Yelp review the entire hospital and demonize the entire staff. Dont forget to mention how you wish yelp would give you a 'zero star' option. Keep in mind yelp reviews are like a placebo affect. If you think they matter, then they do. But, if you have any doubts as to whether or not your pissy, tiny, pathetic opinion ACTUALLY means something...well, then your worldviews and the image of your own self worth come crashing down like a tower of cards

I work for a skilled nursing facility and just listen to an ER nurse and doctor judge me (like I personally represent the patient) for a noncompliant patient I sent to the ER due to what I'm sure is septic infection. To the judgey ER nurses out there take this concept into consideration. Some patients are NONCOMPLIANT!! Its not a reflection of their nursing care or caregivers. Just so you know we hate the mess they are too. Our job is to help patients not eat each other alive. Sorry I had a bad day because of another nurse who couldn't see the other side of things.

What you do to non-compliant patients...punch em! Hahaha just kidding! I agree 100% with what you said. Give the same care to everyone. You never know if you'll be that 1 person who gets through to them, but don't sweat it when they aren't compliant. Like you said...patients are going to do what they want regardless!

Non compliant patients make up the bulk of our workload. Almost everyone we take care of are patients who refuse to take care of themselves, (smoking, alcohol and drug abuse, refuse to stop eating and exercise). If these types of patients make you mad, you'll be mad at work all the time. I could fill this page with stories of patients who've refused to take their meds, have certain tests run, and kept leaving the floor to go out and smoke. I simply document that I explained the risks of their behavior and the patient still refused and continued their behavior, and then I move on with my day.

What advice would you give a nursing student who wants to go into Pediatrics?

Love This! Gr8 point about repeating things back/reverse demo. It may take 36 visits before it "clicks" for the pt...Keep doing what you're doing, be supportive, try and educate & explain things in a different way. I absolutely cringe when a nurse uses the term frequent flyer...lose the attitude, smile & show some compassion already.

@NurseMendoza here is another one for you... I'm a nursing student currently going through prerequisites, I an currently a CNA, I also have my phleb tech training along with experience with putting in IV's and administering shots and working at what I honestly feel is the BEST hospital on my island in the Aloha State. How do u deal with a patient that "CLAIMS" U violated they HIPAA rights, knowing you didn't and knowing every key stroke is recorded but is being belligerent. I know I would have to "bite my tongue" but how do handle and deal with the stress of this "POSSIBLE" investigation all because of a patient that doesn't like you and wants to see you fired all because they see you succeed?
