Do you think the Ducati Supersport 950 should be turned into the V2 for future models?

Honestly IDK. Seemingly to me it’s handling was the bottleneck.

Think it's a great bike -- looks stunning, comfortable, sounds great, feels premium.
Only thing missing for me is cruise control. It's a case of a few buttons and some code in the ECU, so it would be great to have the option. The Aprillia RS660 and even BMW S1000RR has CC, which is hugely practical on longer highway rides, and also for keeping speed under control in speed check areas.
Also wish they'd fix the mirror vibrations. A couple of extra litres in the fuel tank would be nice, and the tail could do with a refresh. But cruise control is my big wish and hoping it'll be an option in the next version -- in which case I'll buy one right away.

Cool for now cuz the monster lost the trellis frame but eventually update it as a comfy panigale with the v2 and make it more dad panigale

This bike is always compared to the Panigale because of the looks. It’s a Monster with fairing in my view. Great bike! Thanks for the review.

  • @saddle8bag
    @saddle8bag Год назад +14

This bike has a better engine for the street than the Panigale. It delivers its power linearly. Panigale is a race bike engine. It doesn't wake up until about 7k rpm. That's fine on a track where you can keep the engine up in the revs. Not so hot for practical street riding IMO. There's a used one at a dealer about 70 miles away. I went to look at it the other day, but road construction caused so many delays I gave up and turned around. Probably a good thing as I really dig this thing. Reminds me of my old STs that I adored. I swear those are the exact same mirrors. Only thing I don't like is the singled sided swingarm because I don't want to have to buy another damn jackstand.
Your comments are on the mark and exactly why I love those things. The engine is smooth. Smooth is quick. That's what I mean by linear. If I input 5% throttle, I get 5% power. 10% 10% etc. Dicing up twisty roads, the last thing I want is a poorly fueled engine lurching about like it's on cocaine. It is also much less nimble than sportbikes. Again good. Something about those chromoly frames inspires confidence at lean that is hard to match. The faster one goes, the heavier any of them are to steer. My old ST was not great on a track. No big top end and steering was too heavy in high speed corners. At those speeds, the sportbikes probably feel terrific. At street speeds sportbikes kinda feel unstable to me. I like magic carpet bikes and Duc knows how to make them for either application.
I know Duc puts a limiter on them to keep people from revving the piss out of it sitting still. They probably have a governor on it until the break in service is done, just because they can. Look at the power line going straight up. There is no dip in the midrange if its running right.

Totaly agree. I have both the 23, 950S and the 899 Panigale. Your comments are spot on. The 950S is a dream to ride on the streets. Linear power delivery is the perfect comment as thats exactly what it does. The Panigale is not a street bike and the bikes have nothing to do with one another.

I just had my 950s delivered today. What a beautiful machine. Obviously need to spend some time with it stock but I have seen a few people mention going down -1 to 14T on the front sprocket if you’re looking to liven things up a bit. I have no experience with the V2 or any other Ducati but the stock gearing is something Im going to be thinking about during the break in period. Im coming from an R3 so the possibility of a lower top speed and shorter gearing sounds appealing to me right now. Also sounds like it reduces mirror vibration too.

  • @grahamtricker4103
    @grahamtricker4103 Год назад +11

Why would you want to change it? Ducati have enough fast bikes, Panigale V2 and V4, Streetfighter V2 & V4, Diavel V2 and V4. Some riders don't want to be hairing around all the time. They might want to own and experience a Ducati without it killing them. This bike gives its thrills at sensible speeds which is the whole point of it. If you need more then you have the Panigale V2 and V4 to choose from...

I think you're spot on Rembo. In addition, I will no longer tour on a motorcycle without cruise control. That alone is a "deal killer" for me. A center stand is also your friend when you start covering long distances. While it may be impossible to gracefully add a center stand to a sport touring bike, it's close to a "must have" for repairing/plugging a flat when out on the road. I sure use/appreciate the center stand on my BMW R 1250 RS sport touring motorcycle. Love the look of the '23 Ducati Supersport 950S, but like you, I'm waiting for the next generation. Just sold my Desmosedici RR, Paul Smart and 999R Xerox, so I have "space available" for a new Ducati. The V4 Multistrada is simply too big/tall for me, with no desire for the V2 Multistrada. I personally think my '22 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro is a much better bike. Keep up the great reviews!

Hey mate, great review on a bike I’m quite familiar with. Some extra details; the S supersport had quick shifter and solo seat cover added on top of the Ohlins suspension compared to the basic supersport however could get the quick shifter and solo seat cover as an option. I had the 2017 basic and the mirrors were terrible only way to see behind was pulling in the clutch plus heat from back cylinder was terrible in traffic however that was fixed with the ‘23 model with new cowling. The bike was actually a great commuter/tourer either bags and got me many times from home to Teterboro plus to Austin for MotoGP. It could have done with cruise control to ease the right wrist on the Austin trip but that’s what they call “an adventure!” Track wise it was similar to my GSX 750 in terms of power and handling and brake’s were adequate but great feel. Cheers

If Ducati fitted a V2 engine, it defies the purpose of competing with the middle weight segment. Second, the V2 engine in the panigale is a track tuned engine which doesn't feel at home at city streets. Much like there's the Panigale V2 and the street fighter V2, this bike is the faired version of the monster 950

  • @danny100d

I owned a ‘23 950S and put about 5,500 miles on it in 3 months then outgrew it. The bike is basically an upgraded Ninja 650. It was fun messing around on low key day trips and to casually ride around the city. It shows it’s limitations under harder braking and cornering IMO (front end shakes, doesn’t like to fall in corners) Decent stepping stone bike but if I did it again I would have purchased the Monster 937 instead for a similar price/category and better handling and put a windscreen on it.

I am considering the 950S as a replacement for my RSV4. I can understand that if you want more power, you can feel underwhelmed, but as somebody riding a 200+bhp bike, I can honestly say that to me, it's just too much for the road. I really wanted the RSV4 and still love it for the engine and capabilities but I am not track-oriented and you can really only open the throttle on straights and at that point you're putting your driver's licence on the line because you're already doing ungodly speeds. The 950S would likely be much better option for any kind of twisties on regular roads.

@@clayman1980I have a RSV4 as my track bike and ride the 950S as a daily rider. i love my RSV4 for the track and LOVE the 950S for everything else. As one other commenter mentioned above the 950S is great for perfect linear power delivery. Not more not less. It’s a great daily rider and longer rides as well. It has a moveable windshield for longer trips and the seating positon is perfect for confort with wind hitting you at over 80KM/hour that your back is not doing a lot of work. I would reckoned the 950S to anyone, shes sexy and fun to ride.

I've just bought the 950 non S. I haven't had a chance to ride it much but my initial ride on some twisty roads well impressed me. As for Panigale vs Supersport, I think it's a case of horses for courses, in particular young vs old. I'm old, ride an RC51 and now this. I love the RC but I can see that it will be the 950 for road riding.

If you want to experience this engine in the best possible setup the hypermotard 905sp is the best option. I had every single hypermotard from the 1100s back in 2007 when I was 21 years old till the latest 950sp. The lastest edition brought back the hooligan style and performance of the first one, with ghe refined electronics. Instant power, incredible stability, brakes and for the track is a weapon. If you can deal with the air for long distances that’s the best choice. It also feels like horse is one of the tallest bikes out there. I’ve ridden the Supersport for a week 2017 model, I like the looks but nothing else that much. I ended up with the superveloce MVwhich is basically an f3 but with retro looks.

Thank you for review of Supersport 950 some time ago and 950 S now!
I have Supersport 950 (not S) on order for April or June 2024 (Italian time) and, as member of DOC (Ducati Official Club) I have it for less than 14,500 Euros with 4 years warranty unlimited mileage.
What I know about this model from "real Ducati people" in Italy!
Supersport last edition will be 2024!!! Probably as is with L Twin but who knows what "German business people" think!?
Sales are not so great! Probably because most of the people can not understand that almost 1000 cc bike is ONLY 110 HP regardless the torque on L Twin!!! (Currently I have Diavel 1198 cc, 2013 and torque is the best characteristic of the bike as everyday ride and 1000 km VERY AGRESIVE EUROPEAN HIGHWAY trip!
My problem I LOVE L Twin! Hahahahhhahaah....
Please, don't forget that Ducati is long time under Audi (VW) and Germans wants $$$, of course.
Maybe it will come back with V2 but, no one knows...

Desmosedici Stradale engine please, Ohlins and forged wheels with SSSA. Plus the usual's: Heated grips, Cruise and QS. Compatible pannier with the 1260 would be useful. I have ridden the Panigale V2 and the SFV2, I currently own a Desert X, Hyper Motard SP and a 950SSS. That being said, I think the 937 engine is much better on the road vs the PV2 or the SFV2. Neither one of those bikes find power until after 8k and they are not as nimble either. One thing that never gets emphasized on reviews is the break-in process and what these bikes are like prior to the break-in. Now I also own a Pikes Peak but the break-in on the 937 is different. I hated every one of my 937 bikes during the break-in. They sound terrible, they are rough and vibey and lack power. Once you hit the 600 mile mark and get the service they open up and the bike starts its smoothing process. Once you hit about 2k in mileage they become butter smooth, more powerful and just growl.

IMO I am not sold for the stock look. Maybe few mods will look better. I still love the look of 848.

Actually, since it's a monster w/ fairings, the monster 1200s or 1200r engine would make more sense. A Supersport 1200s/1200r. This, with cruise control, would be enough to sway me from the new Hayabusa w/cruise. It's beautiful but a little too weak.

@@RemboUSMC it was fantastic. More comfortable than even the Xdiavel S. It was a good lesson that the windscreen all the way up blocked the airflow I wanted to have go through my jacket (hot day at 32C). Fantastic bike but was only a 350km ride.

Nice looking bike but would not buy it. The engine is the weak point imo. I have a Multistrada V2s (2022) with the same engine and would not buy any Ducati with that engine in it again. Low revs lacks torque and smoothness and it runs out of puff at high RPM. Multistrada V4s or any bike with the V2 engine in it like the Streetfighter/Panigala is better value imo. Your content is getting better and better Rembo.

Disagree on the engine in the multistrada. I have the last gen 950S. It's perfect for the street because you can go through the whole power band vs the V4 where you need to rev it up and to get there on the street, you're in speeding ticket territory. It's pretty brilliant in the Euro 4 version (950). You can look into getting a map or tune to even out the power band in your Euro 5 version.

All this Panigale and lower back issue is puzzling. I don't have the greatest back but I've never had an issue there with my previous Panigale 959.
Heavy on the wrists at lower speed, Yes.
    Stiff neck after awhile, Yes,
    Cramped legs after awhile, Yes.
Hot in the crotch in town, Definitely.

To be seen here in the F'ed up roads of NJ, I attach those Ultra Bright White LED Strobe lights that go on Bicycles. I attach either to my Turn Signals on my Triumph 900-GT-Pro, and on my R9T-719. They Strobe, and are so bright and "Eye-Catching" Idiot Drivers cant help but to notice you. They strap on to bars in 5 seconds, and offer conspicuity that will save Motorcyclist. It's Simply a common sense attachment to be seen.

I compared both. The 660 from Aprilia hast poor build quality if you look at the details. I was in the same situation between these 2.
      I went for the ducati.
      - More service stations near my home
      - More horsepower
      - Better reselling price
      - Better looks
      - I had a good price on mine
      - you can add some luggage for longer trips
      - the ducati is a sport/touring modell. The 660 is more a racer.
The RS660 has a more aggressive seating position. Not sure if this for everybody.

The SS is up 10hp and 20lb-ft tq over the rs660. It’s the tq and vibrations from the 937 that make it superior for me.
