In Europe, the Gears of war 2 horde players was most kind to me. They always cheer me up, even I sucked. Halo 2 on the original xbox was the golden age of online gaming for me and alot of friends. It was so new and unexplored on console, almost 0 censorship. So much fun. Even by the time halo 3 and reach came out it was a more watered down experience. It helped launch mlg and pro gaming into what it is today. OG halo titles still live on for multiplayer theres modders who host games and you join session you have to join a discord server but its cool you can still play them online in some way and get achievements you never got the chance to get
The thing that made the 360 so good was that most games were fairly complete and were very straightforward, they made sense and generally tried new things that were constantly evolving with each year and new games you could go back to any time. Xbox One and PS4 meanwhile is a constant race to the bottom, always trying to keep you from playing and trying to make you do anything else with greedy ransomware dlc business and bad games that are half assed and incomplete. Any design that makes money at a cost of customer happiness is a failure that needs to be fixed. And a whole generation of gaming got away with it. Best thing you can do now is just have fun and do what you want. But don’t throw away new technology because a bunch of greedy people messed up. We left 360 to be better and make bigger games. Although we failed, it’s not forever. I’ll take what was good from both generations and make something of my own. We need better or we’ll fall apart to complacency.

The 360 is such a good console you made the right choice. Your best bet to find games that are still alive on the 360 is to play games that are backwards compatible on the new consoles. If you play backwards compatible games there’s more likely to be people playing since they’re able to join in from the Xbox one and series x. Saying Saint row wasn't that popular is crazy definitely can tell you didn't have a 360 during its prime lol difference between games then and now is they aren't focused on player retention because a good game shouldn't need constant updates to keep you playing

The only way to preserve a multiplayer video game especially live service one even after it's dead and people are no longer playing it it's totally just have video game footage. It's literally the only way. You cannot save the original servers and the players on it. So please for the love of God either keep it alive long enough for guys like me to get that footage or get it yourself please. Please you're saving me a huge amount of time and effort. You're doing anybody and everybody who's forwarding preservation a huge favor by doing so. And yes it has to be no commentary. To represent the experience of the game.
