Wow. That pilot must have been terrified. Seeing that Flight Attendant rush in yelling about a problem and then being shot right in front of you, and then the killer delivering a killer movie line (so sorry for that pun) before raising his gun up to shoot you...Damn, man. It’s a pity those passengers didn’t go with the off-duty USAir pilot guy and gang up on Burke...So sad.

Couple of years ago I was going down the road that this plane crashed next to. I remember seeing a small weather worn memorial plaque but didn’t think much of it at time. I do remember hearing about a plane crash in the area but after little research I realized this was the one.
Of all the channels doing these kind of videos, Yours are my favorite!
I like the white font size with dark shadow - easy to read on any background. Nice to see that for you, English is clearly your first language :-). Some of the other flight recreation pages on YT have all sorts of issues with font size, proofreading, etc. and rely too heavily on high resolution graphics (ultra-realism nonsense) and self-glorifying presentation style. Keep up your wonderful level of professionalism!

Thank goodness, pilots can now lock the cockpit door from the inside, separating them from the cabin. Most airliners have that option, however, some older aircraft are still being flown by small countries and do NOT have that option, depending on the aircraft, of course. It is very good to prevent unauthorized pax from entering the flight deck. If there is an intrusion or attempt at something untoward in the cabin, one of the flight attendants will advise the pilot immediately and necessary steps will be taken. Flight personnel are all aware of the possibilities of intrusion and overt violent actions now, so it's pretty hard (we hope) to take them by surprise!
When someone has nothing to lose be wary of them.

AZNative43 i just watched the Air Disasters episode. The force of the crash was so bad that the black box was almost mangled. They were able to salvage one piece of the tape, and lo and behold that was the piece that recorded Burke in the cockpit. I highly recommend watch the episode

Yup.
This video is good. However the statements about Air Marshals and pilots given firearms in the US is inaccurate. Federal Air Marshals are on some, but not all, flights. And pilots are not given firearms. However, they have the option to do so, and even then, are required to go through additional extensive training and background checks before being able to carry a firearm on the flight deck.

I flew on BAE 146's on Delta Regional flights back in the '90s...Chattanooga to Cincinnati, and ATL to Chattanooga.
Never flew on a plane that got into the air faster or banked harder....those things were hot rods..

How do we know the contents of the message if it was written on a bag that would have been destroyed in the crash? Or maybe there was no fire, just "disintegration" like the video says?

Unfortunately, there is not an Air Marshal on every flight and not all pilots are part of the Federal Flight Deck Officer (i.e., armed pilots) program. Otherwise, a very good reenactment of the entire event. This is one of the watershed moments in aviation security that we still talk about to this day. Jeff Price, author of the textbook, Practical Aviation Security.
@Mo Abdi What I like about the air marshal program is that the bad guy at least has to take into account that there could be an air marshal on a flight. If you eliminate the program, they know that is one less thing they have to deal with.

I recommend once you get some more subs and enough Patreon supports you should get X-Plane 11 since it has a lot better graphics and much better flying dynamics and with the extra money you could buy the mods to add in the planes you need. Since I have a feeling that's why you stick with Flight Sim X having probably already been invested in it.

What a terrible course of events. Companies that merge will often do anything to force out employees or cut "excess". It wouldn't be usual for someone who stole and was suspected of criminal activity to be begging for their job back, certainly not to the point that he would be enraged enough to kill everyone. Although no rational person would do such a thing at all. Very tragic and brutal for the families of the people onboard.
Can’t think of anything more evil than that. He had to take out 41 other people he didn’t know in his rage.

How could you possibly knew the details of what transpired before the crash when no survivors to tell the story? Is that all recorded in the black box and flight recorder with all those yelling, shouting and possibly crying?

This to me, is one of the most horrible plane crashes of all time. On so many levels. May those souls rest in peace.
Not gonna read all the stuff below but air marshall are only on some flights and pilots are not issued guns except a few that go through the lengthy process of becoming FFDOs. Best detterint is the hardened door after 9-11.
How were they able to know what the note said? Wouldn’t a piece of paper be destroyed in the wreck?
Did the note he wrote to Ray survive the crash? That’s the only way to know what it said. Also, how would anyone know that he went to the lavatory after handing Ray the note if no one survived the crash?

I'm curious how investigators reconstructed certain details -- how the shooter handed the note to the victim, went to the lav, etc. -- when there were no surviving witnesses.

chrishavel it doesn’t have to be a debate. Just use common sense. Since there obviously isn’t any survivors to give an account, then they would have to piece together what happened based on what they hear from the black box and any other evidence that may have been found at the crash site.
Ray Thompson was lucky. Compared to what the others went through, his death was almost a mercy killing.
