Also, i like the over all power because on high end power bike, I'm constantly testing my self control. So go for it people... just toss those antlers out, and get a cool gel seat cover
Great review, thanks. I used ti have the 939 version - loved it. Then had Multistradas, and an S1000RR. Been without a bike for almost a year…I’m picking up a 950S on Tuesday. It’s the bike I missed the most by far. Can’t wait.
My dealer leant me one whist my Multistrada 950 was in for a service. What a bike! I had a 916 years ago and this handles as well and sounded fantastic on the standard pipes. I love the crackle on over run too. The comfort surprised me. I am very tempted
If it looks fantastic & rides fantastic, then it probably is.... fantastic! I'm in the same old & large boys' club as you, Tony, so it's good to know this is a viable ride. My last Duke was a 907ie & that was a belter - and loud (Termis) too!
Hey, I once owned a 907 i.e. as well! My SuperSport was purchased after an MV Agusta F3, which was fun but uncomfortable to ride unless on curvy, smooth roads.
The only sports bike I'd seriously consider. Real world usable power, comfort and looks to die for. Great review Tony, only problem is there's no way I can afford one short of a lotto win...... one day perhaps?
Really enjoyed this review. Love the bike. I saw one at the Ducati museum 2 weeks ago when I was on a factory tour and museum visit. They had one in the museum entrance area that you could throw a leg over. A really lovely bike.
Another great review thanks, I was tossing up between the 950s and the 1000sx and went with the 1000sx after riding them back to back. Although I am now thinking of getting a Cafe Racer as well for the soulful ride they provide, Maybe I would not be thinking this way if I had got the 950s
I Absolutely love my my 21 950 S. Only two very minor complaints....the mirriors vibrate terribly on not so smooth roads and if you get stuck in stop and go traffic on a hot summer day your legs get pretty toasty. But very user friendly sports bike and ergonomics are good for a middle aged overweight guy like me that is still 16 at heart!
I rent this bike in Italy and I agree with you, the two minor complaints for me is the mirrors vibration and the heat for you legs when you get stuck in traffic on a hot summer day. Beside that, it is perfect!
Great description of the bike. Im a newer rider and upgraded to the 2017 S model this year after a year riding the 650 ninja. It has that perfect balance of sports and touring elements. As a newer rider the engine is smooth and punchy down low, compared to the 650 ninja I did find I had to change gear a lot more at lower speeds but the quick shift is a dream for that and the over run from the exhaust just brings a smile with its little pops and bangs. Riding position is not as upright as the ninja but isn't back breaking as a race ready bike and when i brought mine i also had a 2 hour ride back from picking it up all be on motorway, but had no pain being in that position for the amount of time. The seat gets a bit hot around town and in warm conditions but its a ducati thing. Over all, i think its a great upgrade and hope for many fun filled miles on it.
Great vid, thank you. Putting a deposit on one of these next week! Thought i wanted the Panigale but can't take the wrist pain anymore. This will be like a more refined vfr/interceptor i think,
It a couple of years later, but I really like the on-the-road review of the bike. I have a Hypermotard 950 SP, but naked bikes at sustained high speed are challenge that gets old quickly. Two hours ago I was at my local Ducati deanship sitting on one to get a sense of the riser and seat that seems to be the talk of most reviewers. Frankly, they aren't so high that I felt like a begging puppy. The wheels seem to be cast and not forged, so that is a ding against it, but I just happen to have an unused set of Marchisini wheels, so I would switch them out. thanks for the review.
I have been watching vids on this bike for 2 years this is the last before I order one tomorrow morning from Melbourne VIC Australia and ride back to Perth WA can't wait but it will be wet. It will be a good bike after riding the Ducati ST3s for 10 + years. Good review Tony
Just found your channel currently running a supersport s 2018 model you have described it exactly as I find it to ride a lovely machine to own and ride as a shorter rider it suits me better than a sports bike I have put miles on this bike including sone touring thanks for the video now subscribed

@@mancavemoto In the earlier nineties I stopped off at a local dealer to have a closer look at a 916. A salesman saw me looking, thought he may have a sale. He invited me 'to throw a leg' over...thats when I knew my time has a cafe racer, 1960 Rocker was over, time had taking its toll. I now own a Triumph Street Triple 675..probably at the end of my motorcycling journey. Fifty nine years ....so far!.. Its all been great.

There was the temptation to let the torque of the engine do the work low down...this was a mistake as it had a reputation of 'doing the main bearing in' Your right, all race type/style Ducatis are stunningly beautiful
What an eye opening review, Sir...I'm about to get the bike of my dreams soon, since my last bike, over 30yrs ago, was a 1986 FZ600 Yamaha that was destroyed by an inattentive motorist and now, here I am at 55yrs old, it appears that THIS motorbike will more than suffice...Especially when you pointed out the discomfiting issues with more "powerful" bikes that invariably come with a "cost" to an older mans ergonomical concerns...I don't need any NEW aches and pains just to look kool. That's a young man's game. Now I can look kool and be comfortable as well. Thanks again for the AWESOME review and Cheers and much success to your channel.
I don't see this as a sports tourer - the fact that you can still get paniers for it may suggest it, but Ducati doesn't use the term anywhere for it - they seem to be marketing it as a 'street' alternative to the Panigale series, so basically it's more of an oldschool sports bike. Most sports tourers are larger, heavier, with even higher bars and lower seats.
Nice review. I’m very tempted to trade in my zzr for one of these before I get into trouble! I think we must live near each other. I used to park my vehicle exactly where you started this review!
I have a streetfighter 848 and just that is smooth as silk, so the supersport, is one of the next three on my list as it must be even smoother. But my MV 1090 Brutale is also a miraculous thing, but not as super comfortable as the streetfighter. The supersport is similar with a fairing but the riding experience is similar enough, to say that both the streetfighter and the supersport are among the most surprising bikes one could ride, and highly recomendable daily rides.
LOL, I’m 63. I took one out for a ride at my nearby Dealer, I really Enjoyed it. Been looking at them Seriously last Few months. I ride Big touring Bikes, this 950s is Lots of Fun even for a “Old guy”lol
Especially for most weekend riders or tourers that don’t have track or racing experience. Most people would kill themselves with 150hp and it makes no sense to be in 1st until 90kph on the street. Big numbers are just a pointless dick measuring contest for the most part. My scrambler 1200 has 90hp and it feels like more than enough.
Thank you for the great review. I’m a 50 year old who wants to get a motorcycle and need your opinion. I went to a Ducati dealer and absolutely fell in love with the Supersport 950S, but the Monster is also very appealing to me, not only because it’s cheaper. Most of my riding would take place in the city. Which one would you suggest for a beginner? Or would you suggest these at all?
Im also 50 and ride my 950s through traffic often and find it a breeze. I"m also able to stay in saddle for long periods on the odd all-day ride as well. As a returning rider after an extended period away from motorcycling I didnt think I wanted to go back to sport bikes but the 950 is relaxed if you want it to be, yet flippen quick if your feeling 18 again :)
Sometimes referred to as a gentleman's sport bike. Spot on review. I think around 100hp is the sweet spot for normal roads. Love my 2018 but the "pop pop pop" got a little annoying after a while. I downshift before it hits.
I can't get over that the old 916 / 996 were consider a big bike with 120 / 130+ps. Now a 950 is considered a mid range bike and only puts out 110ps. Keenly priced thou. Great vid thanks. 🤔
Wow! I’m really taken with this review Tony. I’d never really been interested in Ducati as I’m a modern retro fan. However I think I’d enjoy riding this and possibly not feel intimidated by it. Love it in that white colourway.
Nice review and thanks. I am 6' 2" tall; do you think this bike might be a tad small for someone my length? I currently ride a ducati ST3s abs and I love it. I just wish it could corner a bit better and I think this supersport would. I do ride to weekend events so I need some sort of touring capability.
Thanks for a great review. I'm tempted but still on the fence. Just how bad is the vibration? I don't mind blurred mirrors but bad buzzing detracts seriously from ride quality.
Looks great. Similarity to turn of the millennium VFR 800 5th generation is spooky. Both premium bikes on the sporty side of sports tourer, both 110hp, both 210kg wet weight, both relaxed ride ergonomics, both single sided swing arm.....
Biggest “downside” of the VFR is it’s hefty curb weight compared to this. Downside is really only for those looking at doing some track riding in the weekends, the extra heft will make it worse. For a daily, not that big a deal in all reality.
Thanks for the review. I love my Kawasaki Z1000SX as a sports tourer and this Ducati seems like quite a good and more exotic alternative. I must try and get a test ride on one.
Have you had a go one it yet? I also own a z1000sx and been thinking long and hard about swapping it for a supersport, even though there is nothing wrong with the Kawasaki..
Thanks Mark, and theres not that many to be fair, the Kawasaki 1000 SX is one for sure, and the new Suzuki GSXS1000GT is in the mix, but then the market seems to be either more expensive, or going down the more upright Adventure Tourer shape.
💣💥💣💥💥💣I just went to our local Ducati dealer in Milwaukee Wisconsin I was actually going to show up and buy a hypermotard 950 SP test drove it came back as I was standing in the dealership I saw this super sport sitting there so I sat on it that was it I felt like I fit this bike perfectly I'm 5'9 192 lb bodybuilder had no idea how great this bike was going to be took it for a test drive had more fun more then I could imagine usable power it's everywhere you want it at every given moment that 80% horsepower is amazing because it's on tap anytime you want it I was literally laughing out loud 🤣very comfortable super well suspended in every condition I was so impressed I bought it that day !!! Like I don't even know what happened since then I love this bike I can't even imagine my life without it great video
@@mancavemoto great, there's no rush for me, wouldn't consider it properly until next summer anyway I don't think. I shall look forward to your review 😊
I think I’ll get one, Aussie dollar sucks at the moment but oh well. The Supersport models have never been about peak power. They are about easily accessible power, with good low down and midrange grunt. And top it off with gorgeous looks, whats not to like? This will make a great day to day bike!
Looks like a great bike! Currently have a RS660, but I've been thinking about a slight upgrade eventually. Would you say this would be a good step -up or should I just go for the V2? I do mostly spirited rides on back road twisties and canyons with the occasional highway to and from places.
@@mancavemoto that's kinda what I'm thinking. One of the things I like most about the 660 is the sporty, yet comfortable riding position. I'm just concerned the power difference between the 660 and Supersport isn't big enough to justify the switch, that's why I'm also thinking the Panigale.
Great video being thinking of one of these for a while but one main question that you might not be able to answer what's it like for the old girl to get on the back? 🤞🏻😆👍🏻
Thx for nice review and great feedbacks. Is 950s need throttle settings for more stable riding? Friend said, with 950s it is hard to ride as steady at same speed ?
Thank you for uploading this, this is so simple clear. last month i bought 950S. Got a question, even though i apply rear brake it doesn't work much. I tried very hard by pushing it, it did try to stop the bike but not completely, is this something common ? Am worried its a brand new, not even a month rear brake not working
Rear brakes are not designed to stop the bike n a hurry, they are used for scrubbing off speed and balancing the braking. This is pretty common with all bikes
I know I sound like an even older sod than I am... but I really wish Ducati had added the option of hard lugage and a cruise control to this bike (and a slightly bigger tank). Don't get me wrong, I'd LOVE to own one, but doing a fair bit of touring and not having the budget for two bikes sadly makes it less of an option than it could have been. Honestly, a modern ST3 is really the kind of bike I'd want... and noone seems to be making these days.
I'm looking for a really beautiful 1000cc. I just don't want too much power (I'm coming from a 600cc) and I want to be more comfortable on the interstate. This seems like a really solid choice.
When you're young you ride 'em. When you're older you have them in the living room, you crack a can open, find a comfy seat and just look at this thing of Beauty
I can't get my 2022 Super Sport out of urban ride mode no matter how hard I try even using the owner's manual. You think you can do a quick couple of minute tutorial on how to change the ride modes on the super sport? I have not yet found a single RUclips creator with this bike who is done such a crucial and important video as the ride mode selection
Great review as always, I run tye same engine in my multistrada and puts a smile on my face. Ducati definitely upped their game. I note the Wolf jacket still going strong.😊
Great bike, rode a 2020 S, but chose the Multi 950s for its better touring capabilities. IMO, this bike would be more suited with the V2 power plant - for that aging demographic that is moving away from super sports.
It's a looker, but where I feel Ducati falls down is with ownership (at least here in Oz). Servicing costs are litterally three times more than my BMW over the warranty period and supply of parts and even stock is insanely slow.
With the longer wheelbase, how does it handle in sharper turns you encounter on the street? Bikes I've ridden have less than 1400mm wheelbase and this one looks like its 1478. Anyone share their thoughts? I'm an average rider not pushing the envelope on the street just FYI.
@@mancavemoto Thanks. I guess that would make sense in filtering situations. I ride a BMW R1250RS but a friend has a Supersport (previous gen, before the TFT) and loves it for all the reasons you state here.
Great review, how would you compare it to the Aprilia RS 660, hoping you had the chance to test the Aprilia. I'd say the Aprilia makes up for power in the weight department as it comes at 183 kgs, while the Ducati 950 is 230 kgs.
There’s a 15kg dry weight difference. That’s probably better(thicker) bodywork and a bigger tank amongst other things. I looked at the RS 660 and I’d say the quality of the plastics are better in the Ducati. RS660 felt flimsy.. IMO
The Aprilia is very, very sligthly more leaned over, the Supersport has some touring options like the paniers, the Aprilia engine is more peaky while the Ducati is more torquey
This bike just looks absolutely gorgeous, looks like a super sport one can actually live with.
I'm 6' and 200lbs... still carry some holiday weight from 2009 and I love this bike, finally a sport bike that doesn't require a chiropractor visit after half hour of riding. Yep, the VFR is another lovely machine. My friend has a vfr750, ‘89 I think? That he’s had from new. Still a lovely silky ride
No worries, yes give it a go
Position on the Ducati is quite more leaned over, is also a little bit narrower (better for lane spliting through cars)
Have you had a go one it yet? I also own a z1000sx and been thinking long and hard about swapping it for a supersport, even though there is nothing wrong with the Kawasaki..
@@whistler2670 no, not yet. I have a vague plan to visit Hyside Ducati in Chelmsford at some stage.
Loved your review and wow, what a great bike. What do you think those cheaper alternatives are now that the VFR is no more?
Thanks Mark, and theres not that many to be fair, the Kawasaki 1000 SX is one for sure, and the new Suzuki GSXS1000GT is in the mix, but then the market seems to be either more expensive, or going down the more upright Adventure Tourer shape.
My dream bike.
Its a beauty for sure
i have test a loT bike, this the closest to my ninja 400 character. Really fell in love
Had a 2017, pretty good bike. Went with a Tuono 660 now.
Thats awesome how long you been riding never trying one like that love that white
How long have i been riding in total, or how long have I been riding this bike?
Lovely review ❤️
Thank you 🤗
💣💥💣💥💥💣I just went to our local Ducati dealer in Milwaukee Wisconsin I was actually going to show up and buy a hypermotard 950 SP test drove it came back as I was standing in the dealership I saw this super sport sitting there so I sat on it that was it I felt like I fit this bike perfectly I'm 5'9 192 lb bodybuilder had no idea how great this bike was going to be took it for a test drive had more fun more then I could imagine usable power it's everywhere you want it at every given moment that 80% horsepower is amazing because it's on tap anytime you want it I was literally laughing out loud 🤣very comfortable super well suspended in every condition I was so impressed I bought it that day !!! Like I don't even know what happened since then I love this bike I can't even imagine my life without it great video
Cheers, enjoy your new bike!
I've owned one of these in white for 3 years and haven't found paint chips an issue.
Thanks for the info, good to know
Looks like a 2014 VFR, I'd like to see a comparison video.. see if the extra money is worth it! This is an old video, but someone plz do a comparison
Spot on
Would be very interested to see your opinion of this compared to the Aprilia RS 660 - two bikes I am toying between for my next bike!
Hi Jess, I should be able to get an RS660, but maybe not until the new year
@@mancavemoto great, there's no rush for me, wouldn't consider it properly until next summer anyway I don't think. I shall look forward to your review 😊
Great review.. looks awesome, sounds great to :)
Cheers, yes it does
I think I’ll get one, Aussie dollar sucks at the moment but oh well. The Supersport models have never been about peak power. They are about easily accessible power, with good low down and midrange grunt. And top it off with gorgeous looks, whats not to like? This will make a great day to day bike!
I agree
Looks like a great bike! Currently have a RS660, but I've been thinking about a slight upgrade eventually. Would you say this would be a good step -up or should I just go for the V2? I do mostly spirited rides on back road twisties and canyons with the occasional highway to and from places.
I think it’s a good bike to move too for sure, it has a more relaxed riding position than the pano game v2
Cheers, sorry yep no idea
how would this compare to a BMW R1250 RS I wonder?
I’m getting mine next week!
Enjoy!
Thx for nice review and great feedbacks. Is 950s need throttle settings for more stable riding? Friend said, with 950s it is hard to ride as steady at same speed ?
Thanks, and no not at all.
At low speeds maybe a little because the engine has quite a bit of torque, but at highway speeds is quite easy
@@marcos1669 thx for your reply and attention :)
@@mancavemoto such a relief :) thank you. Am now a subscriber of your channel.
Nice one Tony, thank you.
Cheers Andi
Test riding the Multistrada version soon, just wish it had the new updated dash…a lot more fun and a lot lighter than my present 1250 GSA😆
me too, hopefully a Multistrada V2 review will be coming soon
Super review
Thanks
Nice bike frankly, relaxing sports tourer
It sure is!
I’d love to get one of these to take out touring with my partner on his multi, but no cruise so no dice unfortunately
I'm looking for a really beautiful 1000cc. I just don't want too much power (I'm coming from a 600cc) and I want to be more comfortable on the interstate. This seems like a really solid choice.
I would agree
I got a 939 which is identical to the 950. It's a very easy bike to ride fast and slow.
Nice and beautiful!
Had you ever tried the 1099-1199 (most beautiful, as for me; even better than 916-996-998)?
Cheers, I haven’t no
When you're young you ride 'em.
Unfortunately I only had this bike for a couple of weeks, so I can help you. I seem to remember it being a pretty simple process though?
Should I sell my 2017 VFR800 for one of these? Or should I upgrade my VFR suspension with a Nitron kit? When is Ducati going to offer cruise control?
Great review as always, I run tye same engine in my multistrada and puts a smile on my face. Ducati definitely upped their game.
I note the Wolf jacket still going strong.😊
Thanks Rich, its a lovely motor. Yep still going strong and its been my go to textile suit. Warm, dry and comfortable
How about a comparison between this bike and the Moto Guzzi Mandelo100S?
Great bike, rode a 2020 S, but chose the Multi 950s for its better touring capabilities. IMO, this bike would be more suited with the V2 power plant - for that aging demographic that is moving away from super sports.
Totally agree, I'm hoping to get on the new V2s MultiStrada next
IMHO the engine that this bike has is more than enough for doing anything.
Hi, the handlebars are relatively high, but how upright is the riding position itself?
Thanks.
Relatively, but you are still 'canted' forward in a semi aggressive position.
It's a looker, but where I feel Ducati falls down is with ownership (at least here in Oz).
Servicing costs are litterally three times more than my BMW over the warranty period and supply of parts and even stock is insanely slow.
Thats a shame to hear
i love the Testeretta engine. Its butter, and in my opinion better for the street than the V2
What a beauty..
It sure is
Lovely bike. What's not to like?
Right?
With the longer wheelbase, how does it handle in sharper turns you encounter on the street? Bikes I've ridden have less than 1400mm wheelbase and this one looks like its 1478. Anyone share their thoughts? I'm an average rider not pushing the envelope on the street just FYI.
Am I being unkind if I say it’s a previous Monster model with a fairing? Doesn’t make it a bad thing. 🤷🏻♂️
I owned a Monster 1200 and can tell you the fairing makes all the difference; the SuperSport is a better ROAD bike.
What is the bar coming forward out of the right side bar end weight? It looks like it could be a frame for a hand guard, but not quite.
It’s a brake lever guard, not a standard part it’s something Ducati fitted as an accessory.
@@mancavemoto Thanks. I guess that would make sense in filtering situations. I ride a BMW R1250RS but a friend has a Supersport (previous gen, before the TFT) and loves it for all the reasons you state here.
i am getting one soon
Enjoy
Great review, how would you compare it to the Aprilia RS 660, hoping you had the chance to test the Aprilia. I'd say the Aprilia makes up for power in the weight department as it comes at 183 kgs, while the Ducati 950 is 230 kgs.
Thanks, not yet but i'm working on it.
The ducati is more like 210 kg, not 230.
To put it into perspective a Ducatie with 1/4 th a tank and a 10 kilo lighter rider weighs just as much as an Aprillia ;)
Ducati e Guzzi sono le moto più belle del mondo
does ducati make a bike that is more for beginners or is everything more of a second bike
This is very easy to ride, the monster is a great easy riding bike too and of course there are the Scramblers
Very nice
yep
Love my S
I can see why
good review of my next bike! too bad your roads are so boring!
Thanks, and boring? i beg to differ....
@@mancavemoto compared to Tuscany where I rode last May, or the Appalachian mountains where I ride often! 😜
