That's all I hear, every time. Also, you put "in the eye of the pathos daughter", but it pretty clearly says "faithless daughter". Finally, I hear "take us forever", and you put "changes forever". That one might be right but it's not how I hear it. Judging by the writing credit at the bottom, I assume you copy+pasted this from a lyric website, in which case it's they who are wrong. Sadly even the most reputable lyric websites aren't reliable 100% of the time. Guess the only way to truly find out is to check the original liner notes or ask the person who wrote it. Still a great song either way.

I played 'clean' guitar in an 'indie' band in the early 1980. We wrote and played our own songs. I now realise by listening to this and The Ocean Blue, The Wild Swans etc. that we also had a distintive 1980s sound. It's not all about heavy rock and flashy solos. Oh what fun we had back then. What a glorious musical decade. It's all about melody. Great stuff.
I was the same! Roland Jazz Chorus 120 with out-of-phase Stratocaster sound. I think of this track as way earlier than Ocean Blue; I liked OB a lot (especially their production) but for me they were college while this song is so junior high, early eighties-New Wave-Second British Invasion EPIC. One of the immortal classics. That jangly, stereo chorus solid state guitar sound was all over the early-to-mid eighties; the guitarist for our band got the JC-120 for Christmas sophomore year and we were in AWE. Stereo chorus! The Fixx (“Stand or Fall”), Duran Duran (“Is There Something I Should Know”) and Flock of Seagulls (“Space Age Love Song”) are all iconic examples. Unfortunately, I was the keyboardist in my little band, and wow did I feel lame trying to recreate what was coming out of megabucks Fairlights and PPG Waves and Oberheim xPanders with the meager funds I had. I finally got my hands on a Prophet V by senior year, but that was ‘87 when the era was getting kinda lame. But I wouldn’t trade anything in the world for coming of age during 1977-1986! Music has never been the same.
My God I close my eyes and I'm in the middle of the club 1984. Man where did the time go❗️🤔 34yrs ago, wow. I was 24 years old and having the time of my life✨✨✨

Best part of having older parents is listening to the older music that i might have not listen too if they had been younger. Now i love the 80's music industry
Of all of the phenomenal music of the '80s--and we all know there was a lot--this song has got to be in my all-time Top Ten '80s list. So iconic; transports you back, just like that. Genius track.

This would fill the dance floor at the high school dances in the 80's. so glad I got to dance to all this great music then. And look back with Joy, Fun and Yes ...Awesomeness!!!
I'm lucky I guess, I feel no different now from when this song came out but I'm too old to slam dance any more. Ah, the good ol' days! I want to go back to the 80's.
I just saw the commercial and said “whisper to a scream!” And my husband said “what?” So I found this on RUclips and fully remember how awesome this song was! He recognized the song eventually. 😁
Life defining for some, a hidden gem for others. I love how youtube can help you discover "new" old music. Before you needed a radio DJ, magazines and friends to do that. And there are countless of hidden gems. Sometimes you can even find whole playlists of them. I hope the generation that didn't experience the album-buying-days get to appreciate just how insane that really is and how expensive their playlists would 've been if they should have bought its as records or even cassette tapes back in the mid 80's.
I first heard this song during the mid 90s. I there was a show called “The Retro Request Show” that broadcasted on my local radio station on Sunday nights in Jax,FL. I made many great tapes of music from that show, and still have them toady. I was born in ‘81 and remember a lot of the music from the 80s, but rare and underrated ones like this I discovered a little later. I still love this song.❤
Whilst the wonderful Ian McNabb shouldn't need much of an introduction, it's worth saying that drummer Chris Sharrock is a legend in his own right and has been a member of The Icicle Works, The La's, The Wild Swans, World Party, The Lightning Seeds, Robbie Williams Live, Oasis, Beady Eye and is currently in Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of a girl named Michelle in Vancouver. She used to meet me after work, but I never had the courage to tell her how I felt about her. Now, 30 years later, I hope she's happy.

Heard it first on Scream, then almost a year later on Stranger Things. You can bet I was shocked when I heard the familiar intro at the end of the episode. Perfect.

I agree the '80s had one of the most fabulous pop culture periods in history (I was there, so I admit I am partial!) - but have to agree with Christopher Miller on the other points, heh. And sadly, for LGBTQ people during that period, I acknowledge that it was a time of great fear, grief, and stigma, due to the AIDS crisis that struck so many people in that community. I am _so glad_ an HIV/AIDS vaccine is finally coming out next year - amazing!!
A very underrated drum track. Not as easy as it sounds. There are two here actually. The main kit and the Octobans. The Tama drum company made Octobans, a set of long, thin tom-toms for a brief moment in the 1980's. Look up Billy Cobham for more playing.

I now realise by listening to this and The Ocean Blue, The Wild Swans etc. that we also had a distintive 1980s sound. It's not all about heavy rock and flashy solos. Oh what fun we had back then. What a glorious musical decade.
It's all about melody. Great stuff.
I love The Ocean Blue!!
I PLAYED A CLEAN FENDER STRAT THROUGH A FENDER TUBE AMP; CAN'T BEAT THAT SOUND.... OR A RICKENBACKER THROUGH A VOX AMP...
Ocean Blue getting ready to start a US tour in 2023, I know I'll be there.
My God I close my eyes and I'm in the middle of the club 1984. Man where did the time go❗️🤔 34yrs ago, wow. I was 24 years old and having the time of my life✨✨✨
Goes by so damn fast.
I'm 24 now and its hard to believe I will wake up one day to find my youth gone.
Yeah but you're forever 80s...you got to experience the best decade ever!!!!!you're still 80s....80s never dies....
HUGO 562 , Amen to that ✨🙏🏼✨❗️
I know that feeling...
I am a teenager right now and I have always loved this music since i was s child, I cannot forget the beauty of 80s music...It's indescriptible
Who is still listening to this amazing song in 2024?! 🫡
Me sir:) 😎 😊 my favorite since highschool')

My first dance with my husband. All those years ago. Thanks Esoteria Milwaukee, WI
The BRITISH INVATION started with this awesome band ,The BEATLES. I met my beautiful wife hearing and dancing to this particular song. What A Ride and it's still as exciting now as it was on that dance floor hearing this particular song. LOVE THIS SONG.
And just like the Beatles, Icicle Works where also from Liverpool.
Can't beat the drums on this song
jnorth1000 then you've never listened to Bow Wow Wow or Adam Ant. Same drum styles. It's called a "Burundi Beat".
I LOVED THOSE BANDS!!!
So true

@@johnhewick1145 Thank you - I was _wondering_ what that style of drumming was called!
No one makes song this cool anymore. A beautiful energetic display of 80s dynamo.
I’m not sure if there’s a song that reminds me of the 80’s and my youth more than this one! The beginning of this song triggers a playback in my mind of a much happier time in the world!
Goddess, what great percussion work! Not just the drums, their percussionist just drives this song!
Just a fantastic driving beat!
80’s music still rocks!
Hard to believe its 40 years old. Sounds so fresh.
A classic song from the days of my youth. Awesome.
Best part of having older parents is listening to the older music that i might have not listen too if they had been younger. Now i love the 80's music industry
One of my favorite songs of all time. I'm a bass player and this song has been with me for a very long time.
Of all of the phenomenal music of the '80s--and we all know there was a lot--this song has got to be in my all-time Top Ten '80s list. So iconic; transports you back, just like that. Genius track.
Can't beat the message the song delivers and that killer bassline.
Some things take forever
But with building bricks of trust and love
Mountains can be moved
Love come, down upon us 'til you flow like water
Burning, with the hope of insight
Feathered, look they're covered with a bright elation
Stolen, in the sight of love
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream
Birds fly, in the eye of the faithless daughter
Broken, at the bitter end
Wasted, sacrifice for a new nirvana
Night time, sends us on our way
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream
A whisper to a scream
A whisper to a scream
A whisper to a scream
A whisper to a scream
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream
We are, we are, we are but your children
Finding our way around indecision
We are, we are, we are ever helpless
Take us forever, a whisper to a scream

1984: Icicle Works: A Wisper to a Scream.
Back in the day our company Promedia was located in Sloan Square London where we started creating music videos.
Icicle Works was one of our first low budget videos that was scripted, shot and edited in one day. I miss those carefree years
in the music industry riding a creative wave in the time of stellar music.
Promedia: Terry Braun Director. Chris Humphries Producer. Roby Braun art director/designer.
This would fill the dance floor at the high school dances in the 80's. so glad I got to dance to all this great music then. And look back with Joy, Fun and Yes ...Awesomeness!!!
I was singing the lyrics to myself tonight and had to play it. A beautiful piece of music. The drumming and lead vocals tie it together.
Stranger things credit section brought me here was watching an episode and when it went off I heard this during credit role out what a blessing
Great band and song
What a catchy song, rhythmic tribal drumming .!!!! LOVE IT> Classic 80's.
Love this song, great balance of instruments and lyrics.
Just really good 80's 1 hit wonder. Part of a great decade of 80's music.
A lot of 80's songs are fun to listen to---but many have true and deep meaning; like this masterpiece from Icicle Works!!!
2024 and this still rocks me.
Music like this is what made my teenage years Great 👍 👌 🙌 👏
Love this song.
Thank you to the Remember video series for pointing me to this gem of a song 🙏🏾
This song is so underplayed! This is the song played at a summer barbecue or at a bonfire chillin with your friends.
Another great song that at the time didn't get as high in the charts as it should. 1984. What a year for music.
I love this band and this is my favorite song of 1984 and I am still jamming to it in December 2020
You know you're getting old when this is the music intro of Fidelity retirement account!
I'm lucky I guess, I feel no different now from when this song came out but I'm too old to slam dance any more. Ah, the good ol' days! I want to go back to the 80's.
I just saw that commercial and was like what you stole icicle works! Now I'm listening.
@dboatrig You didn't already know immediately the band and title? Shame...
@dboatrig Also use Shazam duh
This is a perfect piece of sunshine! The drums are phenomenal
Love this song :-)
That drummers got mad skills!
Love this song.. wanted so much more from this band.. love the opening guitar and the sound of those drums..
What a belter! Transports me right back to the 80's!
thanks for the music Ian , it's still wonderful
Take me back ! this is always one of the best !80s songs
I came here because I miss my youth. Greetings from Texas.
I'm from Texas too🇨🇱
Yo tambien.
ive had these lyrics in my head from the 80s, and yet ive got love is a wonderful colour, , great to hear this again.
Im proud growing up with this music!
Chris sharrock is the best drummer I've ever seen.
Cast?
He is a great drummer for sure 😎😎

Thanks Stranger This for showing me this masterpiece
Best of the best ..... drums. Best played nice and loud.
If I had to pick 10 songs that defined my 80’s experience through music, this would be one of them, if not the top one. Fkn masterpiece
Reminds me of The Sundays. Love that jangly guitar.
Every time I hear this song, it reminds me of a girl named Michelle in Vancouver. She used to meet me after work, but I never had the courage to tell her how I felt about her. Now, 30 years later, I hope she's happy.
One of my favorite songs😍 forever! Have it on vinyl🥰
40 years later....still my all time favorite song
MTV Flashback almost 35 years ago ..April 1984 ( VHS tape no time stamp ) 95 minutes uncut . This video played . My wife asked me out a few times before i said yes , She was 20 , I was a Junior at my high school . I cant believe this song is from then...........
I love 80s, the best times.

Forty years ago, Birds really did Fly! Icicle Works and this song and video were so underrated.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was lucky enough to see them live here in CA back in 84 at the Spirit in SD.They put on an awesome show. This whole album if you can find it is so good.
My absolute favorite song
OMG I've missed all this music....the 80's ROCKED!!!!!!!💋
Heard it first on Scream, then almost a year later on Stranger Things. You can bet I was shocked when I heard the familiar intro at the end of the episode. Perfect.
I miss the 80s, better times, wish my kids knew how greatvit was
We had the chance of being nuked by Russia. Iran. Riots in England. Cars were crappy. Gas prices were going up.
Seems similar to today.
@@christophermiller7532 - Are you insane, or a terminal leftist? Russia was never going to do anything, and by the 80's they were so entrenched in Afghanistan it destroyed them. And when hasn't Iran not been A holes? And when haven't there been riots in the UK? And gas was 90 cents a gallon then and steady (the price went up in the 70's dimwit)
Now we have socialists and globalists and militant muslims plotting to take over the entire world with their satanic horrors - grooming gangs, eating babies, transgender everything, corrupting and perverting every child they can find.... and dimwits like you saying there's no difference. How about it's LONG past time for people like you to STFU.
@@christophermiller7532 - That nitwit sounds like a Trump-supporting American. I don't know that it's safe to tempt him to go on a shooting spree... That being said, WHITE DUDES "WHITING" is - by far - the greatest thing I've read in any internet comment EVVVVVERRRRRRR! That was awesome!
@@56squadron Very well said! Thank you!
A very underrated drum track. Not as easy as it sounds. There are two here actually. The main kit and the Octobans. The Tama drum company made Octobans, a set of long, thin tom-toms for a brief moment in the 1980's. Look up Billy Cobham for more playing.
and still make octabans...:)
So, there are two drummers--one on the drum kit and the other on the Octobans?
Leigh Ann I Am No, there was primarily one drummer. Though, the bassist added some occasional percussion on the Octobans.
meredrums1 Thanks nerd
Underrated in your mind...
