These are skills that really are needed in many places, reduces waste and expense on repairs

This only reduces costs if the workers do not get paid properly. In most places around the world this repair would cost more than a new high quality rim.
@PekkaKilpelainen true, but I'm impressed with their ability to recreate the proper hub for this. The welding has to be good or it would not be so hard to machine the center out
They spent lots of man-hours to repair one tyre rim with a very questionable quality. This is not about reducing waste or cost. This is because they sadly cannot get a new one.
I love to see stick welding being used so much! It's what I learned first and I always come back to it. We really are spoiled with MIG and TIG. When it comes to big welds on heavy steel it's really hard to argue with what you can do with just a stick!

Fica a dica.
The holes were indexed and punched true to the bore which was right because it makes the bore a good reference surface. Then they take another cut on the bore which was true to the bolt holes but now no longer. Now they have created a wobbly bore which is out of true to the bolt hole circle. The rim in the lathe should be cut to fit the rim face, not the other way around.
That press really tests those welds. It was all going well until he put the rim in the lathe - nice touch trapping the swarf between the rim and centre. Nice welding but (mostly).

Lacks precision? Maybe so, but an out of round wheel will have the same effect as a rough road. Probably what this wheel will spend its life on. So, great job! Turned scrap into something useful. I do a lot of tig and machining, this video is a good reminder to adjust standards to what is really needed for the job. Stick welding always strikes me as crude, but it's really not.. the welder here and the rod (6011, 6013...??) seemed tolerant of the not so clean metal. It looked pretty good from here. I notice a lot of 2 piece rims on shipping container trailers running around here on i-78 that don't run true at all..what was made here looks at least that good.
Well do you think they gonna fly somewhere else to be stripped, this is their way of living, some of the hardest working people in the world...at least they not on Well fare!
I would like to know how they earthed the chuck before welding, the inner rim edge was at least 3mm out of true, these wheels are obviously not intended for high speed. Love the hydraulic punches.
0:06 This is the first time ever that i see such a catastrophic failure of a part that is vital. I'm guessing that it was made in one of these primitive shops, from scrap metal obviously. 1:31 Oh my... These bits you talked about are probably made of glorified alloy of high quality metals and pot metal. Nr 1 Best Top Quality.

I am stunned to see what damage wheel rims sustain in Pakistan (or wherever) and the methods of repair applied. Remind me to never go to Pakistan (or wherever) and certainly never to get on a bus there. By the way, what chances that the red-orange paint being painted on the rim towards the end feature lead on the list of ingredient? (Probably nil: it would be too expensive...)
Removing the tire ring’ in the 70’s while stationed in Germany we would get lots of flat-tires on the tank trails dropping gravel’ we would use pick’ax to break the ring to change flat tires’ You stand on the tire and work you way all-around and it would come in-done! We had 5 ton dump trucks 🛻 usually carry Bailey Bridge!

I've seen stick welding machines that were used in WW2 to weld armoured plate together on German tanks. The welding rod is like a fence post!
This is important. People using a skill to make something of use. I love this video and what those in it do.

The quality and craftsmanship of the original wheel ( the one that fell apart ) tells you all you need to know , this is on par with polishing a turd
except a turd is still useful as fertilizer in a field

Помню как снимали диск на ГАЗ-66 в 1996 году. Вот это эпопея была😊

Nice welds. Great ingenuity
Where did the rust red paint go? The guy painted the rim only to see the paint gone when they installed the wheel. Explainations?
These guys work hard.
I love the drill bit hammers
I wonder if Milwaukee will ever catch on to this 🤣🤣🤣
Appreciate the idea of using a broke drill bit to knock out the other drill bit, but using a bit that is still in use is scary!
They are pretty advanced in this shop compared to many others, no sandals, and use of gloves. Thumbs up

Excellent Worker team doing good job
The original probably failed because of a dodgy weld. Looks like they are replacing it with a piece of steel with an equally suspect quality.
And that's how you turn 100 dollars worth of scrap metal into a hundred dollar wheel 👌

These kind of workers created the damaged rim. That’s why it is broken. It is a paradox.

I didn't see any grounding of the parts he was welding. Magic...
We think a lot alike, I suspect sir. 🤣
They probably ran the ground to the lathe frame. Which in turn ran all the welding current through the headstock bearings. Oh well.
