If your Jeep Patriot is Jerking And shuddering while driving! You may have some bad spark plugs! This is what this video is about! Just our result after changing the spark plugs!
Changing the spark plugs is quite simple!
1- disconnect negative battery terminal
2- disconnect coil connectors
3- loosen and remove coils
4- remove spark plugs!
And re install in reverse!
It’s really easy to do and it’s very inexpensive compared to replacing a transmission and still having the same issues!

Just got back from a month long trip for work. Got back in my car and everything felt different. Stuttering, acceleration was lacking significantly, even starting my car sounded different.
Changed my 4 spark plugs and my car is back to normal. Thank you man.

I had the same exact issues going on with my 2011 patriot, same story i parked it for 3 months went to drive it and started driving awful! Replaced oil / oil filter , new plugs, new air filter the old air filter looked like it went through the desert. Drives like a dream now. Thanks for posting this video very helpful.
2017 Jeep Patriot, thought it was fuel problem or transmission also. Changed the spark plugs and it runs fine. It had 66000 miles on it and they had neverr been changed. Thanks for posting !!

Thanks for posting your engine sounds. My 2008 sounds the same. Changed my plugs, Half a tank of high octane, lucas carb cleaner in with the gas.

THANK YOU !!! My son's 2015 Patriot with the 2.0 engine was shuddering we though it was the cvt tranny going bad so we bought 4 NGK 2262 spark plugs from Advance for a total of $17.08 installed them and NO MORE SHUDDERING!!! Can't thank you enough for posting...

Bought a patriot test it drove when it was cold when it warmed up after an hour it starting jerking really thought it was the transmission. Found your video swapped out the sparkplugs (15$) & now it’s riding perfect. I appreciate you!!

Had a mechanic tell me $1800 to replace front and rear hub assembly. Plus labor. Asked a mechanic buddy of mine, and he said he could get everything brand new for $325 plus labor. Markups are ridiculous.
Ive had this same issue after a drive from Southern California to Ohio two years ago. I have changed the air filter, spark plugs and used octane booster to clean the injectors and nothing helped. I was about to change the fuel pump and then flush the trans as a last resort but now I may just try the plugs one more time with better plugs and hope for the best. Thanks
Thank you for the video! I also thought it was my transmission. I have 50k miles on my 2016 patriot. Changed all 4 spark plugs and it drives smooth now. No more shutter and hesitation. Wish I would have saw this video before I took it to the Jeep Dealership. They diagnosed a throttle body and I had them replace it for $800.
It is commonly the throttle body with these cars

Yep! Great video! It started happening with mine and I was like "damn, another problem". 20.00 later and about ehhhhh 20 min later, im able to fly up and down the highway. I can finally pass semi trucks lol that sucked! I was passing all slow lol. Thanks man!
Dude, Thank You so much for this video !!! I too, was having the same exact issues. I had a couple people tell me that they thought it was the transmission, I had my little doubts but didn't know. I took it to the jeep dealership and they said it was the transmission, if it was anything else it would show the problem lights on the dash. I had to do something because i only had 5000 miles left on the warranty. So they put a new/used transmission in. This was doing the same thing but not as bad but getting worse. So I took it back, they said the same thing but wanted to wait till it got worse so they could get a better reading on it. So I was on here searching for radio problems and i happened to see this. So I decided to do as instructed and replaced the plugs and BOOM !!, that done the trick !! Its been a couple months now and still no problems at all ! Meanwhile, Lol, I have a new transmission with a 36000 mile on it ! I called the dealership and told them and they couldn't believe it, Lol. So again, Thank You for this video !!
I just wanted to say thanks for this. It was well worth the $20 for Spark Plugs in my case! It did feel like transmission stutter though!
I wanna let you guys know I had this shutter issue as well at 100k. It turned out to be the ignition coils and the crankshaft position sensor! Ensure to change those out at that time as well to save you a lot of headache both are very easy to replace, and now I also get extremely great gas mileage.
Having a similar problem on my 2017 and been worried it was the trans. Gonna try changing the plugs. I thought it was weird I was getting all the shuddering and no idiot lights on the dash. Thanks for the vid!
My 2015 Jeep Patriot seems like the transmission is slipping, could it really be that easy? I just just edited this post to tell you. Dude! you just saved me a lot of money!! I changed the plugs by the book torque specs and everything and my Jeep Patriot sound and feels like a new vehicle!! Not kidding!! It's quieter runs smoother and I get better gas mileage and the slipping and bumping is completely gone! I even thought I had a wheel bearing going and I can't hear that either! I used OEM plugs NGK-ZFR5F-11 gap 0.043 torqued to 20 ft-lbs. Unbelievable! Thanks dude!

Wish I woulda seen this when I was going insane reading forums but yes exact same thing I got a mint jeep patriot 2016 and was shuttering and loosing power thought the transmission was doomed and thankfully I read a comment changed the plugs Wich were god awful condition and voila fix ! Can't imagine how much guys have spent at the dealer mechanic " fixing " the transmission and $20 OEM plugs can pop right in and gtg . This video is legit

This just happened to be last week when pulling an empty utility trailer. When the RPM dropped below 3500 it started bucking, so I had to downshift to 4th gear to get the revs up over 4k. I made it home and was talking to a buddy that does mechanic work and he said it sounded like the torque converter was acting up. It kinda made sense, but what I didn't tell him was if I got the revs up it was okay. I can't wait to tell him about this. Since I took the trailer off I'm no longer having the issue but I'll be changing my plugs really soon regardless. I'm up around 88,000kms on the odometer and though I bought it used with 25k on it, I doubt the previous owner changed them either.

BTW...clunking in the front end. Steering is fine. Replaces the lower control arms, sway bar bushings and sway bar links and still clunking when I go over even little bumps. Any suggestions?

Appreciate you taking the time to put this out there, I juat bought a used patriot and the instructions and manuals tell me that its normal, I never thought that would be, so now I'm going to replace them and see what happens. Hopefully I can find this video again and give an update.

Yoooo this worked! I was also thinking it was transmission and got quoted $5500 for it. Wow. Thank you RUclips and thank you. Went and paid for them at Jifflube. $129 but now i can speed up and no studdering!! Go uphill and I can actually speed up haha. Looking forward to passing semis uphill and not having a line of cars behind me LOL

I'm setting to get once in awhile 2-3 quick spuders and I was scared my tans is slipping but I'm sure my plugs are worn out. I'll check those before I do trans work
Amazing. shuddering around 30mph unless I put on the gas.
Spark plug change fixed the issue. Old spark plugs were worn to small numbs.

I just bought a Jeep Patriot 2011 and they told me my brakes and rotors were bad and I had to relapse the whole axle on the front with new cv boots which I paid a shop 1200 dollars to fix then at first started acting up like it didn’t fix it and then stopped then I was driving today home from work and my whole Jeep was shaking again but the engine runs fine I’m totally going to try this before I take it in to a transmission shop to get it diagnosed because it is just over 82000 miles

When I first bout my Jeep Patriot it was jerking also but me and my dad changed the spark plugs and it fixed it
Adding my voice to the chorus here - I installed NGK ZFR5F-11 (part number 2262 on some websites) spark plugs in my 2016 Jeep Patriot and it fixed the weird accelerating from a dead stop issue and the shuddering feeling at certain RPMs.
I hope this works for mine I have a 2017 and it's doing the same thing that you described with yours it shudders and jitters. I really hope that's all I need!

Did the issue happen only on the first 2 gears and then stopped? Mine is doing it only on the first 2 gears and then it’s like normal on 3rd to 6th gear.

Are you sure that you have a CVT transmission in your 2016 Jeep Patriot? I have a 2014, the first year for the 6-speed automatic transmission. The 2013 Jeep Patriot was the last year for the CVT transmission in the Jeep Patriot.

heyy there. we hope you are doing well. I am curious to know if replacing the spark plugs fixed your problem... keep in mind you may also want to change your ignition coils to be 100% sure that everything is in good working condition.. because a faulty coil can still show misfire and jerking etc

Mine started doing this yesterday and the first thing I did was come to the RUclips.
My car was sitting after losing my job. Came back to a dead battery and intermediate jerking. It also has a rough idle. Hopefully it is some sort of minor thing like this. I never replaced the spark plugs so maybe its due.
Changed spark plus on 2016 Jeep Compass when it was jerking fixed it for $36 thought it was cvt transmission going out. You would think Spark plugs would last longer than 60,000 miles.

Changed my plugs still had vibration so changed the coils and now the motor runs smooth testing drive tomorrow,

Hey thank you so much for watching and doing research. Be sure to have a professional check your engine mounts or transmission mounts… these worn out mounts could cause vibrations while in gear.. but when it’s in park and you’re stopped it is much milder and not noticeable until you start to put it in gear ⚙️
