I'm an engineer and watching verrry carefully. I see how subassemblies are done, but some of the issues with clearance and shimming I get, others I'm lost. He's got the unique combination of speed and detail. He's a freaking master. I'm very impressed as well.

Not a good idea to learn a new job like this in these changing times . The green guys are about to ruin the automotive industrie. There still will be some automatic transmissions around in the future but there will also be a rebuild industrie (small shops like these ) around there will be not enough work for all of them. I am 58 living in Germany and boy i tell you the good times are gone.Green Party will run this Country to the ground ....real quick !!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes i think i am lucky to be 58 cause i had a rich life ,Family and a good job at the FORD Motor Company´s development centre here in Cologne. I'm 62. I know all about the chemical cleaner induced "shakes" brother. That stuff almost got me. Anytime a man has to work in any chemicals this can happen. A 40 year service tech knows what I'm talking about. There's no way you can wear gloves of any kind and do this job. You have to feel your way thru the assembly. If c.i. neuropathy hasn't damaged the hands. (Starts at the fingertips) chemicals and metal powder ingestion (heavy metals) are hard on the nerves. Literally. Stay well brother! Your one of the best I've ever seen. Seniority has its perks. Folks if you need one done go see this man.

Brother. Learn as much as you can from your dad. My deepest regret is that I didn't learn much from my dad before he passed. He was one of the three guys that wrote the ASE certification program. He was a master mechanic and passed down a bunch of those tools and I have absolutely no idea what they are for and how to use them.
As a transmission builder, I really enjoy your videos. You do put a lot of info in just the teardown vids, you do great work and that's rare these days. Much respect cause I have tried to make videos while building and it is difficult.

I'm more into hobby machining, although have done a little shade tree wrenching. Love watching someone with so much knowledge to share. I know enough to stay out of transmissions lol.
I remember being told many years ago about how intricate and complex auto-transmissions were and my naive response was-c'mon how hard can it be ? well,extremely hard as it happens,you'll never learn this on a couple of years at college,this requires a high level of knowledge,focus and dedication to detail and the main thing LOVE of the job,i.e. you'll NEVER be a professional golfer if you don't LOVE golf to start with.
I'm a DIY guy. I just love watch an artist at work. If I needed a rebuild transmission. I now know where to order one and have it shipped to New Jersey and know what I'm getting is better then new.
I would trust this guy any day with rebuilding my transmission. I currently need my transmission rebuilt and I’m very skeptical of many repair shops. Wish I could ship my transmission to this mans shop. I would spend anything just to have peace of mind knowing a professional with many years of experience rebuilt my transmission. It is very refreshing to see someone very passionate about their job, keep up the great work!

I was an auto mechanic around 50 years ago, give or take. The one thing I would never attempt was rebuilding an auto transmission. Your video has demystified the process for me, but, past the point of that sort of thing now personally. A great pleasure watching a Master Craftsman at work, thank you.
in 1985 I was building for an aamco in Charleston SC back in them days we would average 5 - 350's or 250s a day. the owner had 3 shops. he had all the units cleaned and on a cart. and all kits and hard parts. he had a full time man that just tore down and cleaned units to build for stock. me and another older builder double teamed 350s one day. he built the drums and pumps and I put them in the case. we built 21 in 10 hours! the next day we did 18 and we were tired at the end.
I have nothing with transmissions but when I need any rebuild I want this guy to do it... No BS, tells what is what, and somehow I've already watched a bunch of his videos last few days...

I appreciated it greatly especially on the fuel panels beneath the wings and belly of the CRJ 200's I used to work on since we were forbidden to use any power drills. Tedious panels those are, and that gasket we had to always put back on them never wanted to line up with the holes on reinstall, not matter how much pet we put on em! xD
I rebuilt a 700r4 back in early 2000 I drove it 65 miles and wiped out 3-4 clutch .I will try again soon and will have great success with a video instead of a class manual I found at a thrift store which was very detailed but a picture/ video is priceless 😀
I love watching this, I remember attempting to rebuild the transmission on my old 70 maverick back in 1984, All I had was a crappy book and word of mouth people told me. It worked fine for 25 miles started slipping bad. I had to drive home the last 5 miles in reverse. I can still smell that smell of burned transmission fluid and toasted clutch material. Went to the junkyard and bought a used one for $50 and it lasted the 2 more years I had the car before that old 170 6 cyl engine finally blew.
I started watching his videos so I could rebuild my own transmission. Now I watch them as reminders that I have no business messing with it, and I have no interest in anybody working on it but Precision Transmission in Amarillo. And I live in Nashville. With 250,000 on my factory transmission, it won't be long now.
I've bin watched every night for a month. I'm an ex tugboat captain, crane operator, machinist, welder, fitter, carpenter business owner...I've dome a lot of things....but until these videos I didn't have the slightest idea what was inside an automatic transmission. I still don't understand what I'm seeing but it's terrific seeing father & son who know and love what they are doing try to explain it to us. Thank you! Well done.
Thank you very much for your wonderful videos I just rebuilt my 727 transmission complete teardown replaced everything that needed to be replaced and that you recommended I did all that air pressure test that you guys recommended the pressure test everything replaced all the seals all the bushings all the clutches works great first time thank you so much keep up the good work guys love your videos Did my 1987 Dodge Ram pick up 3/4 ton
To be fair I think a lot of cleaning and prepping and setup of the parts were the hours done prior to the video. As he said all those tolerances had to be just so. Then a final clean of area and parts to begin assembly. Prep work is usually 90% of a job.
The skill set you have is incredible. I work in the aviation industry and every now and then I meet someone like you with so much knowledge and for the short time they're working with me I'm trying to learn. Thanks for the walk through, if I lived near you I'd surely be using you.
Thanks, Guys, That was great. I worked in a shop as a kid and learned C-4, C-6, and 2-speed Powerglide. Then worked DOE and found it required the same skills to work on weapons.

These are truly fun to watch & learn how to address/fix issues as well as how to upgrade one to basically become bulletproof.

Thanks for a super video, In my younger days I did quite a few GM's 350/400 I still have a 71 z28 . .. who knows if I have a few years left I might even get to do another I have a spare TH350 sitting in the garage.
As a former transmission rebuilder I can tell you this guy does the job right. Having said that it’s not as hard as it looks as long as you have attention to detail.
I’ve never had a 350 that didn’t work great. They are a great unit.I always put a special tapered punch in the two line up holes in the bump and then torque bolts.there’s two holes in the pump that are smaller to line up all holes when installing the pump in the case. I install two wider bolts to install perfectly lined up holes and the gasket. The more accurate the better. I torque every bolt no exemption.
I was taught a trick years ago on how to align a th350 pump. Use 2 th350 modulator valves 180 degrees across from each other in the pump bolt holes where it bolts on the case. I've built many th350 like that for years.
I've been a tech for 21 years I've built many engines rear ends ect. I've dont just about anything to a car that can be done besides trans work... I've not had a trans apart since tech school. But I've always wanted to learn because a good transmission man is priceless! Great vids I just found you today
I have the same torque wrench. It was my father's, I believe it was my grandfather's before that. It brings back memories of me and dad working in the shop whenever I use it.
This just my opinion here. This man is an artist just like a painter. There’s plenty of people that paint pictures but there’s the few that really show their talent and this man shows his beautiful experience and and shares what he knows. Subscribed.

I love watching this, I remember attempting to rebuild the transmission on my old 70 maverick back in 1984, All I had was a crappy book and word of mouth people told me. It worked fine for 25 miles started slipping bad. I had to drive home the last 5 miles in reverse. I can still smell that smell of burned transmission fluid and toasted clutch material. Went to the junkyard and bought a used one for $50 and it lasted the 2 more years I had the car before that old 170 6 cyl engine finally blew.
I have so much respect for what you guys do. It’s an art and a privilege to watch. Thank you.

Now I watch them as reminders that I have no business messing with it, and I have no interest in anybody working on it but Precision Transmission in Amarillo. And I live in Nashville. With 250,000 on my factory transmission, it won't be long now.

I've bin watched every night for a month. I'm an ex tugboat captain, crane operator, machinist, welder, fitter, carpenter business owner...I've dome a lot of things....but until these videos I didn't have the slightest idea what was inside an automatic transmission. I still don't understand what I'm seeing but it's terrific seeing father & son who know and love what they are doing try to explain it to us. Thank you! Well done.

Thank you very much for your wonderful videos I just rebuilt my 727 transmission complete teardown replaced everything that needed to be replaced and that you recommended I did all that air pressure test that you guys recommended the pressure test everything replaced all the seals all the bushings all the clutches works great first time thank you so much keep up the good work guys love your videos Did my 1987 Dodge Ram pick up 3/4 ton
Damn this dude can rebuild a transmission in less than 2 hours...that's crazy.
To be fair I think a lot of cleaning and prepping and setup of the parts were the hours done prior to the video. As he said all those tolerances had to be just so. Then a final clean of area and parts to begin assembly. Prep work is usually 90% of a job.
god I miss him doing videos but as busy as the shop is you can't really blame him .
The skill set you have is incredible. I work in the aviation industry and every now and then I meet someone like you with so much knowledge and for the short time they're working with me I'm trying to learn.

Thanks, Guys, That was great. I worked in a shop as a kid and learned C-4, C-6, and 2-speed Powerglide. Then worked DOE and found it required the same skills to work on weapons.

Your knowledge about any/all transmissions is mindblowing to say the least. I've gained a lot of helpful information, I hope somehow some way you will create a video here and there for the fun of it. These are truly fun to watch & learn how to address/fix issues as well as how to upgrade one to basically become bulletproof.
The son sounds proud asf of his dad. That's good because the dad is really really really good at rebuilding transmissions. I don't even know what to say but excellent work.

As a former transmission rebuilder I can tell you this guy does the job right. Having said that it’s not as hard as it looks as long as you have attention to detail.

I’ve never had a 350 that didn’t work great. They are a great unit.I always put a special tapered punch in the two line up holes in the bump and then torque bolts.there’s two holes in the pump that are smaller to line up all holes when installing the pump in the case. I install two wider bolts to install perfectly lined up holes and the gasket. The more accurate the better. I torque every bolt no exemption.

I was taught a trick years ago on how to align a th350 pump. Use 2 th350 modulator valves 180 degrees across from each other in the pump bolt holes where it bolts on the case. I've built many th350 like that for years.

I've been a tech for 21 years I've built many engines rear ends ect. I've dont just about anything to a car that can be done besides trans work... I've not had a trans apart since tech school. But I've always wanted to learn because a good transmission man is priceless! Great vids I just found you today
