looking back at this is truly insane, oh how thrilling it would have been to see one of those cars in real life! also the people driving them a bunch of legends!
@@sugarnads If Henri and Sergio hadn't died in Corsica, they would have won the world championship. Excluding the B groups, the Lancia Delta won several world titles. The technology of the S4 was light years ahead, its potential was only at 70%, if Audi had revolutionized the S1, the new treflux engine would have disintegrated everyone.🇮🇹
A great time, a time before eliminating group b was even on anyone’s radar. The future was exciting for rally. It was so popular in much of the world at that time. And such a beautiful variety of cars, all with novel design solutions to going fast on loose surfaces. Beautiful! The drivers were so talented and courageous, it was a time when mistakes could literally cost a driver his/her (❤️Michelle Moulton😍 and Louise Walker❤️) life. Competition at this level represented so much more at stake for the drivers of the time. Much like F1, there was a genuine and often arbitrary risk to ones life. Such risk created tragedy for sure, but it also raised the drivers in my eyes. It took genuine courage and skill to succeed.
That 84-87 period was the pinnacle of motorsport. Enormous new turbo power that only the best drivers could master. Not always with 4wd. Formula 1 had over 1400hp for qualifying laps. The technicians were the best, the drivers had to be fearless and constantly attack to learn new limits. Brilliant.
William Wollard, what a great presenter, both on Top Gear and Tomorrow's World. I remember when the rally had "Duel" by Propaganda as a opening title tune...the days of the Audi Quattro as king.
Just found this channel . Absolutely fantastic . Thanks for sharing all these videos . Great memories of the rallies of my childhood and youth in the 80s and 90s .
I was there! have the photos to prove it motor drive on camera picked up about 4 shots the joined in with the other spectators to get it back on its wheels brilliant rally and of course went on to win.
"He could have damaged suspension if he hit the log" Umm.. I have a sneaking suspicion that there could have been more serious issues.. there's literally a wall made of people D:
When that Lancia Delta S4 The Entire Championship dominated by flying Finn in beginning of Full Season 1986 But sadly, after Tour de Course...it has to be ended...tragicly
I was a time marshal at Weston Park in 85 and 86. Group B was awesome

Welcome aboard!
What a legend Toivonen was. Ton up through the speed trap, turns turtle, still wins. Still that modest good humour and wry smile too!

I think he meant to say...my goodness me he could've mangled that crowd of spectators..💥
Bring back the Lombard RAC rally,
Remember watching group b , nothing like it ever
@14:29 27 special stages down, 38 to go. That makes a total of 65 stages. Those were the days......
When that Lancia Delta S4

Nearly got run over by Markku Allen at a service point on this rally, great memories...
TOP GEAR🙌🙌🙌
“Both demonststing there was going to be a battle royale in 1986” if only it didnt kill Group B
The BBC were always crap filming night stages.
