Damn. Not gonna lie, that's pretty dark. All the nasty, viscous, and evil shite that goes through our brains is because of a long standing war with a psychic enemy. That can't die. That sounds like a challenge. Always did like a good challenge.
So the crazy monkeys are the result of Xenos being scared of the voices in their heads? Humans can zap or pill those away. I do feel bad for the rest of the galaxy when we get out there though.
This needs a sequel from the psionic monsters' point of view. They keep trying to turn people and mostly get the crap kicked out of them by the humans' subconscious selves. They barely manage to plant a few bad ideas most of the time before getting told to screw off, or beaten to a pulp in the mind space.
Psionic Alien is trying to influence a human's dream, giving them nightmares, the human happens to be James Cameron when he wrote Aliens and Terminator. Another haunts Van Gough, which makes him paint more. A group of them think they're making headway with the various atrocities in our history, but that just galvanizes human resolve and pushes more advancement.
Turns out that they're responsible for all the irrational childhood fears like the boogeyman and monster under the bed but go brain dead when the child host grows up because the adult human mind overwhelms them at their own game.

@@dagan2000 Funny. According to the rules set forth in the story, suffering doesn't seem to be necessary to do well. Wait, does that mean that humans are "infected"? Or the planet is? If the 1st, we may never leave Sol out of fear of spreading them, if the 2nd, humans may finally find peace once we colonize other planets.
Humanity has a tradition that says "The Devil made me do it." From Pol Pot, to the School Shooter, to the "greatest" nation on earth spending its children's futures on buying weapons for a war against a enemy that don't exist. Yes, there are demons out there in our souls.

I love the idea of that little voice in your head telling you to do weird, evil, or sad stuff is interdimensional invaders trying to bring the downfall of all. I think it's more like they have an ability to penetrate and humans have enough ability to resist or persist in spite of it. it can happen anywhere at any time but since humanity came on the scene, they haven;t been able to get to other places. The first set of invasions weren't localized and a few of those started with arsing of defeated psyionics. If these psyonics changed location each time, and more invaders were brought in regardless of the location of said bodies, then humanities existence is more what holds them at bay rather than presence. I think the universe would be screwed if humanity dissapeared not spread.
The cruel indifference of the universe vs the indomitable human spirit But funny enough this makes sense, this is the call of the void, the automatic thoughts we have that are bad, the aliens did not evolve with it, so they could not fight it, yet humans were you g and primitive, and so when they evolved, the evolved to just handle it
