    In India, in the first call when the HR approaches me, first few questions include what is CTC and what is expected CTC, even big product based company. And no matter how much I try to avoid that question in the first call they anyhow take answer of it saying that we can’t proceed ahead given we have budget for this position. What is your suggestion on that 🙂

    • @chad-thuggins
      @chad-thuggins Год назад

      That's good and bad for a reason. It's good because if you are not in their range your time will ot be wasted. I suggest you always ask the salary range before they go on with JD and role and location and all that. Money is first

    Nice video, well explained... And your other video explaining that the package they offer will also commensurate with the additional responsibilities they would expect out of the candidate.
    I am not sure if my case is uncommon, but what if I am in a power position, the company considers my skills an unbeatable combo... and I tick all boxes including negotiation.
    But there are many people who are ready to do take up the job at a fraction of my current pay, the package I am getting from my current company (India) ...
    There are aspirations and needs to move for people in such positions also...(I know many living examples) And settling for a lower package is not a logical solution for all cases..
    I really would like your insights..

    Hi sir..very informative video..
    I have a quick followup question on this..
    I am in a position wherein , even before the HR shared the JD for the position and the interview rounds, they asked me the current and expected CTC, i gave away a premature reply of X salary and 1.3X minimum expectation.
    Now as I walked through the 4 rounds of interviews, i researched the market rate for that position from various open sources and colleagues working in that same organization..and learnt the payscale for the position is itself 1.6X-2.1X(X being my current package)..
    Also, I believe i am in a power position as I have cleared the 4 rounds of interviews and am scheduled to have the HR round shortly..
    How to negotiate and handle the situation in this case..? Can I quote the market rates and the payscale that i learnt from my friends working in the org? What if the company offers me lets say 1.4X only?

    • @CareerTalk
      @CareerTalk  3 года назад +5

      Hi Abhishek,
      Given the situation you are in you should definitely ask for market rates. You should also upfront ask them for the level/ grade in which they are hiring you and if they have a payscale for that grade/ level (do not mention about you knowing some other employees of the company - this may not be taken in the right spirit because salaries are supposed to be confidential). You can also play the card of having another offer in hand but that may lead to unnecessary hassle of producing a competitive offer letter etc.
      I hope my response to your question is not too late. Do let me know if you would like to speak to me.
      Thanks
      Anand

    I'm in hunting. Wonderfully useful tips, we have to revert back the question on the roles and responsibilities of that position when asked for expectation... Can we also show case our various technical skills? But most of the HR doesn't aware of the technical skill associated with a programming language. They think, a java resource will work only in java but in real world applications that's not the case !!!

    I was giving interview and expectation was CTC of 13 lpa but found out this role gives 14 as fixed component , so quouted 16 and eventually got 15 as fixed component and ctc of 20 lpa but I wish I had quoted 17 as fixed component as I did very good in interview for junior role of developer. Anyways, don't want to feel greedy as I already jumped from CTC of 5 to 20😊

    • @CareerTalk

      Hello Sachin,
      Base salary is a fixed amount of money paid to an employee by an employer. A base salary does not include the benefits, bonuses, or other potential compensation an employee might receive in addition to the base salary. In hand salary may include base salary plus other monthly incentives after deduction of taxes.

    Yeh log youtube mein gyan pelna ajatey hai. Non sense this does not work in India. Most are underpaid in India. Every company wants cheap labour, unless you have extra special skills such as ML, Data science, AI etc where talent is less. For other regular jobs, you get a hike percentage based on current salary. But if your current salary is on higher side, then they don't hire you, simple.
