Top water bites on Whopper Plopper is explosive and fun! I use this lure fishing from a pond bank as well and have a lot of fun with it in clear water. It does tend to get clogged up with grass or catch other material in the water. Still, the Whopper Plopper makes for many exciting strikes! Many sizes and colors from which to choose and try.
I thought so, also. To hear Randy talk here it sounds great. Makes me question some of his other sales pitches for other lures. I am a big Randy fan, but this raises some doubts.
I guess you missed the teacher part in the name, just because he may have a different opinion doesn't mean he is doing something wrong for giving advice on how to fish it
On his other channel he teaches, also. On that channel he taught that it was becoming less effective, which he did in this video, also. However, on that teaching video one was left with the impression that the lure had very limited usefulness and would continue to diminish in its usefulness. That is not the same message in the video.
I love the WP esp the 130. Bass & pike love em even more than I do! I know that on the heavily fished waters Randy fishes what he says about these is likely very true but on the less popular rivers & small impoundments I fish in Michigan they’re still extremely effective… no tournaments ever gonna be held on places I fish! The 90, however, has not ever done as well as the 75, 110, or 130 as it doesn’t have the same sound maybe?
@@ericwakeman6665 it's heavy, so hopefully u have a swimbait rod... designed for musky, but bass aren't afraid either...just like catching 2 lb. Bass on 10" Rats
@@ericwakeman6665 I think it's 2 1/2 oz...around there.....check the rating on the rod....I throw it on my Dobyns 795 swimbait rod...which is a great budget rod for bigger lures...
Do you think the Googan Squad Revolver is as good as the Whopper Plopper? The Googan version has the spinning part in the center. I wonder how much difference it makes?
I’ve been using the Berkley Chopper. For me, I found that the Green Frog color works best in the early morning hours and the solid Black works extremely well starting at sunset. I just purchased a minnow color, so for I haven’t had any takers. Gonna stick mainly with the Frog color. Overall, it’s my goto first lure out of my tackle box before I ever go to a crank bait.
In another video you say the only topwater lures you use braid on are the whopper plopper, walking baits and frogs. Here you are saying you use flourocarbon on the plopper. Confusing at best.
This past weekend had a guy at the ramp going on about how a big smallie broke off his whopper popper that morning. Went out for an evening session, and caught his fish, with his popper still in its mouth.😂
I've caught plenty of keeper bass this yr off it. It does still work. They get conditioned to all lures especially in pressured waters. The other evening I caught a 3lber next to dock at 8pm off of a 110 loon..so put urs away lol, I'll keep throwing mine.
Why would u use ridiculously expensive fluoro for a topwater? 🤨 fluoro in general is so overrated....only line I've seen that will randomly break, in no certain area of the line...doesn't have a controlled stretch..more it's used, the weaker it gets...unless it's changed out continuously, it's not worth the $$$...UNLESS, u get it free, unlimited like the pros who change it out weekly....
Not saying you are wrong by any means Andy but I just wanted to comment that I use Berkeley Vanish fluro and have never had a problem with it breaking. Not so with Stren. The first cast I made with that stuff it broke on the first cast.
Normally about once a season unless I feel nicks in the line, According to Bill Dance if line is stored out of direct sunlight it should be good for at least one season...maybe two unless nicks are felt. So far it's worked for me.
This is one the most overrated lures ever. Does it work ? Yes, But is it better than a spook or popper ?No And when you consider the price , this lure is not worth all the hype. I say this as an idiot who has about $150 worth of this lure 😂

I rarely just reel it in. I'm 90% using it like a tiny torpedo. Short quick jerks and I catch lots of fish.
Good video, thought that was on your worst list of baits from 2022 tho

Throw the 190, when it's windy!

Hi Randy - I might have missed it, but why do you have a saltwater hook on the back of that Whopper Plopper?

Sorry it was whopper ploppers, buzzzbaits, and frogs.
Too bad they don't work anymore. Used to be like a cheat code for catching 24"+ bass...now its a dead lure.
I think you’re joking?

Buzzbaits produce soooo much better, for me

I found it worked for a season or two and then its success dropped off, i even trolled with it the odd time and caught the odd fish lol.
