I was there at the beginning at 15 years old and followed the UB40 story over the years, never once thought Ali could be replaced vocally, however just seen them live in Mallorca 2023 and Matt Doyle is the replacement that I thought couldn't happen - Absolutely Brilliant
Matt Doyle looks so much like a Campbell. I wondered if he was Duncan's son. Can't find anything online about it, but he's the spitting image of Duncan Campbell
UB40 in 2 versions, tough choice Matt Doyle looks and sounds like Ali Campbell in the younger days with Robin Campbell and many other founders on this one and on the other Ali and Astro who I had the pleasure to see in 2019 and just found out he passed away in Nov. 2021 RIP Astro.
Many vintage groups have 4 members or less of the classic line up today, but they keep the name, same way. The Specials, Selector, The Beat, Def Leppard, Rolling Stones, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Deacon Blue and shitloads more. Why shouldn't Jimmy, Robin, Earl and Norman do the same?
this formula sounds better than Ali formula, i say that because i heard them both! Ali' s band is less enthusiastic! the other band have a lights show , much better sound ,better costumes( Ali was dressed almost as a homeless) i was shocked ! the only thing " bad ' for the UB40 is the man who played the percussion should NOT sing and perform in the front of the stage( even for one song)... not everybody who have a voice can sing or viceversa!

Apparently more complicated than that… According to some articles Robin has the right to the name, after Ali decided to leave the band and go solo…not sure who is right on this one
