This is by far the best video on whole youtube, period. All this new and unbelievable footage, placed so perfectly together that far exceedes any kind of "compilation". Not to take away anything from those videos, but this just captures the real, nonschalant spirit of grB. But I have one question, I hope some of you will have an answer. I was wondering what was the last stage that remained the fastest from group b era, and with what car? Nowhere did I managed to stumble upon a solid answer, and is valuable info. Bye all :)
You sir are a gentleman and a scholar and your comment shall be pinned at the top for all to see!! Too answer your question. Finland is often described as the fastest rally in the world championship - and rightly so. However, the fastest average speed in an individual special stage was recorded in 1983 in Argentina. It took Stig Blomqvist just 25 minutes 48 seconds to complete the 81.5 kilometres of the ‘Fray Louis Beltran-Valle Azul’ special stage. That’s equivalent to an average speed of 189.53 km/h! That’s around 30 km/h below the potential top speed of his Audi quattro. The most fascinating thing of all is that Blomqvist didn’t even inspect the special stage beforehand. Due to lack of time, he drove using the notes he borrowed from his team colleague Hannu Mikkola. I think the fastest Group B car when it came down to just top speed was the Toyota Celica TCT when it did the Safari and Ivory coast's rallys. The stages are do long you could afford to have top speed over acceleration.
Agreed somehow you have constructed the video in a way that captures the era. Ff to minute 14 (don't you dare lol) and catch Marku Allen saying go like hell! turn up volume to max ....and hang on..
If you are talking about the era and not the rallys itself, I'd say that the Hillclimb of Pikes Peak in the USA was the last action of those awesome cars. Walter Röhrl drove up that "hill" in 10.47.08 minutes. The whole road is paved now and the record time up to date is 7:57,148 minutes. To me a legendary record and a car that was a firespitting monster driven on the brink of death by true geniuses. This video is in German but you can see the Audio S1 quattro E2 and a Peugeot in action pumping up to the moutain top. ruclips.net/video/d8nKhhMJtvc/видео.html
"Too pure to last on this earth." And then I rolled my Quattro 15 times into a crowd of people, injuring 30 and killing myself, my co-driver, and 2 spectators. I miss Group B but I don't miss the insane danger that emanated around it.
Andersng1 I’m pretty sure the wrc fiesta has abs, traction control, active diffs, paddle gears, most likely active damper control also. Toys to these beasts in comparison
@@Diesel8290 No, modern rally cars have surprisingly little technology in them, but it wasn't always like that. Up until the mid 2000's WRC cars had few regulations regarding high-tech driving aids. Most cars had ABS, TC, active diffs and active dampers etc. From 2010 up until 2015 Rally cars were mostly mechanical. Since then a few changes in the rules has allowed certain things such as active center-differential and electronic gear shifting (paddle shift).
The Group B 1986 lineup was absolutely legendary. Such a variety of cars. But what makes Group B truly special is what it COULD have been. Had Group B lasted another year before the events that claimed it took place, not only would the Ford RS200 build more of a name for itself, but Toyota would've entered the 222D, Porsche the 959, Peugeot the 405, Audi and Ferrari were running new prototypes, and the Mazda RX-7 rotary would've been further tweaked as well.
Peugeot had already done enough work for a third evolution of its T16 and the Delta S4 would have had a year under its belt and the reliability problems Ironed out. 1987 would have been a great year.

I've always been a road/track type of guy that has always been around track race cars, like my fathers drag car at the track. I didn't know rally was my passion until I went on a drive with my father (me driving) in our rhino ATV (fucking high as shit but whatever) on a very narrow trail with sand/mud/water/dirt/and rocks. I wanted to see what it was like going fast and doing four-wheel drifts off road at high speeds with jumps and just crazy scenario in general, so I floored it (cringe, didn't know another way of explaining it) the jumps and drops and satisfying controlled slides is what got me most, and got me wondering about the rally scene and ended up here. Thank you for making this video.
God, I got goosebumps watching this. I'm American, and nobody over here has ever heard of Group B, much less rally racing as a whole. I nearly had to go for some "me time" every time the 037 or the Delta poured on the sauce through a corner. It was great to see Walter Rohrl on camera too, as I have nothing but respect for the man. To hell with Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty. Rorhl to me is the greatest of drivers, and was a very modest man. I'm also unusual here, as I am obviously a HUGE Lancia fan. Just found this post. Thank you so much a brilliant piece of work that brings back so many awesome memories of the RAC rally and the group B’s. I’ve spent many nights and days in Kielder setting up and marshalling stages for these guys and they were some of the best times. Top highlights have to be Malcom Wilson testing one of the first RS2000 on the Centurion rally, sitting on Michelle Moutons knee while doing time checks after a kielder stage and seeing Tony Pond putting the 6R4 through a 90 left on sheet ice in the middle of the night in Griezdale ..oh and never forget the sound of all those engines - and there is so much more to remember. @@arjanpetersen no they dont
@@arjanpetersen they accelerate faster but have lower top speeds
Also they have more advanced safety so theyre allowed
@@arjanpetersen yes BUT think if the group-B regulations were in effect today.. people don't understand that.. i was there watching Rally Finland '86 and '87.. the drop was like unbelievable.. like Markku Alen said, the cars felt there was no engine at all.. of course development happens over the years and cars get faster..
Close you're eyes
Listen to the sounds, no stupid music to spoil the real music that comes from the car's themselves,
Enough to give you WET dream's,
If these thunderous sound were on a quiz show and you couldn't even see each car. You could still identify each one as they are so unique, OH! Love this video so much I coming back, GROUP B
Don't cry because it's over
SMILE because it HAPPENED.
for me it has been many years since I followed RALLY. This videao and stupendous come back me so many memories you have made a masterpiece and deserve to the great any possible praise.
after the gr.B nothingness I lost the interest to follow the competitions
thank you again BEAUTIFUL.
Thanks for the kind words :)
Beautiful amazing spectacular..One word...group b...the beast inside..🏁🏎️😈🖤
Rally nowdays is so incredibly boring compared to the mid 80's...
Great video.
C98KOG (the 6R4 seen within the first 2 minutes) is still alive. Registered as SORN. Nice to know it still exists somewhere, hopefully in someone's cherished collection.
I found the guy explaining to Walter Rohrl what understeer was hilarious, like he didn't know! Love these videos without commentary or music.
Really high quality video, thanks for putting in the effort to get all of this footage and present it in an accessible way, it is very much appreciated.
I just downloaded a vid of me driving a lancia 038 on dirt rally and then I came across this vid, absolutely brilliant, thank you for this ;)
Welshboyuk76 I do like Dirt. Best game for the Group B cars.
Marvdogger2 it sure is, oh and also I have LIKED AND SUBSCRIBED ;)
A special video of a very special time. The in between footage is as good as the driving footage. Good show!! Sad I can only like it once!
Possibly the best rally video on here. Fantastic work and thank you
I'm so glad but also surprised that there's so much video footage of Group B. These days it seems everything is recorded but I didn't know the technology and desire to record would be there in the 80s to have this much footage.
I remember my grandfather's home video camera in the 90s being the size of a microwave. To have this much coverage of rally in the 80s is fantastic.
They shot more during the Group B years than they do of rallying now.
Greetings from France ! The golden age, so good memories.
Thanks !!
.... And happy new year 😉
There’s no music just the most beautiful sound😉
That was a surprisingly good video, one of the best I've seen. More please !
thanks sir.
Thanks Marv for a great video ! For us rally enthusiasts, the sound of those spectacular Group B cars is music to our ears !!
Aaaaaahh - wonderful without the ever annoying music. Thank you !

this is the best compilation of group b rally i have ever seen.
thank you so much.
I've been watching your videos for years. so happy you're still putting out new stuff! Cheers!
I've been doing it a while now!! I think since 2005, Group B Crazy fans was 2007 but that no longer available to watch anymore, blocked in over 250 countries by youtube.
The most complete Group B video by far! Very rare footage! Sweet Mama!
I've watched this video probably about 10 times already
i watch this when i'm having a bad day, it's just sort of relaxing in a weird way, thank you for posting this!
I’m super shocked on how nice and unique this footage is !
Thank You.
Special GIFT for US from YOU Marv at the start of 2018. Thank You, and Happy New Year. Respect.
Splitting from the racers. I was particularly impressed at the mechanic's having to perform such delicate work in sometimes, such short time, in sometimes such unfavourable condition's.
Thanks for providing it without music, unfortunately some clueless people spoil the video by putting music on.
Love it. Wish more vids had no music. Makes it a true great documentary 👍
I absolutely love this nothing but the sound of that straight five engine.
Phenomenal footage both in historical importance and emotion.
I was fortunate to watch Group B and it changed my view of motorsports entirely.
"no music" made me click, I wasn't disappointed 😁
The best compilation I've seen so far...well done!
Yesss excellent! This is the best place for group B rally videos!
This video makes me feel some type of way... absolutely amazing.

No music just engines
Perfect
Für mich war (ist) Walter Röhrl der beste Fahrer unserer Zeit.
Its just amazing how close the fans are getting to the action and how hard the drivers are driving in spite of all this chaos.
Nice Marv!!! You are the Group B man on RUclips greetings from Brasil
Love group b wish they could bring it back.
All these cars are fantastic.
Absolutely brilliant footage, thank you!
Happy New Year Marv! Thanks for this beautiful tribute. I’ve never seen a channel with such dedication to a single moment of motorsport, and I deeply thank you for showing us all the artform of Group B rally.
So cute how Walter Röhrl starts to answere the German interviewer in English after a few words realizing what he's doing :D
Rally Official in the Beginning of the 1980s: Lets take a fat Engine with enough Power to pull a Truck, put it into tiny Cars, and use it to fly over Gravel!
All Rally Drivers: Ok lets go.
5:03 for some reason, knowing about how dangerous Group B cars were, that idle alone scares me.
Timo Makinen talking to Ari, two absolute legends, World Champions in Mk2 Escorts!
Doing the ice notes for him.
