  • When it comes to negotiation , we Indians lock horns with Autowallah or Sabjiwala for any additional rupee ..
    But when it comes to bigger amounts like your salary / compensation packages, we either feel shy to ask for or leave it to the HR manager to decide for us.
    Why ?
    Because we pay more attention to the rising petrol prices than on the inflation index (living cost in India)
    Research shows that Desperation on need of your job, in your body language , how you speak , is used by the company’s to hammer down your salaries.
    The research adds up, that because of this issue, candidates tend to loose 5-10% of their deserved salary rise , if they don’t negotiate well..
    Here are few salary negotiation tips , that can help you to negotiate better In Indian context ...
    If you find it interesting / useful , do SUBSCRIBE this channel and share it with others ..

    Thank you for the valuable information. I would also like to add some more information. Based on my personal experiences, I would suggest never choose a company that offers you lesser than you deserve, that forces you to negotiate. I personally experienced that when I got job in a very reputed company and it offered me above and beyond my expectations without even negotiating and it turned out to be a very good employee centric company with best policies and best culture. Employer's behaviour is a sign that should be noticed during an interview which can predict how a company will treat you.

      Yes absolutely Ashwini, I agree too. An employee centric organization will always compensate you well and pay you as per the salary structure. If a firm is negotiating too hard, better to drop that opportunity as the way they handle you now they will handle you in future, even while performance appraisals.
      So as Mr. Thukral shared, basic research around the role and its compensation is necessary to make sure that you are not mislead, since the salary at which you join one firm can hit you through out your career.

    Few important points that were not covered:
    1. Often recruiters ask your expected salary at the very first round itself, without which they won't take you ahead.
    2. Market research is purely anecdotal, no one really knows what's being paid out there, unless you're yourself in HR or payroll.
    I guess the best time to look for a job change, is when you actually don't need one, so you get a tremendously strong upper hand in negotiations. Otherwise you'll always be at mercy of what's in the offering, as you're desperate

    There is lack of market information about salary levels in the industry. What one can do as ask for 30% over current salary CTC . Compromising is 20% . Once joined if you find you are undercharged , change the job ASAP .

    Hi Arun Sir, I am IT professional with 5.1 years exp. I did the same mistake. I didn't consult anyone/hadn't do any market analysis for salary (Location: Banglore, Exp: 5 years, Position: Sr Software developer). Actually, my company is taken over by another company. So our parent company lay off 75% employees from its Subsidiary (in which i m working) on very short notice. So my mind was not relaxed.
    At the end, i quote very less salary to my new employer. Now what should i do ?.

    Whenever I do a market research I don't get satisfactory answers for salary for a particular role.

    I had the bitter experience!!!
    During salary negotion,I have observed recently some consultancies, They try to exploit during the salary negotiation Interview knowing that you are foreigner and are too humble .They behave as if you are doing wrong by negotiating the salary.whenever we ask some thing politely also,They try to say that "usually in Germany it is not like this or like this only".. just try to override. Indirectly they point that we dont know any thing about the Job market.They think that we are soft spoken and we will accept and work thinking that we are coming from poor country. I get angry sometimes when someone does like this but i control myself. At the same time, being a such high experienced i feel myself i should not be exploited by some one. . so what is your suggestion here and how do you react

    "How to negotiate the Notice Period (inside and outside of the Probation period) right in the Final Round / the Salary Negotiation Round?"

    • @chiragpatel1112
      @chiragpatel1112 3 года назад +1

      Generally there is no notice period when an employee is under probation. Once completed considerable time and confirmed on the job ie completed probation. Then notice period comes into effect if you wanna leave. But understand one thing, why will HR or Hiring manager even entertain the question of you asking to "Negotiate the notice period" Its as good as thinking of leaving before even joining.
      On the other hand, if you manage to stay with ur firm for a considerable period of time say 2-5yrs and have good relationships with HR and ur Manager then notice period can be negotiated reduced. Sometimes the company that ur leaving can ask you for some money to waive off the notice period and sometimes the company that ur about to join can agree to pay that money too! All the best 🤘🏻

    • @tjay_79
      @tjay_79 3 года назад +4

      @@chiragpatel1112 Hahaha... when you are going to join a company which is a kind-of staffing firm and you are going to be on the payroll of them while working for Big Tech, it's high time you ask questions about "Notice Period..." (because one of the firm with which I am negotiating the Terms of OL has 90-Day NP) moreover, asking these questions are Very Very Very Imp... some or the other day you are gonna leave that company and switch to another one...
      it is IT domain, your CTC will only increase if you switch...
      To my surprise, the firm's HR told me that they won't be providing me any "Relieving Letter" if I leave before completing one year there...
      To which I said, "It is Indian government norms to provide either Relieving Letter or Experience Letter let alone the Employee be 'Terminated' or 'Resigned' on whatsoever grounds..." and this I was talking to the HR directly... no Associates or Interns... (Just Imagine Level of Bullying he was trying to apply on me... maybe he was thinking I was a fool...)
      The HR was quoting the company policies, so I quoted the Labor Laws and told that Employees can always write to the Labor Commissioner of the State for such disputes... to which he suddenly "Changed his Tone, and started Agreeing to whatever I was saying..."
      That is why, Chirag bhai, "badhaaj prakaarna Prashno puchwa pade Join karya pella..."
      and I would also look in the OL whether all those T&Cs are appropriately mentioned in Clauses, if Not, I'll tell them to revise the OL...

    Sir, I have one major question that HR normally asks in an interview..." what is your current salary?"...this is by far the most asked question for anyone. I feel that I am currently underpaid and undervalued so when I look for other opportunities, how can I politely let them know about my situation so that they don't brand me based on my current salary drawn. In fact, how can I completely hide my current package and make them talk about their usual salary range!?..

      Hi Sir,
      Thank you so much for replying sir :) and sorry for being not clear about my question.
      I want to ask that, many companies have their notice period of 3 months. And now days in most of the job openings they mention that notice period must be 30 days or less even they prefer immediate joiner and give them joining bonus as well. So this scenario creates a dead lock situation, for candidate a well as for the company because candidate has its notice period of 3 months but the other company requirement says that notice period must less than 30 days.
      So please if you can suggest anything which will help to avoid this dead lock condition?
      Thank you.

    Also, one more question, Sir -->
    I have received an Offer Letter from company 'A' and now I've put it on hold because they did not provide me the CTC I desired and its location is out of my desired location; now I'm also selected-interviewed at company 'B' and there I've mentioned that I have the counter-offer of ABC CTC, and hence I am expecting more than that at company 'B'. Now during the final negotiation call, the HR is company 'B' asks for the Counter-Offer OL, should I be giving him that?
    Upon asking this, I provided him the Screenshot of the CTC Structure Page and not the entire OL; but then HR calls me to provide the entire OL; which seems somewhat suspicious to me, since you already have the Company Name, CIN, CTC, "Fixed : Variable" and likewise, then why should you require the Entire OL?
    What are your views on this?

    • @ArunThukral
      @ArunThukral  2 года назад

      If you have another offer in hand, its a good sign that you are in demand.. as far as negotiation is concerned with your first employer, you can negotiate but to a certain level.. If you are high demand candidate , they might give you an increase , but may not match your new offer... Chances high that if you insist on same package or higher , then they may withdraw ... So take cautious call according to the situation...

      Rajdeep , Recruiters wants to know all these details so that they can match guidelines provided to then from their client ... So what you need to do - You need to tell the recruited that you are flexible with the CTC and a lot would depend upon the intervoew process with the client

      Neha .. well it's easy but not simple 🙂...
      1. You can check with few recruiters, what band of salaries are there for a particular role ( Which you are targeting)
      2. You may visit the company websites , a few do mention the salary range
      3. Check with your peers in other companies , who might be in similar roles or people in similar roles in their org.
      4. Check salary surveys from various coys .. like Naukri or IIM jobs ..
      I am sure these steps will give you a fair idea on the salary range ..
      Cheer

    Hi Sir, Thanks and appreciate your videos and topics which will really hep and understand the candidates. However I have a query from HR perspective as after so much verification and multiple rounds of interview and then candidate realising that he has been offered less comparatively to other person with similar experiences and credentials, so this leads to demotivation from employee perspective and he might not perform well or can move on to other job where he gets as per his expectation. So is this not double work for HR to search for another candidate and also another query as per my experience why a company will not raise salary to an existent employee as much as they recruit from outside? this could be a strategy for companies to make employees leave the company by this kind of demotivation ?? Please answer

      Hello Arun - Thanks for watching the video and glad that you raised a very important question.... Well, I would like to respond your questions in 2 parts 1. Candidate - When the candidate realises or comes to know that he got less package vis a vis others (With same experience / expertise) , demotivation is likely to happen - But from here there are 2 approached ... 1. He feels frustrated and reflects in his work , and then start looking out for new roles ... 2. He understands that he needs to work more harder and raise the performance bar to get better increments next year .... the first step is easy ( which many take)... the II step ( which few take) is long path ... It all depends what you choose

    • @ArunThukral
      @ArunThukral  Год назад

      HR Perspective - 1. The HR always have a manpower budget ( P&L) along with functional head .. so basis that they will decide what salary to offer to a potential candidate .. , also the candidate is good & having potential , but he is yet to perform in the organisation to prove his credentials 2. Candidate may feel that he is better than his counterparts in skills & experience, but its the HR & reporting manager , knows best - who is at what level ... for eg. Someone may be very hard working and brings Above Avg to good performance while someone may be more skilled and has strong mental abilities , may get Good to exceptional performance ... but he/she doesn’t appear to be hard working .... 3. Sometimes there could be exceptions and HR may go wrong - thats how they also learn from their mistakes .....

      Ya you are right Monalisa , coys do check the expectations even before the interview round , this helps both sides in expectation setting ... well that does not mean that you can't negotiate ... You can , but within a undeclared boundary...

      @ArunThukral  3 года назад

      As mentioned in the video , keep highlighting your best values and why you are bestbfot for the role till the last round ( or till they come to salary discussions ) , if you have been able to take to that level, you may even cross the undeclared boundary 🙂

    How do we negotiate with an HR who says you are already above the market as per your experience.

    • @ArunThukral
      @ArunThukral  3 года назад +3

      Hi Chander .. Interesting question ..I ve few thoughts on it .. 1. If you are already above market standards and they are still hiring you , it shows that you have the capability and cutting edge above others... so you are at a sweet spot to negotiate better... generally for such people , either the designation or band is adjusted to accommodate higher package
      2. In case HR tell you that youbare above market standard , then you must highlight your worth for the role over other candidates..like " what others can do in 6 months , I can deliver in 60 days" ...as an example ... but such claims must be very strong and authentic ....
      Hope thus answers your point
