      As a KH fan I find a huge hypocrisy in these fandoms. When KH makes a huge story filled with twists and turn over a long period of time it's described as "Nomura and his madness/shenanigans/bullshit storytelling" but FF7 remake does it all in one game and it's seen as this huge achievement and master storytelling. There isn't a big difference between what KH has been doing since Birth by Sleep and FF7 remake and I think anyone who praises FF7 remake for their storytelling and Loki and the way mavel are doing their story should be saying the same for KH even if they don't like the franchise or Nomura.

      @superc37 Yes. I think it is really a sequel, some complains why square enix marketed this game as a remake but square cannot state that this game is a sequel cause it will affect the narrative of the game, this game is design to make us believe that this is a remake and gave us a big reveal in the end where everything will be explained, make us players as the unreliable narrator cause we know the plot of the og, like cloud in the game with a messed up memory. Its a big ass meta, og ff7 revolutionized the rpg games back in ps1 era so they want also to make ff7r different to other games by having this kind of narrative that affect not only within the game but also us players

    • @redhexon1614
      @redhexon1614 3 года назад +10

      @superc37 we do have different preferences, and i respect ur opinion about the game, just want to say the developers wants to re-achieved what ogff7 does which made jrpg game more popular or mainstream, by having a meta narrative for the ff7r. Just what they said they dont want to made 1 to 1 remake, because after that it would just disappear on the radar. So they made a gamble for this one, made it a masterpiece for todays era or just another mediocre or worst game. Cause no remake would be state as a masterpiece, only original art.

    • @eustass4491
      @eustass4491 3 года назад +4

      @superc37 they clearly don’t want to make a proper 1:1 remake? Literally this whole dev team is filled with ppl that worked on the OG ff7 team and they decided to take it in this direction, so maybe they just want a tell a continuation. What’s wrong with that seriously? Not saying it’s not a little scummy to market it as a faithful remake but they did that because the game narratively is written to be that way so it makes sense to market it like that so you can have the big twist, like you said the OG FF7 will never be forgotten it’s an iconic game and the team wanna tell a continuation of that so I respect it

    • @eustass4491
      @eustass4491 3 года назад +1

      @superc37 I literally agreed with you that it was scummy to marketed as a faithful remake but I think the team wanted it to be a surprise to fans like from the trailers it because outside of the end of part 1 it FEELS like a remake it’s not until the end you realize what’s going on

    • @redhexon1614
      @redhexon1614 3 года назад +2

      @superc37 @superc37 if they make 1 to 1 remake then we will not have this kind of conversation and speculation, look at the resident evil remake its a good game but i doubt this generation of players will talk about it for the next 20years that's what i meant disappear on the radar. nothing becomes a masterpiece on purpose, yes that is correct but good creators will always strive for a masterpiece art. They dont want it to follow the shadows of the OG but want to stand beside it or maybe surpass it which will never be if they just made it the same game with updated graphics, I think thats why the devs take it in this direction, they're not making this game for nostalgia sake alone but want to give new generation players their very own ff7 experience, but maybe im wrong im not with the dev team. Part 1 is a great game but it has some issues, especially the pacing at the end part, i also dont want them to change the major plot points of the story and i feel that they won't, i read some news about the recent translation of the latest release of the ultimania, where toriyama said that they are still following the main theme of ff7 which is life and death and dealing with loss but then let see what will happen by the end

    "Aerith has a lot of different memories residing within her"
    They literally just confirmed what we all thought: the Aerith we see in Remake is likely the same Aerith from the original, with all the memories and knowledge of what happened before.
    She also let it slip that she knew about "take care of Marlene". Tifa was visibly confused but didn't question it.
    This puts a really interesting twist on Aerith's big speeches in Ch 17 and 18. Since the Whispers were trying to take her memories away and now they're destroyed, she realizes she is now free from her original fate of what happened the first time.
    The way Sephiroth killed her cannot possibly happen the same way now, as they both know how it happened before. It seems like they may be setting up for something far more cruel and shocking.

If the man is smart, he'd make sure she survives because then her ability to manipulate the Lifestream would be far more limited in nature.

      I know this is a year late but... screw it, might as well say it; I really like Nero, I feel like he and Weiss could be good characters... IF they're not used for plot purposes. Nero and Weiss work a lot better in the Yuffie DLC than they did in DoC because they're not really plot relevant characters; they're bloodthirsty killing machines who enjoy the thrill of the hunt and the suffering they impose on others and I feel like the same is true for all of the Tsviets if they ever attempt to use them in the games again. When you fight Nero at the end of the DLC and there's no heavy plot reason for the fight to happen other than the fact that it's a fight to the death because he wants it to be that way, that just works so well for the character and it really lets them shine. I will say this until the day I die; the Tsviets aren't bad characters, the original plot that they were thrown into was and it just reflected on them really poorly.

      It was never confirmed that it is time travel. Everybody uses this frame, because saying "time travel" is faster than, "oh, the characters has knowledge about the future". Time travel was not confirmed in any way or form, only that two characters (Seph and Aerith) has knowledge regarding the future.
      (It is painfully clear that Sephiroth does know about what should happen till the end of Advent Children (his last appearance), possible even more. For those, not believing this, go watch Advent Children with english subtitle and japaese voice acting, then go and watch translations of the japanese version of Remake. Many things was lost in localisation, but in the original language, it screams that Seph has future knowledge.)
      So before complaining about time travel, the fact of time travel should be confirmed - and it is not. They have knowledge, and that can be gathered in a various form. Yes, time travel is one, but not the only one. Clairvoyancy, lifestream stuff, memories sent back in time or through lifestream...
      And by the way, there is time materia in the game, which means messing with time is possible.

    The situation seems to be more or less what I thought it was; Sephiroth and Aerith are time travelers, but in somewhat different ways. My theory is that Sephiroth has _physically_ traveled through time in some kind of post-AC form. His _physical_ presence is not supposed to be there, but he's so powerful that the whispers basically can't stop him, so they just try to correct for what he's screwing up. This means there are actually two Sephiroths in FF7R. The current one, trapped in Mako in the Northern Crater, and the future Sephiroth, fucking with Cloud and trying to gain control of fate itself.
    Aerith, on the other hand, has _spiritually_ traveled back in time via the Lifestream, and is inhabiting her old body, but with future memories. The Whispers keep attacking her because they know she's not supposed to have these memories, but they can't take all of them away so, again, they just try to keep things relatively on track.
    But now they are gone. So either Aerith, Sephiroth, or _both_ are now free to go off track and get into some wild shit.

    • @danomitedan
      @danomitedan 10 месяцев назад +1

      I think Aerith technically has not time traveled, she just looked into the future. All of OG FF7 was an outcome she watched. That’s why the end of OG FF7 lines up with the beginning of Remake. She opens here eyes after seeing everything. Also, I think Cloud sees the future because of either touching Aerith, or Sephiroth’s cells somehow. The game made it clear that Advent Children is the “bad ending” so if Advent Children Sephiroth has traveled back in time, they should be able to stop him by making Advent Children never happen. Advent Children Sephiroth would not want to do anything that erases him until he completes his mission

      It was more of a meta sequel with only Kaworu being the one keeping his consciousness through a cycle of eternal return through the multiverse and being the same guy in every Eva incarnation, and Shinji gaining some awareness of previous lives while in the anti universe (which feels like the embodiment of "meta" stuff, a place outside the Evaverse where the writers' creativity exists). The rebuild verse still feels parallel to the OG.

    I’ve come to think that the “different timelines” we see may possibly be the real world where the main game takes place and the world where Zack, Biggs, Jessie etc are “alive” is actually taking place inside the Lifestream.
    We see Aerith and Zack both talking to Cloud “beyond the grave” in AC.
    To me it’s the only thing that negates the whole wibbly wobbly timey wimey stuff.

      THAT'S exactly what came into my mind, especially because when Zack enters the church, it's completely white behind him like in AC. It says "different world" which could mean timeline. But I think it means the Lifestream, the stream of consciousness. In the regular ending, we see Zack carrying Cloud and passing the group. In the Intergrade ending, Cloud is nowhere to be seen even though Zack calls out to him.
      The church looks different with the wood detailing still there in the back unlike in the Remake where the wooden beams are missing. The wooden beams are present though in Crisis Core, FF7 OG, AND Advent Children, but not in FF7R. Something is up.

    Honestly, here's what I would do: I would present the players with a choice. Basically, there is a way to save Aerith so she doesn't have to die. However, there's a cost to do so, and it's a deep one. And it's up to the players whether they pay that or not. Because for years and years and years, people have wanted a way to save Aerith, and this would basically be a test to see who is wants it the most and what are they prepared to sacrifice to get it.

    This MIGHT be a stretch but another thing that leans toward Aerith being some sort of spirit is when Chadley tries to scan her he gets confused and says something along the lines of "oh I can't seem to find you in my database".
    Chadley was created by Hojo which in turn would give him access to ALL of the R & D servers and databases that shinra has compiles over all the years. He can use those as resources to cross reference information/data which we can assume would include information about human anatomy.
    We know that Aerith literally LIVED in the shirna building with her mother and it would be safe to say they have "data" on both of them which Chadley would have access to.
    Aerith goes to the top of the plate from time to time to sell flowers. Getting to the top of the plate requires you to have an ID that is scanned to make sure you as a passenger are who you say you are. If there is a BODY on the train that gets scanned and doesn't have an ID or is the wrong ID for that person then the alarm goes off. If this Aerith is a spirit of some sort she would be able to bypass those scans no problem because the scanners are only looking for physical organic matter not spirits.
    The last thing that leads credence to this is Chadley was able to "scan" Yuffie, who isn't a midgar resident, never rode on the train(s), but IS human and not a spirit and her "results" of the scan qualified her as an "acceptable" candidate. This shows that a bare minimum Chadley has advanced knowledge of PHYSICAL bodies and can perform scans on them whether they reside in midgar or not.
    Oh and one more thing, these revelations max brought to the fore say that the whispers are trying to take away knowledge that she has, "every time the whispers touch me they take a piece of me". Like she's has knowledge that she shouldn't, cloud being a merc, who marlene is, sephiroth being alive (*close up of mouth* "oh......right"), Red13 saying that he gained knowledge of the whispers when Aerith touched him.
    This leans HEAVILY that as one person said "Aerith and Sephiroth are playing on new Game + and only acting like it's their first play through". The whispers knows this and are constantly trying to keep their mouths shut about things that the current cast knows nothing about.
    This is just my 0.02.

    Some really great thoughts max! The areas that really trip me up with this ultimania, besides being generally really quite boring. Pointing out alot of obvious unexciting things. But the few that are pretty juicy really don't lead us onto any kind of consistent breadcrumb trail. There's time travel/future speak, but then theres talks about loss and players surviving in 'another world' (very lifestreamy based).
    To me I hope that this other world is the lifestream, but one corrupted and corporealized by Seph. I mean we've seen them setup lifestream environments that are indistinguishable from reality, aka the people in it dont even know when they are in it. And to me it suits much better that is where Jessie is. They teased Zack (stamp) working with Avalanche (moogle) in intermission and Im hoping Zack is essentially there to fight for the soul of the planet. A proxy where we get insight to those who have died but are still fighting for redemption, which Jessie was very key to portraying in MWTTP. And we get to see the corrupted state of the lifestream, all the while Cloud and co are fighting in the 'real' world.
    It ties nicer imo but if they have indeed just made an 'alt' timeline where those who died are actually still alive. It will still be amazing to see the 7 second decision of that fall to Cloud. Its a choice to save those who's deaths he has felt the guilt/burden of, versus accepting it and truly living with those who are with him now (dilly dally shilly shally). Its accepting the present/impermanence instead of being trapped by the past. Oddly accepting destiny despite breaking the wheel of it.
    It all works perfectly with Clouds character and the next evolution of his character arc. But introducing timeline or space/time lore to a game that has ample plot devices at its disposal, like the lifestream, seems the inferior route. Theres a million ways an alt lifestream could be happening & how Seph could have made it such. Theres zero I can think of for how he could make an alternate timeline/world or how those time elements would be reconciled by the end. Heres to hoping Square got their genius caps on ;)

      I'm hoping for the same that the other world is the Lifestream and we get to see the ones we've lost help Cloud and the others in their journey to save the planet. What really gets me is the church beams in Zack's cutscene. Those beams are not in FF7R, but they in CC, OG, and AC. Cloud and Aerith aren't present with Zack because they haven't died yet. We see Zack and Cloud in the first ending, yes, but in Intergrade Cloud is nowhere to be found and when Zack enters the church, it's completely white behind him which reminds me of AC.

It gave Sephiroth a chance to succeed but it’s also given Cloud a chance to save Aerith. This is reinforced by Aerith’s comments about the open sky and how it scares her.
