You say the "mirrors are a blurry mess". I have a SS and I've found that Ducati had actually mitigated this issue by including a BMNL ("blurry mess neutraliser lever") on my bike. It's located on the left side handlebar: simply closing the throttle and engaging the BMNL results in activating mirror function while we're at it, the SFCA ("sketchy fingertip Control Algorithm") is a useful method for navigating very tight, low speed maneuvers without trapping your fingers between the bar a tank.

It's fine but something a little more refined might be nice. Would this be quicker than the CBR? Do you think that would be a good move or is it too similar?
This bike has a LOT more torque and it’s spread all over the rpm range. You find it much easier to go fast without pushing hard at all. The electronic nannies do a great job of protecting you from yourself. I say go for it if you want one. Hope you love it as much is I love mine.

It depends on until how much HP you have tried, the most powerful bike I have tested is the Duke 1290 and for me it was too powerful, 140-150 is the upper limit for me, but 100hp seems like the sweet spot for me
Thanks for the content Dan, always informative. I will be spending some time in the south of Spain (Malaga) and wondered what your thoughts are on the super sports suitability to those rolling mountain roads?
Just to let you know that the updated version of the BMW R1250 RS SE bike has arrived the starting price is 15 thousand 500 pounds the fuel tank is now 18L which is good and the power from the engine is exactly the same but torque from the engine is up a bit so you might be interested to see what the difference is between also the R1250 R has been updated as well again the same engine but a lot more torque from the engine and more power from the engine and the price is 14 thousand 750 not sure what the options are for the bike
You could make your reviews more accessible to viewers outside US+UK by "translating" things like miles to the gallon to the metric system, even if you just flash it as text on the screen. Right now 94.7% of the world population has no idea if the figures you give are good or bad :)
Only 3 countries in the world don't use the metric system. Not sure why we still use the Imperial for the road but I can't see it would ever change. You can always look up the values yourself too! :)
Nice review Dan. Nice looking bike. I do like Ducati’s but they are pricey and I am more of a naked bike guy rather than a sorts bike but that looks lovely. I think I would choose the CBR650R over that ha ha
The Ducati is quite more premium, it cetainly feels it, not that the CBR is bad, but is like comparing a Civic vs an Alfa Guilia, is the quality of the Civic good? yes, is the Alfa better finished? of course it is
Thanks for the review. Might want to consider using a chest-mounted setup? The constant head movements make the video quite difficult to watch without feeling dizzy.. other than that, all good!
The helmet cam is chosen due to the viewer seeing what the rider sees, as much as possible anyway. Sadly, some people just can't watch these sorts of videos due to motion sickness. Thanks for trying to watch. 👍

Hey Dan. Great review thanks. Just a quick question, hope it’s ok? What is the brand and model of the jacket you’re wearing in this vid? Much appreciated. Chris.
I have bought a fairly high-mileage 2019 S model and really like it. Very comfortable, and the handling is amazing - a real knee-down machine, so confidence inspiring. My first bike with a quick shifter which I use for up changes, but still do it manually down-shifting. But I have had Ducatis since 1985. Compared to my 999, what do I think? Well, motorwise, I prefer the 999. It has even more torque, more power and is less revvy and probably better on fuel. I assume the 939 is more reliable (though the 999 was perfect for the first 10 years or so - I bought it from new). Also, while the mirrors on the 999 are sited to give you a great view of your elbows, they do work. The ones on the 939 are well-nigh useless and that is annoying. Considering that there is 15 years of development between the two bikes, I'm surprised that the 939 doesn't put out the same horsepower (it's probably about 20 bhp down) or is any more fuel efficient. So while I really like the 939, I already really liked the 999. A pity that some electronic gremlin has kept it off the road for so many years. The 939 is going to be far better 2-up and the OEM luggage is going to make touring a lot of fun.
@@Englishbikerdan They do still look cool and honestly, they are about all the bike you need on the road. The motor sounds a lot less busy than the new motors and it's gruntier. The clocks are a lot nicer than on the 950 - that big analogue tacho is superb. Riding position isn't as forgiving as the 950, but it's never really caused me problems and I've ridden mine from Switzerland to the north of Scotland and back and one day on a different trip did about 1200 kms in a day. It's not like the 916 where you have to be really bendy.
Good afternoon EBD, interesting review! I remember riding the original Supersport when it first came out, and my abiding memories of it are A) extreme engine heat B) mirrors vibrating to the point of being useless and C) poor seat comfort. Note you say comfort seems to be okay, but what about the other two points? Many thanks!
NGL, id rather compare them with the CBR 600 RR than the 650, its quite a lot more visceral than the latter. but the 650R is such a nice all around bike with the ommitance of clip on bars.
I have riden both (rented the S version for a weekend) and ended up buying the regular version, I am sure there is a difference, but personally I think the regular one is pretty good.
@@Englishbikerdan Yes - they would. But some more than others. I run a v-reg zx9r, got it in '17 w/ 18k on it - now got 94k on. It's seen best part of five winters. Wheel paint's shagged, mind you. But my point: Those so-called golden-era bikes are very resilient - mechanically and cosmetically. They survive. Pretty bloody fast, too.
@@Unfunny_Username_389 I've owned a fair few golden era machines too, some did really well over winte (Honda), some not so much (Suzuki). I do feel most modern bikes aren't built quite as well, but I have no technical data to back that up.
@@Englishbikerdan I think one thing that can hamstring a contemporary bike - albeit the more expensive ones - is the electronics. The latest 1250GSA is apparently a bit prone to gadget problems. Which is mad, really - it's actually got a very simple engine and if it was as strong as its rugged looks like to suggest, it should withstand anything. But no. They've overloaded it complex shit nobody wants, and now it keeps breaking down.
@@Unfunny_Username_389 I think some of the issue is that people do want complex stuff on bikes. Take the VStrom for example, bullet proof engine, not too much in terms of tech and everyone either ignores or slates it as being too dated. I'd take that tbh over something with electronics all over it which will, as you point out, inevitably go wrong in a few years time!
HI + thx; what about cruise control? have read that it is not included - thats bad news as is the small fuel capacity. Would a tall rider be cramped on this bike? I wonder what people are doing to make the mirrors more practical - perhaps replacing them? cmon ducati, mirrors are essential safety equipment.
Not hard to change at all. I bought some LED turn signal block offs that plugged and dropped right in. Handlebar mirrors cured the fuzziness completely.
At this price point, I still think it should have the "1200 " motor & cruise control. THAT, would be a PERFECT Ducati for me. After riding a Tuono, this leaves you wanting more. :/
I dont think the RS660 is in the same category and the 950 SS is. The Honda 650 either. It is not that Premium to fit in that owner feeling group to compare plus 4 vrs 2 cylinders. I would say it would be fair to compare it with the V100 Mandello.
I haven't tried this, but I can't imagine this being leaned more over than a CBR 650 R. The SuperSport is probably similar to a Ninja 650 in the seating position.
This bike is nice but it's so close to the Panigale V2 in price it just doesn't make sense. Should've been priced the same or slightly above the RS660!
If at 16°c its cooking in traffic. Then in my country its regularly 38°c avg temp with highs upto 42/44. So only in monsoons and winters can I ride this. Which is bad road conditions and low visibility environment only. Got to have subscription programs for part time ownerships. No way paying a full 15/18 grand for this.
I test road the Honda 650. it bored me to death. has no low end or midrange power and no personality. I bought a 2017 939 Supersport with 2159 km on it and it looks like new, for less then what the new Honda would've cost. and the Ducati just blows it away. I feel like I am riding something special every second I'm on it. and the power delivery is really nice. and the stability and the way it holds lines around sweeping turns is great. and every time I walk up to the bike and look at it I get a feeling from it. The Honda should not be mentioned in the same breath. The only thing I hate about the Ducati is the P position with the key. which locks the handlebars but leaves the break light on. after the first time riding the bike I came back to a bike with a dead battery. and you need to take off the left side of the fairing to take out the battery. but there is a charging port under the seat. so if you have the charger with the right connection to plug it in. you can charge it, and you can also use it to charge the bike if you are not riding it for a long time. like during a winter, I ordered a non Ducati brand charger and I am waiting for it to be delivered. so I have not ridden my new bike for a few days which sucks. and I am hoping the battery will charge ok. otherwise I will be taking off the left fairing. the plus side is the weight of the battery is as low as you can put it on the bottom of the bike.
Where I live buying this bike makes no sense whatsoever coz you can get a Speed Triple 1200rs for the same price! I think in India Ducati got their pricing act horribly wrong for this particular bike.
@@Englishbikerdan it sucks to pay 16-17k usd for a bike with non fuel gauge and see this one for less with one I wonder if the tfd is interchangeable with some hardward reflashing lol

Hey mate great review!!! I have a CBR 650R and I'm very tempted to trade to this bike. I do love the CBR but you do have to thrash it to get the most out of it ha ha.
@@southernbiker4728 awesome🤙 thank you so much for this feedback. I’m getting one👏
@@southernbiker4728 I ended up getting an Aprilia because there are were no Supersports in the country. The Aprilia is pretty amazing!!!
Love you reviews Dan! Well informed, interesting, honest - if you’re not already, become a journalist. One of the best on RUclips. You should gang up with Missenden Flyer. Perfect duo!
Thanks Dan, very kind of you to say so. Not sure I'd want to be a journalist in the traditional sense, but I enjoy riding bikes and sharing that with you fine people.
You can remove the baffles on the rear cans to give it a bit more growl without being overly loud
Nice and informative... I am in Orlando USA and planning to buy this next month. Is 35 to 40 C weather ok for this bike? Thanks for your lovely review.
Did you buy it? How is it in the blazing central Florida summer?
Hahaha that final face in the intro says everything 👍 Nice review.
Haha, thanks Juan. 😁
Hi Dan, great review. Can I ask what video editing platform do you use?
Great review, much appreciated 👍
Always a welcome notification to see a new video up mate.
I've been marathoning them in the night when up with my newborn. 😪
Ah mate, that must be tough on the sleeps! Best wishes to you and your new little family member. :)
@@Englishbikerdan thanks mate, it's been hard but one of each now so I'm done! Ha ha
@Eric E thank you too dude.
What jacket you wearing there Dan? Looks great! I'm about to test ride a SS tomorrow and your video was great research
Sweet ride. Love your reviews.
Any review where your laughing is a good one. Love mine with 5K miles
The 20 year old me would like this bike. These days I'm more interested in the Bee Em R9T
I do love the look of the R9T as well!
Hows the heat management in slow moving traffic? below the seat legs getting toast?
The front headlights just keep getting cooler from ducati
A great review, an awesome machine and a Citroen 2CV Charleston at 4m 07s! What’s not to like 💪
Thanks, I love 2CV's too!
Nice one Dan great video! What a lovely looking machine.
My MZ ts250 has LED indicators now as well, so almost identical 🤣
Haha, yep 99% there! 😁
I have the previous version and it definitely has the adjustable screen. Dont think there's much to choose between looks either. TFT display is definitely better on the 950, though but still has those mirror issues
Just subscribed enjoying the content
Got one of these 2018 model one of the best Bikes I’ve owned added ackropovic slip ons and carbon hugger and fender good alround bike
Thanks Nigel!
Put on a slightly more comfy seat, hard bags and some touring accessories and Ducati are back in the Sport Touring class!
Just to let you know that there’s two different options for the exhausts on the 950 super sport so that gives you 115bhp from the engine
Love your videos, I’m new to bikes only did my cbt in December and was happy on a 125, then I came across your tuono 660 review ended up doing a das course last week in the lovely weather and buying a tuono 660, does make me laugh when you talk about 150hp not being much obviously my tuono is a lot less powerful and that shits me up, but I feel it’s a good first bigger bike even though everyone tells me it will self destruct cus it’s an aprilia, thanks again for the great videos 👌
It depends on until how much HP you have tried, the most powerful bike I have tested is the Duke 1290 and for me it was too powerful, 140-150 is the upper limit for me, but 100hp seems like the sweet spot for me
Great review, love the headlights
Thanks for the content Dan, always informative. I will be spending some time in the south of Spain (Malaga) and wondered what your thoughts are on the super sports suitability to those rolling mountain roads?
On good sweeping roads, it'll be heaven! Enjoy!
I have the bike and I am from Spain, so talking from a 3500KM experience, is very good for that, is very fun on corners
How well done were your jewels after that test ride?
Mildly toasted. 😂
Love the Insta360!
They are very handy!
Hi mate, how do u compare to rs660? Confort and handling wise… cheers and aafe rides
It's been a while since I've ridden the Aprilia, but from memory I'd say the Ducati was a bit more comfortable. Thanks!
the main difference, more than cc, would be the weight. the RS is way lighter and thus handles better.
The Ducati is more comfortable
Nice review Dan. Nice looking bike. I do like Ducati’s but they are pricey and I am more of a naked bike guy rather than a sorts bike but that looks lovely. I think I would choose the CBR650R over that ha ha
Thanks mate, the CBR certainly is a bargain in comparison!
@@Englishbikerdan Yup totally get the point of mounting the camera on the helmet.. too bad we can't have the best of both worlds yet (super stabilized camera footage from the helmet).. thanks for replying!
@@zqs1850 No worries! Cheers! Dan
Nice bike ducati 950s 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Nice but where I live I'd end up on the phone to police/insurance more than actually riding it.
Hey Dan. Great review thanks. Just a quick question, hope it’s ok? What is the brand and model of the jacket you’re wearing in this vid? Much appreciated. Chris.
Hi Chris, if you check out the bottom of the description, it should have a list of all my gear. Thanks! 👍
really great bike but I wish they'd make a new version with like 2 or 3 more liters in the tank
What a machine
Awesome review! Saw your ride near Mytchet, I live nearby!
Yeah, I actually did my CBT in Mytchett back in 2003!
@@Englishbikerdan Awesome! Just completed my A2 and got an r3, considering this bike as I know you can restrict it until you have your full license!
@@GLIDERR It's an expensive first big bike, but doable!
I'd love a 999. They got so much hate when they new but I think they've aged really well. 👍
I own a 950, and the heat is manageable in my opinion. The mirrors however, are beyond useless.
Heat was okay but would be worse in hotter climates than we have. Mirrors were definitely useless. Comfort was great, the biggest surprise. Thanks!
Poor seat comfort? I don´t know if the old one was different but the current seat comfort is very good, way better than a F900XR for instance
NGL, id rather compare them with the CBR 600 RR than the 650, its quite a lot more visceral than the latter.
but the 650R is such a nice all around bike with the ommitance of clip on bars.
3:04 3:09 hi dan, just wonder what video editing platform do you use. It is mint.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro.
29 inch inseam and you can flat foot it? That's...encouraging.
I hear the basic model is just as good on feel. Can anyone back that up?
I've not ridden that one so I can't comment just yet.
I have riden both (rented the S version for a weekend) and ended up buying the regular version, I am sure there is a difference, but personally I think the regular one is pretty good.
Be interesting to see it after a couple of winters.
I think most bikes would suffer with the road salt. I wouldn't want to put it through a winter commute!
Thats so a nice Bike 😍😍😍
Hey seen this great to make my mind up to purchase one w were you said you was 58 iam just 5 foot 7 should be flat footed to or Whats your thoughts
might be a stupid question but would this bike be expensive to maintain?
I don't think it would be terrible due to the high mileage service intervals.
Everytime I see a ducati on for review I'm heavily tempted to make bad financial decisions; I wonder why that is? 🤔
Did they stabilize the mirrors now or still useless because it shakes a lot pass 40mph?
HI + thx; what about cruise control? have read that it is not included - thats bad news as is the small fuel capacity. Would a tall rider be cramped on this bike? I wonder what people are doing to make the mirrors more practical - perhaps replacing them? cmon ducati, mirrors are essential safety equipment.
Wonderful bike. Once you have a Ducati, you are in love........Sal : )
Does this bike have manual shifting or quick shift or both?
Both! 👍
Just how vibey is it when you crack it open? thanks
It's no that bad at all but then some people seem to be sensitive to vibes.
Sell all DIS stock today. Semper Fi!!
does the engine need to do desmo once reach the mileages ?
What’s the difference between this and the Panigale V2?
About 40bhp and say goodbye to comfort! 😂
@@Englishbikerdan which one is more comfy
Did you use 6th gear??why do 30 plus mph in 2nd gear?not surprised your mpg was low.
Blurring mirrors are a disappointment since they would be hard to change with the integrated indicators.
They are are quite bad, though you get used to it
Not hard to change at all.
A V4 Tuono? After that anything will leave you wanting more! 😁
Hi Dan, great review, would you rather go for this or the Aprilia RS660 if price wasn’t an issue?
I'd go for the Supersport personally. Those looks! 😍 Thanks!
I looked at both and bought a supersport. Ride them both and decide for yourself.
I dont think the RS660 is in the same category and the 950 SS is. The Honda 650 either. It is not that Premium to fit in that owner feeling group to compare plus 4 vrs 2 cylinders. I would say it would be fair to compare it with the V100 Mandello.
It would, but that bike didn't exist when I made this video. :)
I have a question. On which bike are you more leaning forward? On the CBR 650 R or on this Supersport?
I haven't tried this, but I can't imagine this being leaned more over than a CBR 650 R. The SuperSport is probably similar to a Ninja 650 in the seating position.
Ok thanks
I have tried both, they are reaaaaaaaally similar on that regard
@@DennisEldrup Not at all, the Ninja 650 is way more upright, Supersport position is very similar if not identical to the CBR650R
@@marcos1669 i just saw a SuperSport today, and yeah you are probably right. Was there with a friend that own a CBR650R, and he agrees.
Such a good looking bike but can't believe on a premium machine they can't even sort wobbly mirrors out.
I'll keep my 95 Monster.....also looks better
Where I live buying this bike makes no sense whatsoever coz you can get a Speed Triple 1200rs for the same price! I think in India Ducati got their pricing act horribly wrong for this particular bike.
You don't buy a Ducati because of the price...
Not the same type of bike, the Speed triple is a naked, this a sport-touring (more on the sporty than the touring side)
Sounds like my electric hedge cutters 😂.... Bad!
Is it possible to remove the softlimiter?
I'm not sure.
I rode a 950S multistrada last weekend. That engine is great..... above 5000rpm. There nothing below that which is odd.
That's my next Ducati for review. Cannot wait!
Wait so this bike has a fuel gauge but the v2 doesn't smh
My bet is the on the V2 you will want to get off before you run out of fuel! :D
@@Englishbikerdan it sucks to pay 16-17k usd for a bike with non fuel gauge and see this one for less with one I wonder if the tfd is interchangeable with some hardward reflashing lol

A little bit on a hot day for sure.
