“Oh this species group is great at rescues? Barbra! Set up a contract for human rescue workers! … I don’t care what affirmative action says, humans are the best at it so they get the contracts!!!”
It's a very common issue among humans to see a news article saying five died to rescue one. It drives emergency service personnel absolutely insane but it happens. This ladies and gentlemen is why. There is nothing that will cause the instance cessation of every argument we have as quick as rescuing civilians. It even happens in wartime where both sides will stop shooting at each other to conduct rescue operations. More than once it is actually led to a actual cessation of conflict because when we were just too busy. Hilarious seeing a repeat of Dunkirk.

Tbf, lot of rescue groups are donation based and get pretty damn big without it slowing their reaction down. Unfortunately countries just don't seem to be able to act the same way.
Depends, if it is shit like a fire or high water in areas prone to it they react pretty quickly. It's when the situation calls for "making ut up as you go along" that governments tend to falter and screw up.

An entire world that essentially is a peat bog blended with nitroglycerin that got lit on fire. . . . . . Good freaking Lord that would be terrifying and the fire still burning 15 plus years later. What is the oldest burning coal fire? Scientists estimate that Australia's BurningMountain, the oldest known coal fire, has burned for 6,000 years. In the 19th century, explorers mistook the smoking summit for a volcano.
Oh, you were the writer for this story? Good job on it. I hope you continue writing more in the future. You did real well encapsulating the human spirit of wanting to help out someone in need. It's an aspect that I wished more HFY fiction focused on - don't get me wrong, I love the "Humans are deathworlders and breath rocket fuel and excrete designer drugs" fiction, but it's nice to see fiction which shows that human people want to reach out a helping hand to those in need because we know what it's like to be in distress and we want to be there for others when it happens to them. And knowing humanity, we can find human characteristics and bond with machines or animals, so the idea of it happening with aliens is not strange at all. Although, again, god help any xenos that decides to pick a fight with humanity or decides to be a bully to those that can't defend themselves...
Mad respect for Smokejumpers. Reminds me of another one Agro has read, a few years ago now. About a team of Terran smokejumpers in a situation situation who all died physically shielding a small group of xeno families to make sure they survived. Can't remember the name of it offhand, but there were a whole lot of feels on that one.
Cajun navy.. really just introduce chicken crawfish catfish gators and a supply of Tonys to the planet, and they will come. If you build it(the tonys factory) they will come

It seems humanity definitely learned how to do large scale evacuations from learning a thing or two.

Dunkirk
I love the idea of a boss coming down, hearing tales of these 'super' rescue specialists, and immediately seeing if he can't get a contract with them.

Damn smart boss - not for wanting to hire humans, but for getting a feel of things direct from the people making his paycheck.
