    I got out of my house today after watching this video last night. It was just a nearby pond. Still, I caught 3 largemouth on a Popper and had about as much fun as I've had in a long time doing anything. I'll never be a hardcore fisherman, but wanted to come back and thank you. You have a new sub and I bet I'm back out again this weekend. Cheers!

    I've had great success using the whopper plopper. When it hits the water I usually give it a quick couple of Jerks to mimic a bait fish in distress. Plus it distracts from the bait hitting the water if they're spooky. Then I finish with a steady retrieve. Thanks for the video. :)

    Hey Gene. Great video as always. The Whopper Plopper is a confidence bait of mine and there are times when it just kills it. My best colors are the Loon(black) and Bluegill pattern. I took this past Friday off and fished because the solar lunar tables were going to be very high. I caught 25 largemouth, one sunfish and one yellow perch. The bluegill pattern was the only thing I used all day and it is a pretty high pressure lake. My first time there. I fished the 90 or 110. Most of the time the key speed for me is when it leaves a perfect trail, of round bubbles behind it. On one occasion they wanted it stopped and started and I caught 9 in an hour on the Loon and had to go to work. I fish it on straight braid and no drag but I will be putting a little drag on next time. Lost one Friday that might have been bigger and with no drag may have ripped the hook out swimming away from me.
    Also I heard that tip from you and Chad before about throwing as close to the bank as possible and it is so true. My best hits are usually when I’ve thrown almost all the way on shore and start reeling off and it gets slammed. Thanks for helping me learn how to fish. I have pics if there was a way to post them.

    Got my hands on a new 75 and they beat the heck out of it but still a big fan of the 110 and 130. I use a 7'3" MH/MF tip and 20lb. mono and a 7.3:1 lews superduty reel. These are more fun and productive than a buzzbait. Keep the good videos coming Gene!

    I fish the 90 on a MH fast with no problems. Just reel into them to set the hook, and you won’t have issues with them coming off. Same with crankbaits really. Just need to be mindful of your hookset and a fast action is fine. Just wanted to put that out there for the other bank beaters that don’t want to lug around a crankbait specific rod.

  • @nickcavazos5718
    @nickcavazos5718 6 лет назад

    I love it when they are biting the plopper. They hit it harder than any other topwater bait I've thrown. And alot of times I'll hook them with one hook in top lip and the other in the bottom lip. And around pressured fish they'll hit It on a pause. I tie feathers on the back to match the bait to.

    I have a medium heavy fenwick HMG and have no problem throwing the 90 on it. I even have thrown it on a 7'3" heavy fast scheels ebisu (the white rod) that i use for frogs and flipping, with no problem. However, my favorite rod to throw it and my chattbaits on is a 6'9" medium heavy fast scheels ebisu pro that has a softer tip.

    Our small mouth here in New York smash the 130 black loon, awesome blow ups, My go to is the 130 perch for huge bass, I just started throwing the new 90 black loon has two ploppers very cool if one gets weeds in it the other front one still plops no big blow ups on it yet though, I use these to find the fish then after I find them I’ll toss a senko or jig to follow up and pick those bad boys up. Thanks for the vid, awesome.

    The 190 Whopper Plopper is being used in Europe to catch Wels Catfish, there are some videos on RUclips showing this, the takes in clear water are spectacular with some of the Cats over 50lbs, being a lure angler for fifty years I don't think it can get any more exciting than seeing a big Wels Catfish chasing a Whopper Plopper before it disappears in its mouth. Tight lines from England.

    absolutely killed it on the plopper today. The fish were running shad all up the banks, I would just watch for a swell and toss in the general area and caught one almost every time. Caught double digits all 2-3 pounders. I was throwing senko weightless all the time but would grab this when i saw them running bait fish.

    You forget to mention that some rod companies only make rods that go up to one ounce in the heavy actions the medium heavy actions are usually rated up to 3/4 oz so it depends on the brand of rod as well because you’re not going to throw a whopper plopper 110 or 130 on a G Loomis GLX medium heavy mbr or jig rod

    I fish the 90 almost every time I fish and almost every time I fish it I catch fish. I've never fished the bigger ones in any size so I can't speak on them I don't get big hogs every time I fish but I always catch fish. To me a constant speed to me is when it gets loud that's when I know to not speed it up or slow it down.

    Oh man! that looks like the perfect day for fishing, Nice and overcast, clouds covering the sky, no sun, I wish we had more of those days over here in Michigan, I absolutely refuse to go out on the boat when it's not overcast like that (Maybe that means i'm not a *true* Fisherman fanatic) Lol, better than getting baked in the sun in mid 90s temps, its been sooo brutal here with the heat and the sun. I was out on the boat few weeks ago, it was nice an over cast in the morning and the sun came out at 2PM, I decided to head to the boat ramp and go home, then my trolling motor wouldn't come up (batteries died!) and No way of getting it back up out of the water, i was in the sun for an hour or over trying to figure out what to do, So i had no other choice but to take trolling motor off the mount and lay it in the boat so i could get my boat on the trailer, Minn Kota should have a new Ulterra model where you can pull it up by hand for in case battery dies in middle of a fishing day, rather than being only Automatic deployment. Lol i Know very off topic, wanted to share an experience

    I bought a whopper plooper after seeing all the vids and the marketing hype behind them. I haven't caught a darn thing with mine, and it's not like I haven't tried. I've owned my store bought whopper plopper for going on two years now. I even bought a second plopper of a different color hoping that it was the color of the first one that the fish didn't like. I still had no luck with that second plopper either; regardless of retrieval speed or water color or temperature etc..
    I do mainly ultra-light fishing so what I did was I scaled down my whopper plopper in my CAD software and then 3D printed some ultra-light versions of this lure. By ultra-light I mean compared to the Whopper Plopper 75 (the smallest they make) my 3D printed versions are even smaller and lighter still; with the same plopping action and sound but in a higher pitch.
    First time out on the water with my home made 3D printed Micro-Ploppers I was catching fish. I try fishing with the store bought whopper plopper each time I'm out on the water and each time, I get no love from the local large mouth bass. It kind of did my heart good watching you not catch anything on your whopper plopper either. No way I'm saying they aren't darn good lures. I'm saying I've not caught a darn thing with either of my whopper ploppers; yet.

      Jersey Joel Fishing if you want to make your plopper louder....Roll the tail between your forefinger and thumb to where it's almost the shape of a U. Don't worry, it'll bounce back to it's normal shape after 3 or 4 casts, but it's a good tool to feel out if the fish want it louder that day.

    One thing I am sure glad I focused on is accuracy. I cannot tell you how many times I would get hung up on something due to inaccuracies. Now I am not afraid to throw an expensive lure near or under trees.

    FLUKE, I am going surf fishing when it gets warmer. I will be using a tica UGSA80M2S lure rating 1/2 oz to 2oz. medium power / fast action. paired with a penn fierce 4000. with 15 LB braid. I just bought a whopper plopper 130 (1.3/8 oz). my question to you is, is this a good combination. will it produce? I will be going around April/May and I will be aiming for striped bass and blue fish.

    Hey Flukemaster! I've watched a ton of your videos, which have helped me immensely since I started fishing last year. Today I tried out a topwater lure for the first time, a whopper plopper! I got about 8 bites, 6 hooksets, but landed only 2 fish. One of the fish that got away was my personal best bass, so I'm very sad about that =( I was using 12lb mono and a medium-heavy spinning rod. The fish all came off right as I was about to land them, about 1-2 feet away from the bank. They were very jumpy today which didn't help. Is there any advice you could give me to help me land them next time? I'll never forget the sight of the huge one when it jumped in the air, and my defeat when he got off literally 1 foot away from me.

    That’s funny because I’m the opposite of you with the 110, I spent many many hours throwing it non stop and I figured when you go slow but just enough that the tail has a good spin but doesn’t kick up water and no sound destroys the bigguns. I’m self employed so just think about the amount of free time I get access to... a good and a bad thing hahah

    What size mono do you recommend for a 110 whopper? Just bought my first one and wanted to watch your vid on it before I used it.

    i just bought a Gouture 8'4 ft. Rode .. paired it with a pisifin torrent baitcaster 7.1.1 . what braid would be best for casting ? anybody please ???

  • @forestcityfishing4749
    @forestcityfishing4749 2 года назад

    Actually the way to fish it is to cast it out, then let it sit for 3 secs...then give it a couple small pops, then reel it in. They strike at the point where it hits the water most of the time.

    I agree it needs to be fished at a consistent speed. His description of the speed is different from the one I like though: not necessarily where it’s loudest (for me that’s a slower retrieve than I like); I like a retrieve speed that allows the bait to leave a consistent trail of bubbles across the top.
    Also, not that he said it, he actually did it in the video, you do not need to set the hook with a plopper. I’ve been fishing it since it came out and have never had to. I’ve also never had issues with hooks or split rings (I have my PB 9 lb 4 oz on the plopper and have caught many big fish). Also, I disagree on the swivel suggestion. I like fishing straight to the line. When you have a swivel, even if the tail doesn’t get caught up, you get the bait turning over on itself a lot and there’s also not a steady anchor for the front of the bait, so the action is off. Line twist is a thing obviously but it’s not that big of an issue if you keep the tail free of grass

    Are there any advantages/disadvantages in fishing this on a bait caster? I’ve never used one and don’t have any desire to unless there’s just no way I can fish certain lures on a spinner. I’m new to fishing and notice most of you RUclips fishers use baitcasters when fishing top water lures
