Only the Italians could go full mental by putting on a supercharger and a turbo. Audi revolutionised rallying, but Lancia perfected it. Incredible that a Delta S4 sold for over a million dollars in 2019. Jodie I have to say that I was turning green with envy watching you drive that car, soooooooooooooooo jealous.

As a rally aficionado and Group B in particular, this is the peak of Engineering. 1.8l engine, supercharged and turbocharged and the Lancia Engineers managed to wring out nearly 500bhp from the thing and a sub 3 second 0-60. Have to say, Jodie, I’m instantly jealous.

I am an avid rally fan but today I can't be bothered to watch WRC. The Regs have become incomprehensible to satisfy the 'Green' agenda and all the cars look the same, especially in their version of urban camouflage. At least in historic rallying, which is equally exiting, the various cars are instantly identifiable. In Group B when the shackles of development were off, each manufacturer came up with a different solution - Audi Sport, Austin Metro 6R4, Ford RS 200, Lancia S4, Peugeot T16 etc.

All rally cars have to be street legal, whether they are a production saloon or a Group B car or now a WRC car, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get from stage to stage. One point to note is that in the S4 the straight alloy fuel tank was located under the driver's seat and that was reported as contributing to Toivanen's death that saw the end of Group B. The other contributing factor was the alloy roll cage that actually burnt in the intense fire

Am sitting here imaging how to change gears with you with the sense of rawness. A great car at a time when racing was exciting.

The whining noise it makes is the supercharger at the lower rpm range, that is less at higher rpm because a special clutch system disengages the super charger and the turbo charger takes over at the higher rpm!

Maybe just a few fractions more than that, but still waaaay under 3 secs. The DeltaS4 Boys were reporting faster times on gravel than on tarmac roads🙄🙄
