That was a beautiful moment with the Jag. Really does get proper excited, its wonderful to see. I needed to see that today. Not because today was bad, it wasnt. Its just that that kind of joy is infectious.

My elementary school principal in the '60's, Mr. Wiebe, had beautiful hardwood paddle that was strategically drilled out for increased velocity. Immediately after the swat, would walk you back to class while the tears were still flowing. A very effective deterrent...

Missed the live show yesterday because mom was in hospital having a quadruple bypass. My little brother, our dad and I had our own TPS while sat in the waiting area for like ten hours as we chatted about guitars and gear while I flipped through the 15 guitar mags and books I brought to keep my mind off things. Mum’s doing well, though. Stoked for you guys and the NGD and Dan’s birthday 🎂 ❤

As a hack theatre pit musician, I can confirm it’s a very different experience to playing more “normal” shows. In regards to the feedback, depending on the setup of your rig, it can be done without sampling. I managed it recently in a show and it was great fun!

I did my first (and last) solo guitarist, singer, songwriter, instrumentalist gig at the age of 64. Two back-to-back 1 hr-ish sets (the second one with less taking between songs). One solid week of practice and rehearsal preceded the event. Too much work to life balance for me. I usually only play 1 or 2 songs a month. I'm just not performance oriented. I love creating and only practice what I don't want to forget.

Mick to constantly look outward for your worth and happiness you forget to enjoy what you have inside yourself so the years just go on never really being satisfied and in the end one misses out on life which should always be your goal to live. For me it’s a tele through a deluxe reverb and a great tune everything else is just noise. Love your show wish i lived in the U.K just so i could catch up with you and Dan to just talk analog and music😄

    Stunning Jaguar!
A one time custom colour (Fender used for a very short period on just a few instruments) that comes close to the Jag’s stunning colour is ‘ ‘69 Ford Mustang Indian Fire’
I know of one Fender Custom Shop precision bass I found on Google.
And, I own one built by a great builder from Holland: Peterbuilt.
He got the original paint from The States back in 2014/15.
Unfortunately, Peter isn’t with us anymore. He died way too young. He was a true music, Fender, and Rickenbacker lover, a great luthier and a very nice ‘Mensch’.
I’m lucky to own three of his basses, wich I’ll cherish forever, and he helped me to bring some of my vintage Fenders back to life.
The Indian Fire, a colour only used on certain Ford Mustangs in ‘69, is a little bit more red-ish or copper-ish than this stunning Jaguar.
    🖖

Great point on what was available at the time vs what the fans now want.
Let’s not forget that Blackmore was one the first to hot rod his strat, and have custom-made Marshall amps… he was genuinely looking to sound bigger and gainier, his signature strat comes with Seymour Duncan Quater Pounders… a very modern sounding guitar! I’m sure he is ok with Deep Purple not using strats anymore.
I play stoner/metal and I use those same pickups on my strat and believe me… it’s metal🤘

  • @eaglerayrob

wcarte2 - I can confirm what Mick said, you really need to play a SSS type amp so you can understand the way they feel. I have an Amplified Nation SSS 100W, Classic Reverb Sig 100W and Super Duchess. I love them all and they pair well in wet, dry and stereo. But the note development/bloom of the SSS is unique, loud, and clean. The thing that is unique about the Cathode Follower in the SSS is that it is post-phase inverter and part of the power section of the SSS. This allows massive amounts of clean power delivery to the Power Tubes. Most Cathode Followers are used in the preamp section. I think the big Ampeg SVT 300 uses a post-phase inverter Cathode Follower too. SSS have a different feel, especially when cranked.

I was wondering the same about that silver guitar....Kahlers aren't for everyone, but once you get a guitar you like with them they are just special as Hell.
I belong to a Kahler group on Facebook and one the key contributors is finishing up a documentary about them which will be out soon.
My number 1 guitar for over 30 years was a Guild S-300 with an aftermarket Kahler and the reason I started collecting guitars is because it was stolen.
It was setup in 1993 by a Fender master-tech and not touched again until a refret by Atomic Guitar Works in Phoenix, AZ in 2010. Hundreds of studio hours and a couple hundred gigs. Always perfect.
One of the most underrated piece of hardware in the history of guitar.

On the talk of choosing amps for wet dry etc. I've gone a slightly odd route... I've got a Blues Deluxe Reissue (retubed and with a power attenuator), a Joyo Tweedy II (incredible little head) and a UAFX Woodrow.
Inspired by the way the Woodrow works in 4-cable method I built a switching set that uses input send and returns to switch between all three preamps. Whilst, the Tweedy and the BDRI are always the two poweramps. I even bastardised my BDRI and recut the speaker baffle to now house the original BDRI speaker and an 8" Jensen for the Joyo's poweramp output and the little speaker (shockingly) sings so well. If I ever just want to use the BDRI on it's own I can use the Jensen into the BDRI's extension speaker output.
So, the chain is Pre-amp pedals > preamp (switched between 3 options) > Wet Dry splitter, which returns dry to Joyo and wet through a plethora, UAFX starlight, then both into the UAFX golden in stereo.
With the two options in the Woodrow (in 4 cable method) and the two channels per Joyo & BDRI, I have so many options... All fairly tweed oriented but that's my jam. I've set it to range from super clean through to almost fuzzy 5E3 cranked vibes.
To make it more confusing, I also made a little send and return switch for the 'dry' signal to also send in through the plethora, giving me a full wet sound if I want.
Happy Birthday Dan! Love you're joy upon receiving that beautiful jag!

It's Johnny's Jaguar, and he can do as he likes with the wiring.
I'm no Johnny Marr; I'm just a git who plays in his room.
His has series/parallel options for the pickups, and fancy pickups, which I think is really cool. Also the stay-in-place vibrato bar and upgraded bridge, I think it has?
I have a much-worn 66. Teen-age me destroyed its resale value 35 years ago by installing a Kahler. Sorry, not sorry.
    About the electronics:
I don't mind the mud circuit, but I don't use it much and wouldn't like turning it on accidentally during a performance.
I *do* like the choke switch for filtering out bass when playing with lots of gain.
The on-off switch for each pickup in the lead circuit is easy enough to understand. I see no reason to want them both to be off, of course, but it isn't strange.

Mick - get those 1 Meg pots out of the Jazzmaster and replace them with 250K, like a Strat or Tele would have. That takes care of much of the oppressive “zingyness” of Fender offsets. Takes about 20 min with minimal soldering skills.
Also, a bit of scotch tape around the wang bar where it comes out of the mounting hole helps with the clicking.

I find Landau's playing to be like the guitar equivalent of Palladino's bass playing.... its not what he does play, but what he doesnt, how nothing is unnecessarily overcomplicated and he serves the song, and when you hear him, its obviously him and its never too much.
An artform in itself to be able to do that.

  • @sanjeevmraman
    @sanjeevmraman 11 месяцев назад

Too bad I missed this- a question whenever you gents can get to it: Have you ever talked about rack guitar preamps, their role and types and what they do for tone? I know it's a very "eighties" piece of gear, but some are available for decent prices on the used market, and I'm interested. Plus, while it may not be a "pedal", I think in the spirit of sound enhancement and tone chasing, I hope it's a relevant question. Cheers from the USA

Aha! Apols. It's currently blowing my mind, Mick here. It's becoming an important piece of a huge psycho/philo/socio jigsaw puzzle that's been building in recent years. Dovetails perfectly with Eckhart Tolle and the Adlerian stuff I've been reading too. Eckhart feels spiritual/philosophical; Adlerian stuff is philosphical/psychological; Kahneman straight psychology. The context of all of it all is the social contexts in which we work and live. This is the stuff they should teach in schools. I'm grateful to have found it eventually.
