    Will this work on an all metal framed mobile home window, including the length of the outside support screws to the thinner wall typical to them?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  2 года назад

      Hi Tom!
      Thanks for asking. The GE Profile unit fits window/wall thickness from 4.5 inches min to 13.75 inches max. The actual window sill depth does not have any bearing on window fitment, only the overall indoor to outdoor thickness of window/wall.
      This unit has been designed to be installed in a standard, single/double hung window. You can view the installation instructions, here: products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000634-1.pdf&_ga=2.90931354.1287406553.1656676200-450628325.1656676200

    Can the chase way be modified to be much narrower? Tin snips, hack saw then be pushed back together?? I want to hang it over a window of a steel building / garage/shed. The framing for the building uses 2" metal studs with the tin outer skin screwed over the studs. The depth of the building is probably 3" at its thickest. I know I can hang some 2"X6" studs across the 2x2 frame studs on the inside.

    It appears that the part of the unit outside the window also requires 10" of vertical drop. Correct?
    We have a protruding eave that allows only 4" of vertical clearance, even in the maximum chase-way position. Is there any work-around for that issue?

    People need to be aware that the 13.75" doesn't take into account the support knobs that stick out. We had measured our available sill for our unit, and the available width was exactly the widest setting. After recognizing that the knobs to the support take away an inch of that, we had to adjust how we installed it

    1) Should the front be flush with the wall or is there an inch or two between the front inner side and the wall? 2) Should the screw knobs at the back be very tight before putting the nuts in place? It seems to me that I can turn and turn and they never really get tight. 3) can the upper window be lowered to allow fresh air into the room while the unit is in the window? 4) Does the fan pull air from outdoors into the room or air from inside?

      Hi!
      Thanks for asking. Since the saddle unit base is below the windowsill, water collected from the evaporator (humidity removal) is pumped to outdoor side of the unit. There is an internal pump that pumps water to the outdoor side. In a case where the pump fails or cannot keep up because of extremely high humidity, the unit has a safety switch to shut down the unit. This keeps water from dripping from the unit on the indoor side.

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  2 года назад

      Hi there, and thanks for your interest in our air conditioner! While the SmartHQ app can be used to control and monitor this WiFi enabled unit, it also has a remote as well as a control panel you can use to manually make selections. Based on your comments elsewhere on this video, we’d also like to advise we have an article on how the unit is drained available here: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=000062584&_ . An internal pump directs water to the outdoor side, and if too much water collects on the indoor side there is a safety shut down switch to prevent leaks. Draining on the indoor side wouldn’t be necessary often. Regarding your window, the ClearView has four chase-way positions to accommodate window sill thickness between 4.5” to 13.75”. It’s designed for a standard double-hung window with a width of 20” to 40”, a minimum height of 13” and a minimum height from the floor of 10”. More information about installation, operation, features, etc. are available in the manual, linked here: products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000634-1.pdf&_. Regarding efficiency, the unit does have an Eco Mode option as well as energy reporting to monitor consumption. We hope this information is helpful. Can you install on a horizontal sliding door?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  Год назад

      Hello, and thanks for commenting. We appreciate your interest in our ClearView air conditioners! These models are generally designed to be installed in a standard double-hung window; they cannot be installed in another type of window or door without modification. We would not have tested any other set up for safety and reliability, and we regret any inconvenience this may cause.
      If you still want to try installing on a horizontal sliding window/door, we would recommend making sure the unit can properly secure to the window/door and the surrounding area around the unit is blocked from the outside. You would need to provide your own window filler. Also, the ClearView unit is 19 5/8” wide, so the window must open at least that far.
      If you’d like to review the installation information, the window requirements are discussed on page 11, linked here: spklr.io/6058Yq3G . That manual is for models PHNT10 and PHNT12.
      If you’re interested in other models or have any other concerns/questions, we’re always glad to assist, here or over our social media. We’re wishing you all the best! -SG

      We recommend you contact the window manufacturer for thier recommendations as to the installation of a window air conditioner and the weight limits for the window.
      Our installation guide is tailored for a standard double-hung window. Since you have a different type of window, you'd need to adjust the instructions accordingly if approved by the window manufacturer. • @geappliances
      @geappliances  2 года назад +1

      Hello Shaun. We certainly understand why our units having that maximum window width may be frustrating, and we regret any inconvenience caused. When we design our units, the side panels or other installation materials are designed to accommodate a window with that maximum width. If the window is larger, the panels won’t cover the full space. Installing in a larger window than the unit was designed for would not have been tested for safety and reliability. But if you did need to install in a larger window, visiting your local home improvement store for recommendations on how to secure the air conditioner and keep your window air tight would be advised. We hope this helps to clarify the matter. If you have any other questions or concerns, we’re always glad to offer assistance. Best wishes! -SG

      Hi Chase,
      Thanks for reaching out. Sorry to hear about the issues you're having here, we're sure this would be frustrating.
      According to the troubleshooting section of your Use and Care manual, a P1 error code means that the pump has encountered a problem or has failed.
      You would want to drain the indoor side of the unit first. Then, you can hold down the SLEEP button for 3 seconds to clear error message. If the error code persists, the pump will need to be serviced.
      Tips on how to drain the unit can be seen on page 8 of the Use and Care manual, here: products.geappliances.com/MarketingObjectRetrieval/Dispatcher?RequestType=PDF&Name=49-5000634-1.pdf&_ga=2.186059818.202487319.1660561576-1657613511.1658931497

      At this time, we don’t have an extension kit available to make the unit compatible with a window deeper than 13.75”. To ensure the unit operates correctly, the air conditioner does need to be installed per the instructions in the use and care manual (which you can view on our GE Appliances website when you look up the model number and go to the product page). A deviation from the installation instructions may void the warranty. We will certainly let our team know of your interest in an extension depth kit for future consideration.

    Where does the condensation go? Does one have to "drain the unit" to a bucket every time it fills up with water or is there an automatic way like drilling a hole in the wall and running a drain line outside?

    • @geappliances
      @geappliances  2 года назад +4

      Hi Mark,
      Thanks for reaching out! It's recommended that you leave the exterior drain plug in place as removing it could hinder the efficiency of your unit.
      As far as water collection goes, water is collected in the indoor section as the air conditioner removes moisture from the air during the cooling process. When the indoor tank starts to fill up, water will get pumped to the outdoor section where it evaporates or drains out. Just like any air conditioner, the water is picked up by a fan and is flung against the condenser coils to evaporate. Because the water is pumped to the outdoor unit, draining the indoor tank is not necessary in most cases. The outdoor unit only needs to be drained in certain situations.
      You can learn more by taking a look at the following article: products.geappliances.com/appliance/gea-support-search-content?contentId=000062584&_ga=2.173683235.1059795318.1656962450-450628325.1656676200

      this is what I found from GE official website...."The good news is we do not anticipate you having to drain either side of the unit in most instances. Water is collected in the indoor section as the air conditioner removes moisture from the air. When the indoor tank starts to fill up, water is pumped to the outdoor section where it evaporates or drains out. It will evaporate with the outer rubber plug installed. A continuously running fan provides constant air flow in the area to be cooled, keeping the room at a more comfortable temperature. As a result, The fan reduces the variance of temp in the room, so the compressor does not have to run as much.

      We understand how this can seem contradictory and apologize for any confusion. When installing you want to make sure that the air conditioner is level, however, if you notice water dripping inside then it is ok for the unit to be slightly tilted towards the back. If it requires water drain inside of our room, it’s no different than the other brand, Soleus, which had exact the same design and drainage issue inside of room. I was debating myself when I first looked up AC this year whether I should go with that one or midea U shape. I loved this “n” design more than “u”, yet, I read reviews about needing drainage inside of room constantly. Therefore, after weighing all factors, I decided to go with Midea U shape. I bought 2 and they worked like charm, super quiet and super efficient cooling down the rooms. The only downside of midea was the installation. I honestly think that this Ge/Soleus “n” shape design is even better than “U” shape but inside room drainage was a deal breaker for me. Ya should perfect this flaw then GE can compete against Midea. Before ya fix that, Midea U shape is by far the best window AC in the market without doubt from my experience.

      Fault or error codes are programmed in air conditioner controls to help service technicians quickly diagnose issues with the unit. In the event that the electronic control displays an EP or any other fault or error code, a trained service technician should be called to diagnose and correct the issue. We do not have a list of all the fault or error codes and their meanings since they all indicate a service issue.

      The instruction booklet says that if the unit was turned on its side/back/front or upside-down, then you should let it sit upright on a level surface for 2 hours before turning it on.
      I think you got "24 hours" from advice regarding refrigerators which were turned on the side/back/front or upside-down.
      This 2 or 24 hours is to allow the oil in the system to drain down into the compressor, if the unit was not kept upright during transport.
      If the unit was not kept upright and level during transport, the oil in the system may collect in places other than the compressor. If you turn on the compressor before the oil drains down into the compressor, the compressor may be damaged.
      The booklet says 2 hours. It can't hurt to be safe and wait 24 hours.

      Really, this should be a top point. I was thinking exactly this when deciding what air conditioner to install. A portable AC would let you easily use the window as an escape route, if some locking mechanism is made to be simple to unlock from the interior. Portable AC's merely use a small panel that can be taken swiftly out of the way. I guess that removes your window security. It's either escape route or security, choose one. Glad the room I want to add supplemental AC has two good size windows. Even if you could escape through the window, a window AC will be totally in the way, even this GE Profile Clear View. If anyone wants a portable AC, please make sure to get one that has dual (two) hose vents. You need two, or the single hose one will vacuum effect all air from rest of house through/under door. Also you need two vent tubes to dissipate warm air out of the room. Single hose means it has no where to go.

    Be very careful with the side pieces that fill the gaps. Measure and re-measure from inside window rail to inside window rail. Not the lip of window slide rails. Also, I am finding I am going to have to seal my entire window on the outside around the unit, , otherwise weather can blow around, and through any cracks. and bugs too will find their way in. Not bad mouthing this unit, just saying what they give you isn't all you need to do, if you have my type windows. I have deep storm windows, with an outer sliding glass, and an inner traditional sliding glass. that leaves me with a big gap between glasses with those cracks I spoke of. Going to have to use plywood or Plexiglas to seal that window from the outside, and spray foam under unit to seal there . My window faces West, right into the face of storms we have. those wind storms, they find any crack or crevasse you have, and blow rain straight across at times into them with pressure.

    This window unit is awful! I've had issues with it since installing last summer. While it looks nice, it does not drain water out of the inside of the unit that is inside of the house so water sits in the unit until manually drained and the compressor will not kick on and it smells awful! I have to drain this multiple times a day for it to cool my tiny room. I've read reviews that people are having to leave a bucket under it so it will drain constantly... just nasty! It's also leaking from the cracks where the sides connect to the main part of the unit. The back of the unit that is outside is bone dry. This is just AWFUL. Hi Courtney,
      Thanks for taking the time to reach out. We're sorry to hear about the issues you've had here with your unit and with getting help with it, we're sure this would be frustrating to say the least.
      On the rare occasion that this occurs, the drain has a thread that accommodates a standard garden hose thread to direct drain through the hose if required. The indoor drain cap can be removed if you wish to remove the unit from the window. There may be some water in the indoor base, and removing the indoor drain cap allows removal of water before attempting to remove the unit from window.
