These lads came together on the streets of my home Birmingham and created one of the best if not the best reggae bands the worlds seen. Fucking Unreal. Being 27 my childhood was filled with ub40, bouncing around my living room with the big speakers on. The songs they wrote themselves some of best songs in my playlist and the meaning of them songs echoes on in todays world. UB40 league of their own.
all you people who think ub40 either version these days....is the best.....This is UB40....NO OTHER WAY..
After the country album and astro leaving, Silhouette album sounded good with Ali. Now it is fair to say next album, real labour of love is so so crappy! And for the many, sounding very UB40ish to me, I think Duncan's best, and now he has to retire. Dont know what to expect.
Exactly 💯.
@@selectorbenyo3300 bollox Ali is the heart of ub40 Duncan shite and the country and western album from the Dark side is shit
Ub40 crap without Ali and Astro
This is the best UB40. Politically correct at the time.
5:48 Goosebumps! RIP Brian & Astro
I had the privilege of working at Coventry theatre on security for a number of years in the 70's and 80's. UB40 played frequently and were simply outstanding. Never seen another band who sound exactly the same live as they do on record/cd etc.
Pure Quality,UB40 !!! Saw them in 1999 and 2019!, they still the same , very talented Musicians!, so sad Bryan and Astro Died!! Best European Reggae Band!
You must have never seen or heard another European Reggae band? Twinkle Brothers? Misty In Roots? SO many others...
UB40 were absolutely great. But come on... 1999? That's about 15 years after their prime! Not to mention 2019... In 2019 there were grandparents out there that weren't even born when UB40 was at its best.
Got so stoned to this Album in Dublin in 1980 so many times. Saw them live at a festival around the same time! Such wonderful musicianship. When I hear the first track these days I feel so high without taking a thing. Magical music magical memories. RIP Brian and Astro! Love everything you made up to RedRed Wine! I’ve been round the sun 65 times and so happy to have UB40 with me for 42 of those years and more to come ..,,
RIP Astro🙏🏿, UB40 forever ❤️
Love seeing and listening to Brian Travers playing the sax. As well as Ali's incredible voice, such a signature sound of UB40. RIP Brian 😘💖🎷
Saw then in 83/84. Best band I've ever seen. Along with Madness, the Poges and selector. What a day!!
Best era of UB40 music , sound was rootsy and clear : thanks your music will live for ever
That first album was so good ❤.
Just love listening to these older concerts . I love all the instrumental bits of their music and brings back so many memories too
Loved them Then! UB40 from 79’ til 83’ 👑🔥🔥👑🔥🔥👑🔥🔥👑🔥🔥👑🔥🔥👑🔥🔥👑
I listened to red red wine on the radio and had the studio cassette I loved it, wore it out in high school. Since I loved that when they came to G'ville, Florida USA I had to go. OMG, in concert the horns and energy of UB40 was so much better than on the stereo. Such a great experience.
The very best sound and years of UB40 excellent group I'm still listening them
Had a great chat with Brian way back early 80'ds genuine nice guy, so sad to see he has passed away.
I reflect back and think how incredible it was to experience these musicians in the mid 80's....phenomenal !!! In NYC, to see them at concerts on the Pier, at a hall in Fordham University...to see the Talking Heads on thier Stop making Sense tour at Forest Hills tennis stadium.....I was truly privileged ❤️❤️. RIP Brian and Astro, you influenced my life in so many positive ways...
By far the best period of UB40.....great gig this was! Thx for the upload man.
One of the best bands playing live dubs too.
When you mention UB40 most say 'oh red red wine' they know nothing of their music before then. I love the labour of love albums but i listen to old stuff more. Still love it
When I watch concerts like this, I feel so sad about the way things have turned out for UB40.
balsingh1 I feel the same! All talented musicians, great rhythm, great songs!

,Ub40
Yea was just thinking bout that imagine howd they be if they still together n all join the band
Ali's voice still remains untouched, yet been unable to find the real ub40 sound.
they had the entire world..... but money is a bitch
They were brilliant, let us all remember them that way💜👍
Rest in peace, Brian!
Even three members left the band, after 40 years i still love them….
The best time of UB40. ❤️
You are so right!!!
Awesome!! I love early UB40
Present Arms intro is killer!!!
Gonna check it out now.🤯
@balsingh1 it’s awesome! 👍💯
I've never heard a better brass section.
UB40 saying their first 3 albums where not in tune, even though |I think that was their best work in their career.
@katoness I’ve never understood why they said that, such outstanding musicians right from the very beginning!! 💯💥
If you listen to some of the Present Arms tracks the guitars aren't in tune. Still great tracks though, the best era for UB40.
@@A.BondGirl From the very beginning? As they were (almost) all unemployed, they decided to start a band, and then picked an instrument to learn. And if I remember the article right, I believe Robin was the only one who could actually play from day one, Jim and someone else both wanted to be drummer, but Jim got the hang of it first. Outstanding musicians, my behind!
But they had a keen ear for creating great music, back then.
Did they blame the piper for that? Apparently, he called it!
Seen the UB's live, twice & Ali & Friends at the Royal Albert Hall. Pure class, sound even better live than on vinyl & Ali has magnetic stage presence & his voice is made for these tunes!
Loved ub40 music since a young age and before I even knew who they were. Would have loved to have seen them live in their hay day
UB40 got me through my adolescence. My most favourite group of all time.
Thanks for the music and memories brian Travis and astro
In their top form, the best!
The essence of UB40😎
Saw them last night in Melbourne! Fantastic...nearly as good as MLG in Toronto in 1983!!
What a night......I still had my hair then!!!!
This was around the first time I saw them. I would've been 17 and we snuck into a packed bar in Canada. They would tour regularly back then and I'm sure that I saw them at least 6 times before they stopped coming over.
Their best era... Awesome... I like to remember them from this period. Great days. God bless all.. ❤️👍🇬🇧
Rip Astro my ❤ love. Keep going Ali. 💪 xxx
MASTAAAHHH UB40 VIBESSS!!!!!❤❤❤
From their debut to 86/87
They were on top of their game
Great vid, takes me back to the first time I saw the UB’s live at The Magnum in Irvine. Back when they played the brass section themselves. As close as it gets to the true versions of the songs as they were laid down on the early albums. Love is all is alright is my favourite. Brilliant.
Im from Irvine. I seen them in 1983. At the magnum. A memorable concert. I was about 18 years old. I'm now 55.
Brings it all back like it was yesterday
Simply phenomenal!!! Roots!!!
the real tune of ub40 :D
Dont do the crime its epic...... they never played it again :(
They played it last in 2005
Can't beat the 80s
I’ve been to about 20 glastonbury festivals this was a good one !
Real music . Real happiness
Sheer brilliance as weem Brummie folk do

@@A.BondGirlcheers babe stay safe
complete and tight with Mikey Dread wrap up-Nice.
This was right before Red Red Wine became a hit along with Labour of Love. I got tix front row centre for Massey Hall in Toronto at the age of 16. What a night. I was amazed how they sounded exactly like their albums
A banda mais elegante de reggae do mundo.
RIP Brian and Astro. I saw UB40 on September 7,1988 at the Greek Theater in L.A. with the Dan Reed Network , the Pacific Amphitheater in Costa Mesa in June or July of 1990 with the Smithereens, and at the Reggae Sunsplash on September 2, 2006 with Toots and the Maytals and others. This was back when they were still the full band. Was anybody else at these shows? I was not the only person there. I would love to hear from you. GODDAMN! Now sucks compared to the great of back when. Peace.
The best sound of this band by the far, loce this sound 🙏❤️
Das Album 'Present Arms'
ist ein Teil meiner Jugend

この初期のub40は、やっぱりいいね!
RIP Astro. Hey folitician...when UB40 were at their best, before doing all those soft love songs.

Balsingh, They are doing Fabulously, just time and Actions really needed Change.
That's in past 🙏
They are if anything much better with Time.
Bless you, it's Fine dear🌹
thanks for posting! 10/10
Maravilhoso ... 😍
Fantástic! !!!!!
Ali singing with his natural voice.. not the nasal whiney sound we hear in live clips now .
Excellent footage
❤
Signing Off, Present Arms and UB44 are amazing albums before they became more commercialized with the Labour of Love series.
I hate it when people did UB40 probably one of the greatest live bands ever
Dis
@@bernieakers5962 With well over 3,000 bands seen live, I can honestly say: "Nope. Not even close". And certainly not after Ali left. And with the petty bickering between the (former) band members (and friends), what's not to dis? ;-)
I saw them back in the late 80s, and then again around 2005. The concert from the 80s has not left any memory, whilst other concerts from around that time, I can still (sort of) remember. The second concert they were completely blown off stage (in my opinion) by a hungry, energetic support act, whilst the UBs were merely going through the motions. Lacklustre 'dancing' (placing the balance from the left foot to the right, and vice-versa), Ali couldn't be arsed to stop chewing his gum whilst singing... If they are truly one of the greatest live bands out there, I would have remembered the first, and they'd have humiliated the support act in the second.
Of those 3,000+ other bands I've seen, there's merely a handful I consider more than just great live bands, since I have seen them tens of times and not once have I seen them having an off-day.
If you ever have the chance, check out live shows from The Paladins, Therapy?, or The Slackers.
