantly phoning home with data.
Sounds about right. I had a pixel 1 til this year and the only reason I switched was because the battery was terrible (a fairly normal complaint for a phone that's 7 years old) and things were starting to lag out pretty bad (again. 7 years old.) And I love my 7a, the camera stuff is great or whatever but what I think what I really love about it is that it's not on the brink of death and it has the new android stuff (pixel 1 was still on android 10, because that was the last update it received). I love all the new accessibility stuff also, it's great.
Also rocking the Pixel 6 Pro, I love this phone! Camera is great, battery life gets me through the whole day without any problem. Connects flawlessly with my car and camera equipment. The screen is bright enough for mostly every weather. And the Pixel features are insane.
I mean the pixel 6 is barely 3 years old at this point and it has plenty of software support left
I've been pretty much entirely satisfied with my 6 Pro as well, buuuut the most recent Android 14 update locked me out of all my phone's storage in the primary profile along with at least 200 other Pixel owners and Google still hasn't publicly acknowledged this bug. It's really taken my esteem for the Pixel brand down a lot, seeing Google just sit on their hands about this.
5:57 yeah, that's definitely a feature, and it isn't new. My 12 Pro Max does it as well. I don't smooth-zoom though, just step between the zoom levels as radio buttons.
It makes sense to me. Switch to telephoto, you probably want to hear the sound coming from far away where the camera is pointed, so down mix audio from the front-facing mics.
You're right though. They should handle that more thoughtfully. Or give your multitrack audio and let you mix it yourself.
I love how dankpods makes his reviews because he does and show stuff that is genuinely practical or something we would actually do in our day to say life's n stuff. All in a funny aussie package.
Fellow RUclipsr here, I film all my content with iPhones, mainly on an iPhone X, yes, from 2017. I record all my audio afterwards on my iPhone 14 Pro. Thank you for telling me which settings to turn on and off, I know settings nearly by heart, but never understood what all those settings did.
So the Audio Zoom feature.. It records stereo in wide angle and when you zoom in it will use its "shotgun mic" to record sounds from far away.
Oh my god I was wondering why my 13 pro max was so terrible at capturing my voice unless I went into ultrawide! THIS is why! Turned that sucker off and now my voice is clear as day!
5:11 The way “record stereo sound” feature work is by amplifying the sounds coming from the area you are zooming into. Try to enable it and zoom into and out of a person while they are talking for example.
Yeah, this kind of "Microphone Zoom" has been a feature on dedicated camcorders for, like, at least a decade.
still does not change the fact it has nothing to do with "stereo sound" and is obnoxious in most use cases.

Unpopular opinion, Apple should make a separate iPhone every year with a better camera and just standard camera on the original
Unpopular opinion, we don’t need a new iPhone every year. There ain’t no amount of Tim Cook saying it’s revolutionary that can convince me that the iPhone 15 is any better than the iPhone 14. And USB-C isn’t a good defense because they should’ve done that five years ago.
@@SirLightsOut99 Most people don't upgrade every year so it would be more of an upgrade than upgrading from a 14 to a 15.
Calling the camera's transition while zooming a "Bonk" will be adopted in my vocabulary.

one thing i also hate in the camera "features" list is the fact that you cant choose to always take pictures with flash. its either off or auto. so if i want to take a picture of something dark but the phone sees to much light it wont use the flash. really annoying when you want to take a picture of something in an awkward angle working on a car or something. maybe you can turn off the auto feature but i dont know.
You can set it to always on its in the camera flash setting auto on and off. Top middle there’s an arrow type symbol tap that and at the bottom camera settings will pop up. On the left you’ll see the flash symbol. Lightning bolt. Two that and you options to auto on and off are right there.

Hello mate! So the reason the iPhone quiet nervous when you zoom in is because it is designed to direct the microphone pick-up towards the subject or speaker (person speaking) that you are zooming in on. Apples image processing is so good but their camera app has to be the worst camera app I’ve ever used in my life. No adjustments to almost any picture settings, no pro photo or video mode (it’s a miracle we got pro raw and pro res support) and the camera settings are hidden in the settings app rather than the actual camera app.

Only reason I switched from my Note 10 to an S23+ is because of trade in value. I couldn't find cases or screen protectors anymore and that phone was worth enough to almost entirely cover this one. The peace of mind knowing I have a protected phone was worth the risk because I have to use this phone for so much, and dropping it and having it die wasn't gonna work. Is it true the last few iPhones were getting abnormally warm/hot while charging? Only time I've experienced an Android overheating is when using it as a GPS, mounted on the dashboard, exposed to the sun on a 95°F day.
Someone online made a short comic panel making fun of an iPhone being used as a heat source when being charged with a generic cable. Not sure what sense that makes, but my query still stands.

Like to every complaint he made, I was like… yeah thats why I use a real camera.
And the image quality I get is “better” or should I say… I control the quality of my images. Not an algorithm.
THIS … I really think that some of this comes from Apple misunderstanding how to navigate how amazing their tech is getting. People are using these in place of professional grade cameras… but that means that EVERYONE has a professional grade camera in their pocket, so everything has so default to the least discerning videographers, leaving the professional users to figure it out… imagine selling top grade, multi-thousand dollar cameras but handicapping the tech for a toddler to use it. Professional looking photography is super easy. Whats hard is Professional looking videography, real cameras for video just arent the best for average users. No image stabilization, and very rarely no automatic iso, or aperature changes while taking video. Professional videography unless done in a professional environment is almost always about having to do multiple takes, angles, etc which is a huge time investment compared to multiple pictures. Hell cameras let you take bursts of pictures so if youre doing candid shots or moving shots its even easier.

If you want a camera its either some crap for ten bucks that barely functions, or its an incredibly complex machine that you need to learn and master.
Same with media players, its either knock of nuggets, or some high end stuff you really invest in.
Like, i dont mind spending some money on something i love, but i have many hobbies, and nowadays everything just seems to call out "you gotta pick one and stick to it, if youre not willing to drop 300 dollars on this, you dont like the hobby enough, and you should buy landfill that will break in less than a year like the rest of the plebs"
Like no my guy, i jus want _decent_ stuff. It doesnt have to be hand crafted by tibettan monks doing a handstand, i just want a propper, decent start to a hobby to try it out
I completely agree with you on this one
I know some people have there reservations but I think Oppo works really well as a mid-tier product, it's got all the new features, good build quality (my A57 lasted me 8 years) and comes with a reasonable price tag. Samsung's A series are also similarly good.
I think it's simply because most mid-tier products no longer need to exist as a decent smartphone can replace them.
Ultimately I think it's because the flagship phones are the only thing most people are seeing marketing for. So many people just buy whatever schlock is advertised to them, regardless if it's financially and practically a terrible buy.
I recently was looking for a mid-range audio player too. I know the struggle lmao

It's fun trying to explain that the "camera" is the issue, rather than our kiosks or printers.
@@firestonenightcore8606 the Kodak kiosks were the best
@@firestonenightcore8606 yeah we used to have an awesome photo shop. they even did special shit, film still and oldschool developing. its sad thats its gone. they even had a car audio section with a awesome selection of subwoofers and amps back when i was into that. they were professional installers aswell
Only places I know that develop photos is Walgreens and Costco in my area.
I'm one of those people that actually uses a proper digital camera. Even though on paper my Nikon p950 gets beaten out by an iPhone 15 pro in almost all specifications except for optical zooms (the p950 has a lot). I still get much much better photos because the raw unprocessed files are actually raw and unprocessed.
Who's watching on their Samsung?
Shut up
Watching on my Poco. No idea how people afford these phones in this economy.

I love how you kinda love Apple, but you're not a Fanboy, you're very constructive with apple. Also, hey, as a filmmaker, I totally get why you don't use the pro camera. The camera is only as useful as what you need it for, and hey, the phone is better for what you need then a pro camera. Respect!
I fully agree! As someone who uses android (currently on the s23 ultra for that gorgeous camera), and who has always had a hatred of Apple (as a company), I can't help but admire when I find people who aren't fanboys of Apple, and who use it because of all of its wonderful features... not just because it's Apple. Apple has so many fantastic products, that most other companies struggle to match or replicate. It's just that they keep everything so locked down and unusable beyond basic things, and the whole status symbol its made for itself, makes it such an off putting thing for me.
@@thomasschaufler987I’d much rather use a product that works 98% of the time than a product that works only 60% of the time which is why I stick with Apple. Apple isn’t about “being the first” anymore as they have been for a long time, but rather making something that works. Yes this video pointed out things that “didn’t work” but it’s 1% of the phone amongst other things. These are software fixes and Apple even focuses on supporting even the oldest of their devices which android doesn’t do. My note 5 is literally useless because of software and iPhones in that time frame are still supported. Yes SOME things are still “locked down” but for the good reason of letting things work on the phone and updates come to everyone at the same time letting everyone enjoy new software/hardware features at the same time. It’s about quality now. Not being first.
@@thomasschaufler987 You have completely echoed my thought on this matter! I too have the s23 ultra, and I plan on using it for at least 5 years/until it dies. I do not hate Apple products, I think they make some really good stuff especially for professional use, but I cannot in good concious support them because to me they are the absolute dictionary definition of corporate greed and represent everything wrong with capitalism.
Yea I feel like the DSLR is more suited to film when someone else presenting
@@arvak3999 ....have you spent any time looking at samsung? between the constant embezzlement and tax fraud, horrendous treatment of their workforce, collobrating with the Japanese in WW2, helping prop up South Korea's fascist dictatorships, and now the "get out of jail free" by the 'democracy' they prop up everytime they get pinged for something.
they make apple look like saints.
