And John Haugland's Skoda Estelle battling to stay ahead of a Talbot Samba (13:55)... wonderful stuff.
This is absolutely mindblowing about 2:17, because any another tapes does not have such detailed vision about this little accident, that could be literally turned into disaster, incredible Alen actually saved his bolide with 360 turn after full speed! All these years I was wondered WHY Markku Alen slowed down there... (is it some kind of team tactics or what, why?!). Because all another view-angles has been closed by trees around the road. And ONLY here we can CLEARLY see WHAT exactly happened there. This is literally shockingly thrilling moment. And all quality overall is astonishing including detailed audio with little wishpering at downshifts Delta S4's or roar&boiling Quattro S1's engine sounds. Incredible.

Lancia and Audi looked and sounded like rockets... We all know that... But wow! Even the little Skoda 130 sounded and raced great... I miss roadside service so much, with so many people around the cars!
Fantastic quality, the tapes must of been stored in perfect environmental conditions. The tracing from the lights could be due to the Saticon tube video camera.

Les images sont superbes…. Bien sûr que celles d’aujourd’hui vont plus vites et freinent plus forts mais les Groupe B… c’était autre chose. Sûrement aussi parce qu’on était plus jeune…..
Interesting Vid,That Was Olivers Mount Were the Delta S$ Spun and i have Driven around that a Lot,Its Not much Wider Than a Car So to Do a 360 and Not Roll Down a Big Cliff Was Some Luck or amazing Skills etc.
It was a 5 speed double clutch gearbox from Porsche. Porsche ran the gearbox very succesfull in their Group C car 962. It had the same operating principle like modern double clutch gearboxes. I think the driver had to give the down or upshifting signal by hand.
When rallying was a gritty challenge which could be enjoyed by the spectator. Not the sanitised crap we have these days usually spoilt further with never ending brain dead commentary.

it was porshe pdk gearbox prototype. I don't know if it was operated by a lever like in today's rally sequentials, but it sounds like automatic.
