The issue reviewers get wrong all the time is comparing peak HP numbers. Engines make power from tick over to redline. This 950 engine makes it about as perfectly linearly as an electric motor. The total power it makes across the rev range is considerably more than the 660. But you are right that speed and acceleration are all power to weight. The lighter the bike, the faster it will go given the same power. Keep the 660 up in its power band and it will be faster. The nice thing about the Duc is the whole damn rev range is its power band. Great review! Big miss on this is no cruise control. Ducati did it on the Multistrada 950 S, so there's no excuse. Even the BMW S1000RR has it, so too does the Aprilia RS660. Aside from that I love this bike!
It seems to be getting better and better. Some really positive reviews. It’s a shame that we will have to wait until the next iteration to lose some weight, when I assume that they will give it the new Monster frame. But if you like the trellis, it’s a classic. Nice one Chops!
@@Trancepotato No unfortunately we are in lock down here in Australia due to COVID so can't test ride them :-( the Ducati does not have cruise control which is a bumper. I currently have a Triumph Street Triple 765RS but find it to stiff for Aussie country roads. The new Aprilia Turono RR looks good but $10k more than the Kawasaki here..
@Lorin Sanchez Well, the bike is a sport TOURING bike. Every touring bike needs cruise control even if its a sportbike. This bike is meant for street uses not track uses like its panigale counterpart
Ducati certainly know how to make stunning looking bikes. Even this is pretty tasty, if unusual. Their new limited edition v4 sp is the nicest looking bike ive seen. Ever.
Doesn’t that make it heavier though? I had termi under seat exhausts on my Multistrada 1100s, that whole system was very weighty. But that’s where it went so 🤷🏻♂️
Perfect engine size and power for that bike. Many years ago I used to own 750 Supersports and it was sweet. Wonderful handling with a crisp engine plenty fast enough for our roads. I have fond memories of that Ducati. Nice review.
Great review. Not sure why he didn't get more than 120 - 130 mls per tank. I got a reliable 200 out of my 939. My 950 is just a touch better, at least while running it in. I've averaged about 60 mpg US - about 70 mpg Imperial.
If you want a sports bike for the streets, this is a lot better option than the panigales, if you care about comfort. Essentially its just a monster in the clothing of a panigale. I test rode the older 939 supersport and it was plenty capable, but i was disappointed with the electronics. This seems like a good step in the right direction! It won't be as fast as a panigale on track, let's be real here, it's still way more powerful than what you need on the road! But that's what we want isn't it😂 Once again a great review Chopsie! Keep em coming! Love from Finland
I'm 6' and 200lbs... so carry some holiday weight from 2009 and I love this bike, finally a sport bike that doesn't require a chiropractor visit after half hour of riding. Also, i like the over all power because on high end power bike, I'm constantly testing my self control. Happens on my fxdr and r18... go for it people... just toss those antlers out
Having recently rode one of these, I can 95% agree with Chopsy here ! The styling is beautiful, the suspension absolutely fantastic, the brakes absolutely awesome, but not so keen on the lump in the middle ! Torque is good 👍🏼 feel it could do with a few more horses, nothing excessive, but a few more ! It is a bit vibey, but nothing excessive, mirrors are virtually useless, if they was to make this a slightly bigger capacity v4, I’d be first inline to buy one !
The bike has similar power to the original 916 superbike. It has plenty of power for road use. I have the previous model and it's fantastic. A mate of mine has 959 and we occasionally swap rides. The Supersport is a far superior road bike. The only small minus is you miss the aggressive personality of the superbikes but you can't have the best of both worlds. The Supersport is a bloody good compromise though.
Agreed. Loved everything about the Supersport S when I tested one a couple of years ago - except for the 'go'. Just felt a bit wheezy compared to the R1200S Beemer I had at the time. The dealer said Ducati won't do a 1200 version. Been proved right so far. Shame. Reckon they're missing a trick - and a sale to me. Bought a 1250RS Beemer instead.
Nice review. I do like the Supersport S but I struggle to justify it bring so close in price to the V2. I know they're different & do different things but not radically so. If it was about a grand cheaper it would make more sense imo.
@@LambChopRides Yes true but the V2 still handles really well & I'd like to stick an exhaust on the Supersport & then you're at V2 prices. I then think what about the base Supersport but dismiss it because there's an S & just go round in circles lol. Would genuinely like to see you ride the base Supersport to see how you rate it & if the S is worth the extra.
i have the 950 base and it got the qs standard , used 2k miles 12k usd 13.5 otd longer service intervals comfy for a daily, will eventually want a street fighter v4 / panigale for once in while fun
I had the 939 S and loved it. Needs more power though. You picked up on all the points that stood out for me. Perfect suspension, best seat ever, the pops and bangs on overrun. I’d have another if it had another 40bhp.
I think I might get 1 of these for short weekend holiday tours of UK, and BaylisV2 for local fun blasts. 999s for everyday fun, Genesis5valave for AutoJumble days.
I love the grumble that the Ducati gave you! Beautiful bike and you did great job on this one Chopsy! If i wasn't dead set on the Aprilia RS660, I would be after this one.
Drove the Aprilia and the Supersport last week.. Both good bikes, but for some reason the heavier ducati seemed lighter in handling to me. Sound a little better aswell.. Quite a bit more expensive though.
@@rudolphcarr Sorry for the late reply. They seem about the same, but the Ducs power comes a little more linear. The Aprilia had kind of a little hole from where she then pushed through. I did like the low rpm power of the duc more, but it also vibrates quite a bit more to the point where mirrors are practically useless while speeding up or driving low rpm. Bought my supersport 950s yesterday. :-) The duc has more torque but it's also quite a bit heavier, the torque is measured without taking weight into account. So you should not make your decision from those numbers but actually ride both of them. Take every test drive you can do, in my experience that's easily possible.
@@whybe400 Thanks for the reply. I've ridden the RS660 and I thought it was underpowered. Neither one is for me I guess. My 690 SMC R feels much faster actually, at least up to 80 miles per hour. I guess it's all in the weight. Enjoy the Supersport, an awesome machine no doubt especially in S trim!
Interesting. I've just bought one (I'm picking it up this weekend). The exhaust pipes as part of the overall design were one of the things that sold me on it, especially with the white colour scheme. But I guess that's the beauty of biking, everyone has different likes and dislikes which is what makes visiting various biker haunts so interesting.
Great review, I had the previous model and a cracking bike it was too. Only one fault for me.... it was a nut roaster! I spent a lot of time standing on the pegs. 😁
@@LambChopRides i feel like it is not a problem at all when you’re on the move. In hot weather and traffic lights however.. but then again, name a bike that doesn’t get hot under those circumstances
@@HeyAddieImTojo I’ll get a test ride on the new one just to see if they’ve done anything with it. I know there’s definitely aftermarket heat shields available for it, the v2 and the pannigales. I suppose you’re effectively sitting over the rear cylinder I had an 1100 evo monster with a similar issue. The 1200 monster and the multis weren’t as bad.
That Pearl White is the same shade and fleck as the Yamaha White in my 87 Genesis. I own a 999s and that is about the same spec as this bike. The Ohlins and Brembos are sublime. And they are faster on average than most modern bikes because of the midrange mid corner poise and control.
Brilliant review chops [as always]. What a lovely looking bike. Why aren't more manufactures making bikes like this. Imagine a Yamaha like this with the new MT09 lump in it [it would be fab]. Or a Triumph with the Tiger 900 engine [retuned for a bit more top end]. I think manufactures are genuinely missing out. We all don't want tall adventure bikes, a naked or a modern classic. I am hoping this, the Aprilia 660 and the new Yam YZF R7 are going to change things a bit. Keep them coming mate and take care.
Great video and appreciate the honest comments! I just wanted to know from all owners how bad is the heat coming from the rear/top cylinder during warmer days and how you dealt with it. There's a SS950 from 2021 waiting at the Ducati dealer next to my house who's hunting my nights and I don't want to make the same mistake when I decided to buy the HD Sportster only because I loved the look. I understand they are totally different bikes, no comparison at all but I guess you get my point.
Hi mate. I’ve had a 950S for nearly a year now and yes you can feel the warmth from the cylinder but only really in standstill traffic and even then it’s not bad at all. I wouldn’t worry about it. Absolutely love the bike. Hope this helps.
Hi there, I've owned one since launch. And can concur that the heat is not a problem yes warm in standstill traffic but nothing painful or uncomfortable. Silk white is beautiful get it bought!
Totally agree with what you say about middleweights being more engaging, I'd take it a stage further and say that older "analogue" bikes without the aids even more so.
I recently bought the 2017 939 Supersport with 2159 km on it in excellent condition. standard model. and I think the suspension is great on it. but I have never ridden the S to compare it too. l love my bike. its such a nice machine. I don't considerate it to to vibey. but the mirrors think otherwise. and it doesn't like being at 1 or 2000 rpm. other than that the power band of the engine is so usable and the bike is full of character.
I guess I’m biased coz I own the previous model and I love its looks. Either way, they’re both miles better than anything designed by that blind South African guy who worked at Ducati in the naughties.
Owned this for nearly a year now. The thing that surprised me is that it feels much quicker than the spec sheet; granted, I'm a small chap who's not much bigger than a jockey, but I've ridden motorcycles with more power (Triumph Street Triple) that didn't really feel quicker. As an aside, the RS 660 felt a lot slower (and more cheaply-made) than the Ducati - there was this dead spot in the RPM range on the 660... I imagine that's the lower torque figures. The RS 660 wins the agility sheet, but the Ducati feels like a much more premium machine, and it is quicker and faster (even if not by miles). I've had some good track days on the 950S, and even ride it to work year-round - it reminds me of the old Ducati 916, but with far better tech - the 916 was a top-tier performer of its day, and is still quick by any standard that isn't a race-replica or super-naked, which is why I bought a 950S Supersport instead of a V2 Panigale - I loved test-riding the V2 (several times), and it's fast as hell, but just doesn't have a power-band I'd consider usable for street use on the regular. In my view, people buying the 950S are those who want an 'oldschool' sports bike that could work the track as well as the street without making you hate your time on either, even if you weren't as good as a 'dedicated' machine for either purpose. Indeed, that definitely means compromise, since the 950S isn't as comfortable as a naked or sports-tourer nor as quick as a 'true' supersport, but the fact that it's good at both jobs makes it pretty unique these days as I see it, and I welcome disagreement on that (you won't offend me!). Cheers.
@@axist2389 Twice, yes. Really like it - with the adjustable Ohlins, you can really dial it in proper-like for track work, and the engine has brilliant boot out of corners. There's some videos of riders far better than me taking the 950S around Autodromo Vallelunga here on RUclips - you can see that it really goes very well for its power.
Surprising grunt this engine in 821 and 937 hypermotard formats when worked hard - Strong to 200kph and stretch to 220 sort of thing - Hopefully euro5 hasn't neutered that - And a pity only 16l tank as 200km range a bit light for touring unless constantly planning or filling up everywhere - But Ducati has created some very nice lightweight zip style panniers for touring on the Supersport anyway - Based on old Hyperstrada bags by the looks and they were superb - weighed nothing, quick to mount and good volume
I have a ss939 S with the full Akro pipes 175 mile tank range , comfortable; certainly quick enough for the road . Great handling also , fantastic bike toured Wales on her .
Great video as always! Regarding the SuperSport 950 S vs. the RS660 acceleration... On paper, it would look like the RS660 would be faster, but the best numbers during a road test for these bikes are as follows... ** The (Ducati SuperSport 950 S)... 0-60 mph = 3.26 - 1/4 Mile = 10.99 @ 128 mph - Top Speed = 152.9 mph. ** The (Aprilia RS660)... 0-60 mph = 3.29 - 1/4 Mile = 11.23 @ 124 mph - Top Speed = 147 mph. I know these are just magazine tests, but they still use professional equipment, so it gives us a basic idea of how quick these bikes are. I'm guessing the SuperSport 950 S probably has better gearing & it's probably also underrated in it's power figures? Just guessing? Anyway, I love your camera angles, and I absolutely think your MC videos are incredible! Safe travels! -Chris
The SuperSport 950 starts at $13,495😛 , with the S version coming in at $15,795😑 for Ducati Red, and $16,195!!🙄 for Arctic White Silk. The S model comes upgraded with a 48mm Öhlins fork and Öhlins shock, while the base model utilizes a 43mm Marzocchi fork and Sachs shock.
Great review! What a let down those mirrors. I'm considering this for me i next bike but these mirrors... Should they be show stoppers? Considering you've got Ninja 1000SX which is far better but for the looks department. Ducati beats it silly there.... I'm confused 🤔
I’m really spilt on the looks it’s got some cheap feeling to it. Feels like mashed together from the spare parts and try to make it look good. Talking about Ducati and parts - how is the hypermotard?
I know it's a strange comparison but how do you think it compares to the KTM 890 Duke? I think both of these bikes look amazing and they both look comfortable for road use (I dont want a proper super sport that folds you in half). So which one would you take and why?
A Dad's Panigale for Dad track days. Had to watch this video again Chopsie. I'm 5'8. Junk those pipes for some Temagonies(sic). That Ducati made for me. I do hope it comes in Red?
I’ve got an mt09 currently and really like the look of this , but is it worth changing ? Similar power, better wind protection and a bit more sportier riding position without full sports bike cramp. I shall have to take one for a test ride

I find they turn (like a lot of ducatis) quite slowly. Long wheelbase etc. It could be more nimble....that said, on long fast sweeping bends it's (obviously) stable. Usual Ducati limited tank range and you have to remove end cans to take the wheel out easily. It is by no means perfect. Try a second hand 848.....and spend the money you save on cider!
Nice thorough review. I moved to the UK from the US last year and picked up a clean used '18 standard SS 939, same weight, power, frame, tires, etc etc as the 950. Wanted something that felt new-to-me different than the trusty '12 speed triple I had for years and really liked. The SS hits the spot. Yes, the SS is as you say a wonderful bike for the road: comfortably sporty with a punchy engine with power just were it should be and great handling with a nice balance between stability and quickness. I'd rather gave ohlins but the standard's marzochi fork / sacks shock feels darn nice to me. The 950 seems to have lost a bit of mpg.
I love the looks of the bike, and I am shopping for a new ducati upgrade from my ST3s abs. I am 6' 2" and fear that I might be a little long for this bike. I also do not like the fact that the fuel tank is small, no cruise control, and mirrors that are useless due to vibration. The latter is very important and reviewers just sluff it off like its no big deal. That would be the deal breaker for me.
Not mind blowing though is it? Say compared to a 21 year old Honda CBR600 F4, Honda had 110bhp and 15kg lighter dry and had a comfy seat. Yes you lose a fair chunk of torque 19ft-lb but 21 years and an extra 350cc, plus some Seiko looking electronics, it doesn't amaze!

Ducati did it on the Multistrada 950 S, so there's no excuse. Even the BMW S1000RR has it, so too does the Aprilia RS660.
Aside from that I love this bike!
Buy a throttle locker.
@@mwtraining4310hard to suggest a shittier solution.
It seems to be getting better and better. Some really positive reviews. It’s a shame that we will have to wait until the next iteration to lose some weight, when I assume that they will give it the new Monster frame. But if you like the trellis, it’s a classic. Nice one Chops!
Great review chops, its in my final 2 along with the Ninja 1000SX, be interested to see you review the SX.. keep up the good work..
Did you make a decision on which bike to buy? The ninja and the supersport are the two bikes I'm looking at as well.
If they put Cruise Control on it it would be perfect.....
@Lorin Sanchez Well, the bike is a sport TOURING bike. Every touring bike needs cruise control even if its a sportbike. This bike is meant for street uses not track uses like its panigale counterpart
Yeah, they should of put it on my Monster + 937 too.
@@irfanshafri9574 This is not, and never has been, a sports tourer.

@@SarinEA Exactly. It's a badge.
Ducati certainly know how to make stunning looking bikes. Even this is pretty tasty, if unusual. Their new limited edition v4 sp is the nicest looking bike ive seen. Ever.
This bike looks so much nicer with double underseat exhaust
Doesn’t that make it heavier though? I had termi under seat exhausts on my Multistrada 1100s, that whole system was very weighty. But that’s where it went so 🤷🏻♂️
Perfect engine size and power for that bike. Many years ago I used to own 750 Supersports and it was sweet. Wonderful handling with a crisp engine plenty fast enough for our roads. I have fond memories of that Ducati. Nice review.
Ducati gave me this bike for a test ride. I felt so fkn comfortable and safe on the 950s. This ducati going to be my next bike for 2025 for sure.
Great review. Not sure why he didn't get more than 120 - 130 mls per tank. I got a reliable 200 out of my 939. My 950 is just a touch better, at least while running it in. I've averaged about 60 mpg US - about 70 mpg Imperial.
Seems like all the bikes I like , you are reviewing them …. Nicely done, big fan 😁
But that's what we want isn't it😂
Once again a great review Chopsie! Keep em coming! Love from Finland
Thanks matey and your assessment is spot on too 👍
I'm 6' and 200lbs... so carry some holiday weight from 2009 and I love this bike, finally a sport bike that doesn't require a chiropractor visit after half hour of riding. Also, i like the over all power because on high end power bike, I'm constantly testing my self control. Happens on my fxdr and r18... go for it people... just toss those antlers out
Always look forward to an LCR review and doesn’t disappoint. Used up all the stroke under braking very quickly, be good to hear more about that
Those exhausts look gorgeous and i dont like Ducati’s, great review chops
Nice looking bike, lacks cruise control and tank range though
Having recently rode one of these, I can 95% agree with Chopsy here !
The styling is beautiful, the suspension absolutely fantastic, the brakes absolutely awesome, but not so keen on the lump in the middle ! Torque is good 👍🏼 feel it could do with a few more horses, nothing excessive, but a few more ! It is a bit vibey, but nothing excessive, mirrors are virtually useless, if they was to make this a slightly bigger capacity v4, I’d be first inline to buy one !
They need the monster 1200s in it. That would be perfect for me.
Why do you need that power?
@@HeyAddieImTojo need ?
@@stuartb1963 he said need. I asked why need
950's are middle weight bikes now! Definitely agree though as it is a little heavy and low on power for a 937cc bike, lovely looking bike though.
yes agree
Nice review. I do like the Supersport S but I struggle to justify it bring so close in price to the V2. I know they're different & do different things but not radically so. If it was about a grand cheaper it would make more sense imo.
Yes agreed, it's the ohlins which drive the price up. Remember V2 doesn't have it 👍
@@LambChopRides Yes true but the V2 still handles really well & I'd like to stick an exhaust on the Supersport & then you're at V2 prices. I then think what about the base Supersport but dismiss it because there's an S & just go round in circles lol. Would genuinely like to see you ride the base Supersport to see how you rate it & if the S is worth the extra.
@@ragerider6283, I would give the base SS950 a chance.
i have the 950 base and it got the qs standard , used 2k miles 12k usd 13.5 otd longer service intervals comfy for a daily, will eventually want a street fighter v4 / panigale for once in while fun
I had the 939 S and loved it. Needs more power though. You picked up on all the points that stood out for me. Perfect suspension, best seat ever, the pops and bangs on overrun. I’d have another if it had another 40bhp.
Agreed
@@whybe400 did the Ducati seem a lot faster? I’m confused Chops says they’re about the same. The Supersort claimed torque is 69 lb ft !
The duc has more torque but it's also quite a bit heavier, the torque is measured without taking weight into account.
I think it's a nice looking bike even with the standard double barrel shotgun pipes.. 👍🙂
There’s a t-shirt Chopsy!
We love a little POP, BANG & CRACKLE! 😎👍
Yes like it 👍😁
Interesting.

Oh interesting Des I didn't notice that but weather was pretty cold when I borrowed it..
I suppose you’re effectively sitting over the rear cylinder
I had an 1100 evo monster with a similar issue. The 1200 monster and the multis weren’t as bad.
She's a stunner,
Maybe the best looking road bike currently.
Cant get past the price and weight though.
210 kg is 30 kg too heavy.
perfect analysis, conclusion
Great road engine, even better in the Multistrada version👍, love sports tourers but my back doesn’t anymore😢.
Totally agree with what you say about middleweights being more engaging, I'd take it a stage further and say that older "analogue" bikes without the aids even more so.
All the press rave about middleweights
But it's the tuono 1100's and superdukes etc , that get the highest reviews.....

Beautiful bike for sure, much better aesthetically than the last model, great review as always🇦🇺AU
Much better looking than the old model for sure i agree 👍
Cheers.
Have you taken it to the track ?

The 950 multistrada is a better all-round road bike and the same power. It would be good to compare this to the multistrada.
Chopsy.... are you going to do a comparison video of the Aprilia RS660 and the Ducati Supersport S?
Beautiful Machine! Does it get hot like most Ducati’s? Thanks Chopsy!
Yes, they get hot and cook your ass when going slow. No issue over 30mph though.
Imagine this bike with the Multistrada V4 engine in it!👍
Not mind blowing though is it? Say compared to a 21 year old Honda CBR600 F4, Honda had 110bhp and 15kg lighter dry and had a comfy seat. Yes you lose a fair chunk of torque 19ft-lb but 21 years and an extra 350cc, plus some Seiko looking electronics, it doesn't amaze!
I’m curious, would you buy the Supersport 950 or the Tuono/RS 660?
a sporty bike with built in viby massage function .... nice :)
So basically Ducatis version of the Ninja 1000!
Ask TMF if it's any better to ride than the 6th gen VFR800 he took out. That would be interesting as the 5th gen VFR is even better imo.
